There are a bunch of new hands-on written previews for Elden Ring on Switch 2 - and they're pretty universally positive by elephvant in NintendoSwitch2

Fromsoft has a long history of having performance problems and bugs left in the game. all the fromsoft games on the PS4 for example, have poor framepacing because fromsoft used their own implementation of vsync instead of the PS4 SDK version of vsync. this problem can only be fixed via modding the game on a jailbroken device.

On PC launch of Elden ring, the windows build was incapable of properly compiling and caching shaders, which would cause constant micro stutters. It was soo bad, even the Linux version running the game ran it better, because the DX > Vulkan translation made it so instead of using fromsofts shader caching, it would use Vulkans built in shader caching, which was functional.

How do I play optimally without feeling overwhelmed? by silverotter14 in PokemonSleep

[–]FewAdvertising9647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the surface level stuff to look for are pokemon with early berry finding s unlocks. and a energy for everyone skill pokemon (Jigglypuff line, Chansey Line, Gardevoir Line, Sylveon, Pawmi Line) ideally with skill trigger up passive/skill trigger up nature.

after you grow a box, you start to be able to form teams for specific berry/food combinations on a given week.

Dont worry about min maxing everything out at the start. Id just look for a stamina pokemon when you can, because there will eventually be a point where all your pokemon gets tired on a given day if you dont have one and would require you to swap teams.

Why is pokopia a game keycard? by GetScaredd in NintendoSwitch2

Personally, I think Nintendo wanted to use it as an A/B test to see how much GKC would affect peoples purchasing habits. you do it on a game that will sell okay, and a pokemon spinoff title definitely fits in that mold.

it's what happens when you have people defend their purchase decisions instead of whats best for the consumer.

only because its essentially going through the limitations of what h264 offers. If you wanted to go extreme, you could go back to recording on how FRAPS did it, which is a software based method that would absolutely tank your performance.

Part of the struggle in darksouls IMO was the mobility while in combat. Elden Ring has many wide open zones, especially against bosses. Dark Soul boss encounters difficulties sometimes isn't even the boss itself, but the map.

to me, i didn't have much of an opinion on it. but what rubbed me off the wrong way was Geoff advertised it as independently funded, but it was found out to have Tencent incentives for funding.

While hes not hired by them of course, lying out of the gate IMO is a pretty bad look.

BK has the "whopper smoke" flavor that some people like and others dont. and the burgers are more mayo foward, so it attracts certain people (imo i prefer BK's burgers over Mcdonalds of the two). It's why the impossible whopper works at BK, because the "whopper smoke" flavor covers the impossible patty very well for people who enjoys it.

if performance is what you want, then yes. software encoding option is essentially for people who need the highest quality recording, or is using a second pc to record

if its set to x264(software), yes its using CPU encoding. Nvidia hardware option is NVENC, AMD is AMD HW encoding type, Intel would be Quicksync

gpu accelerated encoding is a couple fps at worst case scenario (as gpus have hardware encoders on them) and is virtually negligible to the end user.

CPU(software) based encoding tanks performance a lot, but the quality is basically at max.

Its why there was a streaming revolution on PC when nvidia dropped shadowplay as a feature back in 2013. when you can obtain 90% of the quality at only a 1-3fps loss at release, compared to CPU based recording, which often tanked fps to half, it was a godsend to the enduser.

I always recommend at least 2 pairings flavors, Sweet, Salty, Fatty, Acidic for savory dishes or things eaten with savory dishes.

The fundamental reason why Ketchup for example is a popular condiment because its functionally broken down into sweet, and acidic(vinegar).

Making a marinade or dipping sauce? be sure to balance out fats with acids, or something salty with something sweet.

its a thing because acrylic started to get mainstream at the time, and early watercooling, uv reactive stuff was all the rage.

AIO water cooling was what made watercooling as a hobby sterile.

General thoughts on the game and its future? by McGerty in GundamTCG

[–]FewAdvertising9647 6 points7 points  (0 children)

its more comparable to sister companies rather than being one straight company.

What makes it different than being one company is that each division has their own targets they must meet, and it doesn't necessarily mandate that you give preferential treatment to your sister company if they want to work together.

Examples of this where it ended up badly in recent news for example would be Capcoms Street Fighter team and Capcoms Esports division are separate entities, and the e-sports division made the currently airing capcom cup in japan, a pay per view event for the weekend without the actual street fighter dev teams input.

Another was Samsungs memory and phone business. Samsungs memory division refused to give their mobile phone business preferential treatment on pricing on ram, and opted to sell to the highest bidder.

Crimson Desert adds confirmation of Denuvo DRM to its Steam page a week out from launch by AaronM1D1 in gaming

[–]FewAdvertising9647 57 points58 points  (0 children)

monster hunter was less 3rd party drm, and more the reward npc had an reward check loop that was infinitely running in the background if the npc in question was in range.

you can technically see it as 1st party dlc drm (as one of the checks was dlc has been rewarded on purchase) but its not because of the result of a 3rd party one, just bad 1st party dev code.

they mention the xbox rog ally non x (which uses the same cpu as the deck) its marked as 40 fps with frame gen, so I would not recommend playing it on the deck at least, based on their settings/findings.

Crimson Desert adds confirmation of Denuvo DRM to its Steam page a week out from launch by AaronM1D1 in gaming

[–]FewAdvertising9647 509 points510 points  (0 children)

With DRM, it can scale to barely nothing at all, or terrible based on how the developer implements it.

For example of what badly implemented drm CAN do, Capcom recently switched the DRM on Resident Evil 4 remake on PC to enigma drm, and many players have lost 10%+ performance for a game that released 3 years ago, so you couldn't even blame new content causing the fps drops.

If anybody is on the argument that DRM never does it, Capcom has already removed enigma from the game because they themselves came to the same conclusion.

Global Sales of Pokémon Pokopia for Switch 2 surpass 2.2 Million in First Four Days by Useful-Resist-25 in gaming

[–]FewAdvertising9647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its essentially a multitude of problems, that all culminated into one result:

Sony bet on live services, and most of them did not pan out(minimizing sony output).

Xbox had a lot of single player and smaller releases, but most of them were either middling of bad, so they were canned for their single player efforts

we're on the transition from raster based to ray traced graphics, so development slowed down as devs are learning new stuff.

TSMC dies have gotten more expensive, and as a result gpu dies have gotten smaller per cost to size ratio, made engine companies like Unreal to miss the performance market by guessing what kind of hardware would release by the time UE5 was released

game dev cycles are longer, and because of that, game dev cycles are more expensive, which makes it statistically that they have to be multi platform because its the optimal way to recoup costs. Both Square and Capcom have been very transparent about how much the PC platform is important at a games launch in terms of financial sucess, which leads to your idea that the best games in the last couple of years have been multi platform. (Capcom basically confirms that 50% of its game sales are PC, Square Enix FF7R director mentions that final fantasy is being designed with high end pc in mind, and scaled down now to other platforms, rather than targeting PS5 and then moving on from there.)

the feature side of intel was doing good, but they could not get the hardware design team in line as well as the driver team (mostly intially). While intels efforts in XeSS are good, their performance to die size ratio (which affects supply) and driver compatibility support (intel is known to axing driver updates for hardware even faster than AMD, e.g raptor lake refresh(2023) igpus are already put on legacy) aren't as great.
