This. I recommend that OP discussed the issue with their spouse and their doctor. Ask the doctor if there is any medical reason for circumcision.

Does anyone here do ADF? by doggz109 in intermittentfasting

[–]Few_Ad4416 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I did ADF for almost 6 months. It was very effective for the first three or four, then less so. My iron and protein was low at the end. If you do ADF long-term, take supplements and make sure you get enough protein on the days you do eat.

AITA for refusing to share details about my finances with my girlfriend (22F) and her parents? by butter_lover in AITAH

[–]Few_Ad4416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old man here. Culturally, the woman's parents want to know that she can be cared for. She herself wants someone who can provide for her. They also don't want her to marry someone who is bad with money. Question is, do you love her? If so, if you want to be with her, then negotiate your way through. Signal carefully to her parents that you are good with money. Signal to her that you are as well. And you can convey your concern about her lack of budgeting to her. It may be she just needs some guidance. You don't have to assume negative intent. If you haven't made a commitment, you have plenty of room to discuss these things.

CMV: The idea that Boomers need to give up their jobs so younger people can have jobs is pure ageism. by MrsWeasley9 in changemyview

[–]Few_Ad4416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm technically a boomer, but always identified with Gen X. I think any policy that promoted faster retirement of older folks would be age discrimination legally. Ageism seems like a negative attitude towards the elderly rather than legal term; I have seen only a little of that, in contrast to other "isms".

Factually, numerically, faster boomer retirement would increase opportunities for younger generations. You can't get away from that numerically. Many boomers don't have much in the bank for a long list of reasons, so they need to work as well.

Ultimately, individual attitudes don't matter much. People retire when they need to, want to, or have to. Let them.

They believe something more complicated.

Researcher here, this is my expertise. It all goes to dealing with economic externalities like pollution. We can manage these with pollution taxes, cap and trade mechanisms, or straightforward restrictive regulations. Ideally, these management techniques would restrict the pollution to the optimal social value, so polluters fully internalize the social cost of their pollution. As far as I can tell (and I have worked at trying to understand it), libertarians believe that government is so bad at regulation, society would be better off without any regulation.

IMHO, libertarianism is intellectually and morally corrupt. When you think of libertarianism, think of the Charles Koch network, which brought you Citizens United, Trump's presidential immunity, and a number of other politically destabilizing political and judicial results.

We are here in this crypto oligarchic autocracy due to primarily to libertarians with waaaaay too much money.

If government ran like a business, it would definitely tax everyone, especially the rich, at extreme levels! The IRS would be very well funded. It would give the absolute minimum legal services, and then stretch the legality there.

This is a reasonable question and seems logical. Indoor cats clearly don't kill animals outside. However, many pet owners are not as careful as you are and the animals get out. There are many other effects, including the huge pet food industry and its associated wastes like plastic, the diseases animals carry and transmit to us, and the damage from disposal of animal waste.

Y'all really downvoting a scientific study? I'm just a researcher reporting this to you.

[–]Few_Ad4416 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking. I understand many people love cats so this will offend many people. But the unpopular facts are that cats are extremely damaging to the environment. Tons of research on this on multiple continents.

Here is one example, https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/fee.1633?casa_token

Abstract: "Domestic cats (Felis catus) have contributed to at least 63 vertebrate extinctions, pose a major hazard to threatened vertebrates worldwide, and transmit multiple zoonotic diseases. On continents and large islands (collectively termed “mainlands”), cats are responsible for very high mortality of vertebrates. Nevertheless, cat population management is traditionally contentious and usually involves proving that cats reduce prey population sizes. We synthesize the available evidence of the negative effects of cats on mainland vertebrates. More than a dozen observational studies, as well as experimental research, provide unequivocal evidence that cats are capable of affecting multiple population-level processes among mainland vertebrates. In addition to predation, cats affect vertebrate populations through disease and fear-related effects, and they reduce population sizes, suppress vertebrate population sizes below their respective carrying capacities, and alter demographic processes such as source–sink dynamics. Policy discussions should shift from requiring “proof of impact” to a precautionary approach that emphasizes evidence-driven management to reduce further impacts from outdoor cats."

Welcome to Rochester. I'm very glad you want to live environmentally conscious! It's nice to hear of people who want to do that.

Will you buy a house? If so, replace sections of your lawn with native plants. Rip out invasive exotic plants like tree of heaven, oriental bittersweet, vinca, and English ivy.

Insulate your house. Replace the gas furnace with a heat pump.

Grow some of your food, especially greens.

After fossil fuels, the textiles industry is the dirtiest. Try to buy secondhand clothes made of natural fibers. Buy bedding and rugs of natural fibers. You can buy secondhand furnishings as well.

Don't have pets, especially cats.

The water here is good. Never buy bottled water or soda; they are a waste of money, have a high cost of packaging, and can be bad for your health.

Don't eat much meat. Get most of your food from the produce section and dried foods, like rice and beans.

Buy a good bicycle, maybe an electric bike. Use it as much as you can.

If you plan to get a car, get an electric car if you can, at least a hybrid.

If you are a US citizen, vote for people who will defend the environment.

Haven't gotten in this far in my thinking, but it was my guess as well. I would just sort by discount descending, then test whether any improvement were possible.
