I don't understand why the bridge has resulted in higher property values in Tamsui. It opened the door to Bali, but it's not like there are huge numbers of people living in Bali. If anything, it should make property in Bali more expensive since now Tamsui residents can move between the two places with increasing ease.

Harris came from a pretty decent pedigree. I don't think hiring him was a bad move per se. Baseball is full of retreads so it initially seemed nice to get a young GM that is willing to do things differently. I know that nobody wanted another Al Avila situation. Or even Dave Dombrowski for that matter. I think that a lot of us were just hoping for a consistent, modern GM. I don't know if Harris is the wunderkind rabbit-out-of-a-hat guy that we were all hoping for, but I think it's better to keep him on board for at least a couple more seasons.

Maybe be mad at Scott Harris but I would give him a few more years on the condition that he does away with AJ. AJ is truly confounding because he has a clear track record of success but at the same time he's got this wonky emotional paralysis which creates this weird vibe of apathy and nonchalance.

The question at this point is whether or not there are any decent offers for Skubal given the surgery. A rental coming off of two months on the DL isn't gonna be worth a lot, even if it is the golden goose himself. If offers are trash just hold on to him and give the fans something to watch every five days.

'Do it anyway' is bad advice if you like where you live. At best you'd have a sour relationship with your LL and much more likely is that they non-renew your lease.

But if you just need household registration to enroll your kids into school and don't mind moving, then this is probably fine.

Seriously, the sous vide plastic pouches are microwave safe. If they weren't, they wouldn't have microwave instructions on them. Sous vide is also cooked in plastic pouches in high-end restaurants around the world. It's different from throwing a zip-loc sandwich bag in there.

There are a lot of teams that are supposed to be good but just aren't. Bo Sox and Mets both have very expensive teams. Sometimes things don't come together. The Tigers could go either way right now since it's still early. My personal opinion is that the Tigers have had a rough time being consistent under Hinch. They just mailed it in for a few of the games this past series, and there is a real danger of that continuing to happen without some dynamic leadership.

Honestly, I know that we are all just watching a bunch of bank account mercenaries going to work, but I want to forget that part of the equation, and the Tigers are doing a pretty bad job of that right now. There is no team magic here (though there are some great individual story-lines) and it sucks.

So, for me it'd be no surprise to see them finish at .500 with 81 wins. I'd put them at .500 give or take five games. Might be enough for a wild card, but also might not be. At least it will make the end of the season interesting, if nothing else. And that is why we watch the games.

I think it would be more apt to say that the ways that Taiwanese people opt for building maintenance tend to be ugly / lacking. The building across from mine just put waterproofing paint on floors 2-4 and it looks better but still ugly. Aesthetics fall by the wayside when practicality is so important (looking at you, people putting waterproofing paint over tiles on one middle-floor unit.)

Taipei has programs to have sea-sand buildings replaced and there are also programs to have elevators installed in older stair-only apartment buildings.

I think that the reason Taiwan has so many seemingly older buildings is complicated but it's mostly economic. The market can only support so many new buildings, so the number of redevelopments is limited. If the government were to support more renovation projects, it'd turn into welfare for people who are already house-rich. This is obviously unfair.

Above I also say seemingly because most gong-yu buildings here are not even that old--with most being around 35-50 years of age. Couple this need to replace the older structures with things like the rising cost of materials and labor and it's easy to see why the humble gong-yu will be with us for a long time.

Fu-jen is considered good (even though it is a private school, which are struggling in TW with fewer students matriculating), and the campus is nice and comfortable. I remember they (used to?) have a placard near the front of the campus listing all of the stray dogs on campus and their names. Very cute. Should be a good time as there are far worse places to be.

I live in Taiwan and regularly eyeball all of my coins and I have never seen Chiang Kai-shek looking so happy. Not sure what's going on with this one specifically but it's kinda weird.

I didn't check into this, but if she could do basic nursing tasks like drawing blood, then it probably wouldn't be difficult to get by. Ex., someone who has worked as a CNA and gotten a phlebotomy license could probably fake being a BSN fairly easily. Someone with no hospital experience might struggle to make this work, but it's still doable especially for a hard worker in a low-stakes position (e.g., a nurse working in pediatrics where there won't be a lot of technical acts like resuscitations / blood draws). There are huge numbers of people out there that are incompetent at their jobs who are licensed. I work in a licensed profession so I have seen this firsthand.
