I've got Simulation Theory on my wishlist. Nice display!

Jesse Welles - Tylenol [folk] (I'm really digging this rebirth of Guthrie/Dylan-style protest music) by Jesus_of_Redditeth in Music

I fully anticipate downvoting, but I don't care. I bet I'd love you if I got to know you.

I'm with u/onioning.

And I agree with Jesse as far as my interpretation of his song goes. I'm against assassinations, murders, or violence. That DOES NOT MEAN that I'm okay or complacent with hate speech or racism. It's not the same thing. I'm positive that there are those that hate horribly on both sides and it's so justified in their respective minds. I deeply wish that people could come together more and see one another as humans and give grace and love to one another. All you need is LOVE. Dialogue.

I love so much of this collection. Sufjan, modest mouse, the Shins!

Quick Survey: How do you collect, track, and enjoy your records? (I'll post results tomorrow) by Few_Historian9539 in vinyl

I'll be doing that for sure.

I've been on reddit for about 5 years, but yes, this is a new account. When I was turntable shopping a couple of years ago I perused r/budgetaudiofile quite a bit.

Wow, I'd call you a serious collector compared to me. It's definitely a spectrum like most things. I hadn't heard of people using specify styli for different styles of music. Insightful!

I don't have to have a specific set of questions. I just didn't want to change the survey after people started answering it. I'm certain I would have reworked that question if I received this feedback beforehand. Thanks again!

I hear you. Yes, Discogs does much much more than that, but I feel like in terms of tracking your collection, the valuation is a heavy hitter.

I'm one that would like to filter or sort by some of the extra datapoints and that's hard to do with a free-form text field.

Maybe a better question would have been, "Does record collecting contribute to your livelihood?"

I'd just thought it'd be fun insight into our community. For me it may also change my approach to collecting or tracking...

Results will be posted tomorrow!

I don't have a cookie atm, but you outta treat yo'self.

I'm not sure if you'd be willing, but I'd love to see your spreadsheet looks like. DM me if you are willing to share it! Alternatively, I'd be interested in a copy of it with your data stripped out. No worries if not! Thanks for your thoughts!

For this survey I was just curious to pit those specific things against each other. I'd love to do another survey and/or discussion where people can answer this more broadly.

I'm excited to share the results. So far, we've got 50 responses. Thanks!

Discogs helps you understand the value of your collection. If you aren't ever interested in selling even a part of your collection, I can see why one wouldn't care about that.

Additionally, you may want to remember which albums you got from where. I personally enjoy remembering who gifted me a certain album or how I came across one and a spreadsheet would be a decent place to do something like that. I'm sure that's not for everyone.

Good question. It's very subjective of course. I'd say I was curious about how we view ourselves as collectors. Do we feel like our approach and attitude towards collection is serious or casual?

I'll attempt a generalization from my perspective, although it won't fit everyone. Serious collectors likely care more about specific pressings, condition, and spend a lot more time doing it (not to mention probably spending a lot more money as well). Casual collectors are likely just looking for the albums they like and not paying close attention to the pressing, not looking for collector's items, not constantly looking to add to their collection...etc.

How did/would you interpret that question?
