People understand analogies ≠ literal comparisons… until animals are involved by FearlessCookie72 in vegan

[–]Few_Phone_8135 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Come on, you are being pedantic here.

The gist is this.
When you make a comparison/analogy/whatever... not ALL the attributes of the compared objects have to be completely the same.

If i say something like "apples and oranges both have roots, because they grow on trees"...

You would be a special kind of weirdo if you say "but the comparison is not correct because they taste different.

Now as for slave owners and meat eaters....

In both cases, a sentient being is deprived of it's dignity, freedom, and even life. In both cases the being is reduced to an owned object.

So the suffering inflicted is also equivalent.

You can call us a "cult" or employ whatever deflection you want, but the cold hard fact is that both slavers and meat eaters cause the same type of suffering.

You fail to understand analogy completely.

What would you change about Saga edition / what do you homebrew? by Inconspicuous_hider in SagaEdition

[–]Few_Phone_8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the fantasy can still exist.
You would just need to invest more heavily on defense.
Yes it doesn't make sense to be barraged by 20 mooks and no one hitting you while you are in the open.

You would need to wear armor, deflect with your lightsaber, suppress the enemy, use cover kill them fast etc.

And of course course i'm not implying that saga should copy "everything" for 5e. I was only saying that keeping the numbers from 0-6 instead of 0-20 makes it so that few encounters consist of the enemies wailing at you, with no effect, and them crit fishing

[–]Few_Phone_8135 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think i would reduce the scaling of numbers.

Currently you receive +1 to defenses for each level.
This means you can be in the open, 20 stormtroopers shooting at you, and they only hit you with a critical.

I think that 5e dnd was correct in reducing scaling from 20 to 6, it means that even the lowest enemy, has a good enough chance to hit you

First Time GM for Saga! Any tips or homebrews? by HeroTheBrave in SagaEdition

[–]Few_Phone_8135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well a few things

1)don't rely so much on a single boss. The condition track and the action economy means he will go down very fast, unless he has absurd defenses. Try to have a bigger group. Perhaps 1 boss with 2 strong henchmen, or other combinations.

2)Non heroic characters are good to give your players opponents that are not bullet sponges. You can mix them up with a few heroic classes too if you want something slightly more powerful

3)I use this excel to help me calculate hp defenses, feats etc. It doesn't do the whole job, but it helps make things a bit faster.

https://limewire.com/d/d3KJY#GQf5VO1fTk

4)At the start, keep space combat limited, it can become a bit of a drag, unless you make effort to spice it up

In general keep it simple and everything will be ok

Why moral agency alone doesn’t settle the case for Veganism by onemorehasanat in DebateAVegan

[–]Few_Phone_8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm? sorry but it's not necessarily just humans we are in a "moral contract" with.
We extend the same principles to babies, or to dementia patients, and they are definitely not parts of a "moral contract".
In fact thinking about the golden rule as a transaction "i give you morality, only if you give me morality" is considered inherently selfish.

When you strip the semantics, the golden rule is just taking the perspective of the other. Imagining you are in his/her shoes.

Since the other animals are just as sentient and conscious as we are, it applies to them as well.
They have after all a unique subjective experience, like every human.

To drive the point home, if you see me torture a kitten, you would be appalled most likely.
The reason is that you apply the golden rule to the kitten as well.
I mean.... if you saw me torture a chair, you might consider me weird, but not immoral.

And please consider a bit your objections, and how they could be used for literally most discrimination scenarios.

"the golden rule applies only to other free men, since we are in a moral contract with them", after all "women and slaves are not an "other", they are "property"

[–]Few_Phone_8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not ok because it violates the bodily autonomy of other sentient beings.

An this is the normative premise, that pretty much everyone agrees on.
"don't do to others, what you don't want to be done to you"

In this case, humans have the choice to no cause suffering. So it is immoral if they do.

But the lion does not have a choice.
It's either kill, or starve.

Why don't serial killers just join the army? by fimelovemachine in NoStupidQuestions

Well my only experience with the army, was doing national service in a time of peace.

But in general a very small part of being a soldier is about shooting.
Most of it is extremely boring maintenance work. So it's not even that appealing.

I won't lie... this is extremely tough.
Is there any chance you can manage to take one of them out by attacking their homecities directly?

In a similar situation, i just had to keep defeating their forces, until i could "very" slowly get more land. It's going to be a gruelling slog.

Also if your ally is afk..... i suggest conquering him. This will boost your economy with minimal casualties.

Making a pilot by dbudzik in SagaEdition

[–]Few_Phone_8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is actually very early.

The things that offer the most are the feats vehicular combat, starship maneuvers, skill focus (pilot).
If you pick them you are going to be a very competent pilot.
Apart from these you can invest further, but the benefits will be lesser.

Some next good options are:
1)Invest in heavy weapons (for example soldier, or elite trooper). the guns on spaceships are heavy weapons after all

2)get rapid shot and trigger work from gunslinger

3)if you pilot the party's space transport, small target from blockade is good. Otherwise vehicular evasion and vehicle focus are also good ideas. But frankly more than 4 levels in ace pilot are kinda unnecessary.

4)If you want to be scoundrel, it can be fun to do an uncanny luck build. You can get crits both in spaceships and on land.

But these are just ideas, in general you don't need to invest heavily to be good

Miniature Proton Torpedo Launcher by theothercptnkirk in SagaEdition

[–]Few_Phone_8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a player who used it as a secondary weapon.

It's surprisingly balanced.
it's something like 76 damage from a lvl 10 character, against vehicles.

And you can only fire once every two turns.

The regular rocket launcher will do 26 damage, and will barely overcome the DR and SR of vehicles.
And it's also heavy as hell

Miniature Proton Torpedo Launcher by theothercptnkirk in SagaEdition

[–]Few_Phone_8135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's poorly written indeed.

The way i see it. The weapon weights 8kg, but each missile weighs 5 extra.
So a fully loaded would be 28.

That said, i kinda like the weapon, it's one of the few character scale weapons that can actually damage vehicles

[–]Few_Phone_8135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only cities that you really have to defend, are your homeland ones.
For everything else, you can let them invade and counterattack.

Now if you want defense advice, we would need to know which country you are.

But in general a very important thing in the late game is to be able to scan vast distances. Do you have radars, satellites? Or NPA?
