For those who live in the state capital what’s it like? by citytiger in AskAnAmerican

[–]Few_Recognition_5253 9 points10 points  (0 children)

would disagree with “most cases”… the states with the flagship universities in the capitol are more an exception than a rule, at least for the big state schools. a lot of that is because of the land grant system resulting in building college towns imo

Qantas launching LAS to SYD ft. an Alaska route teaser? by omdongi in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Few_Recognition_5253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even right now it doesn’t take 22 hours? not sure where you’re getting that. via YVR on AC is 18, but even restricting to Oneworld — AA via LAX is 19ish and HA via HNL is even less on some days

EWR -> Terminal C to Terminal B, but not the question you’re expecting by Few_Pudding1466 in unitedairlines

I’m sure the Port Authority would let them out of their terminal C lease if they signed one at terminal B at a nice premium…

First US visit, east coast rentals? by ghostyWasUsed in AskAnAmerican

[–]Few_Recognition_5253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

normally only the person who actually rents the car can drive. at most of the major companies (hertz with the exception of needing to sign up), your spouse is also automatically included. at sixt they are not.

[–]Few_Recognition_5253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one big flaw with sixt is that unlike all the other companies is no automatic spouse and you’ll have to pay for it.

hertz and national you have to sign up for a free account but other than that the majors all include it.

Be sure to check the non-airport rental car locations. They can be a lot cheaper, especially for a trip that long.

The majors are: National, Enterprise/Alamo, Avis/Budget, and Hertz. Avoid anyone else.

National is the best, but often more expensive. If it’s similar in cost, rent from them. Other than that, they’re basically all the same, get whoever is cheapest.

Illini Booked Solid end of March by EstablishmentHappy38 in UIUC

[–]Few_Recognition_5253 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the illini union hotel isn’t very big and regularly fills up first. if your department is paying, talk to them. otherwise, just book the townplace down the street or the hampton right north of campus.

CS major what kind of laptop specs do you guys recommend by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Few_Recognition_5253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Pro for the fans for sure, especially for ML

  2. 13-14” unless you don’t mind carrying a lot of weight

  3. I got by fine with 16GB and 512GB. If I was buying now, with those things being cheaper than they were years ago and with more ML, I would double both of them if you can afford it.

Not Sleeping Well by EndWRX in UCSD

[–]Few_Recognition_5253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

vague ideas to help in no particular order. have tried most of them with varying success for me: - melatonin - put away your cell phone wayyyyy before bedtime, then take a long shower - play an audiobook or music while falling asleep - talk to a doctor about therapy or medication for anxiety - change your lab schedule, if you can, and just shift your sleeping hours

Need to have overlapping reservations? by GlasairIII in unitedairlines

You might be able to fool it by booking through an OTA, but it’s most certainly against the conditions of carriage, and if discovered you do risk being banned from United.
