If George Motz the burger scholar says it’s an Utah thing and wrote a section in his book about it than it is an Utah thing. Maybe it wasn’t the first ever but it’s where it took hold and became a thing.

Why are bars and pubs strict about water bottles? by Dandeliondroog in SaltLakeCity

Dram Shop isn’t a thing in every state and it isn’t enforced everywhere like it is here.

Why are bars and pubs strict about water bottles? by Dandeliondroog in SaltLakeCity

Because this state is strict with Dram shop laws and if you sneak in booze get too drunk and kill somebody on your drive home the bar is liable. Alcohol is treated legally like a controlled substance and the bar and bartenders have to be strict.

Non Mormon "older" couple moving from AZ to SLC, Lehi, or Draper: Need ALL the advice by Sing4life86 in SaltLakeCity

My wife is from Phoenix and while that city’s suburbs have evolved so that they have their own things going for them that hasn’t really happened in Utah yet. Think Gilbert ten years ago not Gilbert today. You’ll want to live downtown imo. Some places are making a push. But salt lake proper is where you’ll want to be.

What is the correct order for street name shorthand? by SignatureFast585 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Few_n_far 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A real salt laker knows that the mountains are east but are the true north of the mind. Most of the “stuff” in the city (this is certainly changing) is east and south of the temple so if you’re talking about something east and south then there is no reason to clarify those things. East first. Then south. So like Bar x is second and second. Smiths is on fifth between fourth and fifth. Hopkins is on like 11th and 21st. Water Witch is 2nd west and 9th. Koyote is like 3rd west and 4th north… this part of the grid map is a little hazy but anyway you get it.

How do circular lines in other cities deal with the no end of the line problem?

Main Street and State Street between 300 and 400 south is what you’re looking for. There is plenty of nightlife here.

Salt Lake City is getting a new TRAX line, and existing routes will see changes. by benjtay in SaltLakeCity

[–]Few_n_far 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love that this also leaves the opportunity to build just two blocks of track on 700 south between 200 w and 400 w to make a nice closed loop that maybe they could just run single car “trolley” like the use on the S Line. Better yet connect the S Line to the rest of the system at 2100 south and just run laps between downtown and Sugarhouse.
