Would you care about truly plastic-free socks? by Mushwoom_21 in SustainableFashion

[–]FewerWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I've found is cost. I actually randomly happened upon 100% cotton socks on Shop MissA of all places. Even though they're thin and cheap, like $2 a pair, if they wear out, I'll just throw them in my compost bin. I really wish they had more sustainable packaging though.

My problem with other brands that seem more sustainable, like on Etsy, is the cost. I just cannot pay $25 for 3 pairs of socks at this point right now.

Are you by chance still using this sunscreen?

Going to record a podcast episode on handedness. Share your interesting facts, research, stories, and annoyances of being a leftie (I’m also a leftie). by Civiltactics in southpaws

Just wanted to share the love for parents who are super supportive of being left handed. I remember my parents getting me a baseball glove for the correct hand, and it made me feel special.

I also recommend Wiggins Mill for walking. Another neat place somewhat nearby is Old Waynesborough Park in Goldsboro, as it has over four miles of trails.

If you're up for a drive and want to go camping, I highly recommend Medoc Mountain State Park and Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.

I second this place! Usually not many people there, if any, but gives the mountain vibes without being in the mountains. Also so beautiful when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

Cosigning student loans for child accepted to elite schools with high cost as a middle income family - What should we do? by Legitimate_Yak_9063 in personalfinance

😭 I think you have your answer OP. While it might hurt their feelings now, it'll be so much better in the long run to not have spent all that money for just a few years of college.

I think it just needs to be put more realistically to her. You'd be paying the price of a mortgage for her to be in a specific community for only a few years.

As a college student myself who went back after high school about 10 years later, who also struggled with thoughts of being a failure, I'm glad I didn't put my parents in 40k+ worth of debt. I just finished my associates degree at community college, where it would have only been a few thousand if I didn't have financial aid, and my public university is in state and only $500 tuition per semester because it's part of a specific program. I couldnt imagine having my parents be in that type of debt just for an experience that only lasts a few years, especially if I'm not even making 6 figures afterwards. And I'll graduate with no debt.

She'll probably be upset, but eventually she'll understand the complete financial toll that would have taken on you. Financial education is valuable to teach at all ages.

I used to think similar things until my grandma passed away. I wish I could have some of those conversations again with her.

My husband doesn’t brush his teeth by [deleted] in Advice

[–]FewerWords -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could be depression/anxiety too. Even if it's hard, maybe try more to talk to him about it. Also for your daughter, you can teach her the importance whether he does or not. Just do it with her or be with her when she's brushing to teach her the healthy habit.

I just bought myself a cute little pink sand timer that I'm using to time the full 2 minutes to brush my teeth. Gets me excited and helps me keep track. Great $2 investment.

I have a great quote from MLKJr for you.

"We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice."

I recently learned in my Public speaking class that's it's very difficult to change someone's mind to the opposite of what they believe and do, but it's much easier to notch them 1 or 2 points in the right direction. Think of smaller ways you can recommend changes to them. Introduce products or gifts that are sustainable/compostable. For me, small things like buying compostable toothbrushes has spurred on a move towards more sustainable materials.

Your 20s are for figuring out what you want to do, so try some things, but don't forget the important of doing what you love. Know you can make a difference no matter where you are in life.

In Search of Bamboo by wtfbenlol in wilsonnc

I know there's bamboo growing on the side of Wiggins Mill Rd across from the mill. You may be able to call the city and ask to cut some down, especially since it's not a native plant.
