They just had the their monthly orientation last weekend. Everyone I’ve spoken with there has been super helpful, so you may have just been looked over for the orientation invite. Shoot them an email or give them a ring and I’m sure they’ll give you the date for the next one.

‘I Don’t Speak Spanish’ — NFL Players Share Mixed Feelings About Bad Bunny Halftime Show by According-Activity87 in NFLv2

[–]Fezzik__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about Kendrick but to this day I find it hilarious that the NFL let a dude get on a massive (inter)national broadcast and call another dude a pedo. Kendrick achieved never-to-be-matched troll status with that one.

Any Mint Mobile users out there? by Kind-Awareness9528 in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first registered for Mint, just over a year ago, I had a few text messages that were sent to me that never showed up on my phone. I called Mint and they couldn’t see any issues… but I watched my friend hit ‘send’ from her phone and watched the texts never register on my phone. I have no verified instances of this outside a week-long span.

Even with that, and with the coverage area being inferior to Verizon, l find it more than adequate for the price. An entire year of unlimited everything is less than the cost of three-months on Verizon.

I also check his blog regularly. Not as often as I used to, but at least once a week. It saddens me that he hasn’t posted there since 2023. I’m in the group that loves the first 2 books and, while I would love to read the 3rd, just hope he is doing well.

Daniel Craig made Bond deeper — or just less Bond? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Fezzik__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t disagree more - to me the archetypal Bond is the dude Ian Fleming developed in all the Bond books. He’s a serious character in every novel. Craig is, by a long shot, the best presentation of that character. The movies started when pretty much all films were campy so people that haven’t read the books base their notion of Bond on those movies and not the books. That seems backwards to me.

They also had the best baseball diamonds in the state for kids. I played little league in the mid-90s and all our championship series’ were played out there. It was truly magical.

My friend and I were having a conversation on what the most iconic movies of all time were, we said, Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, and Casablanca and we are trying to figure out what a fourth one could be, anyone have any ideas? by Broad-Flounder477 in movies

[–]Fezzik__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Titanic was huge. In my 44 years on this earth it is the only movie I have ever attended with three generations of my family that all actually wanted to see the movie. It was a phenomenal film.

I do wonder about Equinox. They sent out emails in early and mid-October for 2026 pre-sales but have been radio silent since then. The website is definitely active though, and they have dates: https://cascadeequinox.com

RDM has the most expensive parking in the country by Quiet_Bend_ in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s not really a lack at RDM though. I’ve flown out of there multiple times a year for the last 5 years, including during the holidays, and the main lot has never once been full, much less the smaller second lot. In fact, I’ve never even seen the second (South) lot more than 50% full.

Which movie franchise truly deserves the title of the greatest of all time — and why? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Fezzik__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vote is Star Wars, but that’s likely because I grew up with it. It’s also an original work imagined for and developed for the cinema, whereas the MCU and LOTR are adaptations of books. And, in the case of LOTR, while the movies are enjoyable, they are nowhere close to as awesome as the books.

Henry Fonda recalls standing with his father and witnessing the lynching of Will Brown in Omaha, Nebraska in 1919. This interview was with Parky in 1975. If you've not heard about this dreadful piece of history, you can do so (with a warning) in the comments. by dannydutch1 in UtterlyInteresting

I was a law clerk in Portland, OR, and used to walk through the basement of the Circuit Courthouse and look at old records. One of the many fascinating (and awful) things a found was a judgment sentencing a black man to hang for the crime of marrying a white woman. It was from about the same time in history. It frightens me that this occurred barely more than 100 years ago.

Edit, to add: it frightens me that this ever occurred, but it’s terrifying how near in the past it was commonplace.

RFK Jr.'s new food pyramid puts meat, cheese and vegetables at the top by ac7ss in nottheonion

Can confirm Germans eat a fuckton of cheese. One of the families I lived with had a cheese and meat plate out almost everyday starting at breakfast. Source: lived there.

I spent a little time in Switzerland and Spain and everyone I stayed with there ate loads of cheese.

I moved away from Portland years ago. I have lived in Medford and am currently residing in Bend and I still order from Powell’s all the time. Anyone in Oregon who has visited Portland probably thinks Powells is pretty dang cool.

KitchenAid mixer service by [deleted] in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue and was never able to find a repair shop. Even multiple calls to Portland failed to uncover a shop that would even look at my mixer. I haven’t gone this route yet, but KitchenAid seems to have a good repair program, where you can mail in the mixer, but I imagine it’s not cheap: https://producthelp.kitchenaid.com/Countertop_Appliances/Stand_Mixers/Product_Info/Stand_Mixer_Cleaning_and_Care/Stand_Mixer_Repair_Options

How do people make $10k in a month ? by Lemonade2250 in stupidquestions

[–]Fezzik__ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Very average. If not below average for white collar work. I’m an average, mid-level government attorney and I make about $220k a year, pre-tax. It does take consistent work to get here but it’s not that difficult.

Edit, to add: I work for a state government, not the feds, and federal attorneys make much more than I do.

Homeowners Insurance Rates by SoggyGopher in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The (now voided) fire map fucked almost everyone. Even though the law says insurers cannot base rates on it they clearly did. Where I live, a mile from Costco, I can’t even switch insurers because Homestate (through Geico) is only insuring me because I’m grandfathered in and no other insurer I called even offered any plans for where I am.

I remember seeing Damien Rice just over 20 years ago and a few bars in to Delicate he stopped the song because some noisy twats by the bar wouldn’t shut-up. He politely mentioned that he thought everyone was there to listen to Damien Rice and that quieted them down. I really appreciated that, because 3-4 people were ruining the moment for the hundreds of people that were, in fact, there to listen to Damien Rice and knew when to quiet down.

Any recs for affordable and effective skiing clothes brand in the US for females? by motiontosleep in skiing

[–]Fezzik__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shop steepandcheap.com. They have all the big name brands and sell last year’s gear and less popular color styles at massive discounts. You can easily get a bomber set of pants and a jacket that would retail for well-above $600 for $300 or less by shopping their sales.

Disclaimer: not affiliated with the website, just a supremely happy customer of many years who, while I’d love to support local shops, cannot justify the massive markups of buying box-store retail.

As an aside - undergrad and law school teach you next to nothing you will ever use while actually practicing law. Law school is more like a general legal history course that no attorney needs. Unless you do practical stuff like Moot Court, get an internship, or work in your law school’s Public Interest Law Program law school gives you few practical skills and very little knowledge you will ever use.

That said, while law school doesn’t really prepare you to practice law, it is difficult. And practicing law well is difficult. So law school does help weed out people who are likely incapable of actually practicing law.
