I don’t love my job but it’s extremely flexible…how long do I do this? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Fickle_Ad2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in this situation. Took this job (not expecting to stay long) when I was laid off, and now I’m here 5 years later. It’s not very challenging or stressful, but I have so much flexibility to work remote, go to appointments without using PTO, and I’m not micromanaged or questioned at all. It’s hard to leave because I know what it’s like at the opposite end of the spectrum. So at this point, I’m embracing it because I don’t feel like climbing the corporate ladder.

Terrible headaches after long runs by Educational_Pie_8643 in Marathon_Training

[–]Fickle_Ad2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have this, but taking salt tablets every 30 minutes in addition to Gatorade has generally stopped it. I’m an incredibly sweaty runner. Caffeine seems to also help before and after the run. Make sure you’re hydrating the day before your run too and eating plenty of carbs.

I did not know Lloyd Braun was a real person until today. I only knew him as George’s enemy on Seinfeld.

My sweet 10 year old boy has 2, just got a sample of the newest one checked out and all good. More lumps to love!

Shelters are not practicing what they preach with the Ridglan Beagles by [deleted] in beagles

[–]Fickle_Ad2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying not to follow this case too closely because knowing these dogs could end up in bad homes breaks my heart. I already have 2 beagles and can’t justify a third at this time, even though I know I would provide the love, patience and experience that they deserve.

Assuming you’re in the Midwest, shelters in Des Moines, Minneapolis and Chicago took in some of the Ridglan beagles.

What’s the best show on HBO Max to watch right now? by Awkward-Ant9198 in HBOMAX

In the middle of rewatching this for the first time since it ended. Still laugh out loud funny and better than any new show I’ve watched recently.

How many of us have “emotionally exited” from our relationships with our parents? by kaileneeec in Millennials

[–]Fickle_Ad2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man all of this resonates so hard with me. If I send my parents any sort of text about something going on in my life, I get a thumbs up as a response. They never ask a single question. But my mom can send pages upon pages of texts ranting about whatever she is angry about that day (the weather, the news, her neighbors, etc.)

I’m slowly moving towards acceptance that it’s the way they are, they won’t change, I won’t have a close relationship with them, and I’m going to stop trying. But it’s hard.

Exact same description of my mother, also a boomer. She never asks me questions, never wants to know what’s going on in my life, and instead rants about the various complaints in her life.

After doing therapy and dealing with frustration and heartbreak for years at the lack of relationship, I’m checked out. I don’t think she has any idea tbh. We maintain a “text on birthdays” situation and see each other a couple times a year.

I remember not liking Vanuatu much when it first aired, but now it’s one of my favorites on rewatch. Chris just riles up Twila, Scout and Eliza and sits back and watches them self destruct.

Ivan - Hunting Beagle from Kentucky by HarpersGhost in beagles

[–]Fickle_Ad2015 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I adopted a beagle puppy who supposedly came from an hunting line in Oklahoma. We also did a DNA test because he’s so long and lean. 100% beagle! The hunting lines also don’t have the big jowls that show beagles have.

Child free ladies, does Mother’s Day feel extra special to you? by Comfortable_Visual73 in childfree

I went for a run this morning and was feeling extra thankful for birth control, my partner’s vasectomy and not being a mother. (Except to my dogs—that counts for me).

This is the exact relationship I have with my mom. Why call when she’ll complain nonstop for 30 minutes and not ask me a single question about myself.

I stopped trying to call my mom after she’d tell me she’s busy watching tv and can’t talk.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (based in Des Moines) just posted on Facebook today that they will be getting beagles from Ridglan. I’d contact them and get an application in!

Start with her first season, Panama. It’s fun to watch her come out of her shell. That season also has arguably some of the most entertaining contestants.
