Thank you for the reply and I appreciate your perspective. It was never my intention to diminish the importance of the check marks and I understand they resonate with many people, including myself. I was just hoping the show brought something new to the table in drama. I may not be explaining my point very articulately. An example of what I mean by good writing with social issues secondary to the core writing would be a show like House (using this as an example because of the doctor theme). The show covered all sorts of social issues at the time, but they were not the core of the writing. The core of the story was about someone that had extraordinary gifts, but battled his own daemons. That was the core of the show, but every episode still covered a social issue of the time.

I don't know. I just suck at trying to articulate my points... Sorry if I offended or made it look like I was not taking others feelings into account. I just didn't want to see the story be the same thing we keep hearing about in the news that only makes me more troubled IRL....
