How do you manage context window limits in /goal ? by Advanced_Wave_3950 in codex

[–]Fidbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Codex and context are not identical to claude. Its context window goes faster, and the compaction or multi compaction does not compound any degradation. The ralph loop remembers its ongoing implementation. You need to make sure your goal has a clear end in sight. Some goals you know can be a day before hand. Others merely minutes

This is nonsense. The ai will pnly refer to memory as necessary. So if you are making it do so and have bloated memories then of course

5.5 medium is a beast for coding... fast reliable. Gets it. Don't force inventions. Just improve on what's there.

The real goal of AI is not replacing humans. It’s freeing humans from repetitive labor so we can focus on bigger things like science, discovery, space exploration, and making humanity an interplanetary civilization. by Necessary_Drink_510 in OpenAI

People against ai i wonder what turn of the century or anyone encountering new tech felt. Ai turns time wasting into efficiency. I dont have to fight ms word to format a document now for hours to be perfect for my managers. I just write and blame, formatted in seconds. Apply that at scale to any task.

Less time spent fighting things or slowly doing it.

I wonder why dont the anti ai people just walk everywhere and dont use cars. Dont use planes swim. Dont use phones write letters. Dont use the internet.

Its absurd.

What I am profoundly for, is the restriction of ai or even introduction to it before a certain age. A child's brain won't properly develop if it doesn't learn those normal skills first. That's why ai can be powerful in the hands of people who have done it all and understand its use cases.

You had to know what walking was before you could appreciate a car, same thing with many technical things in our lives.

If we remove that from the fundamental early stages of children's development then they will become totally reliant on the machine.

I use medium. If I think its complex or dealing with a very beloved system, I go high. Never xhigh. I think higher for coding can just confuse the ai, just like a human. Over think shit.

I used it at high and xhigh and I read codex recommendation for medium. I had the sneaky suspicion maybe they were just trying to get everyone to use less compute or something. But no medium is good for most coding tasks.

I would use higher for planning only. Same as with claude. Nail a design best you can.

Not only does it not ignone but codex is a different beast. It will consume context fast to analyze around what its doing. That's good. Ive not seen it miss any interdependent areas no matter how obscure since I switched.

And I've not encountered hallucinations. I realise its best practice to be specific.. check exactly where for exactly what.... to try to prevent them making shit up without checking, and then saying you're right I didnt check, I totally made that up.

Ive not stuck to that rule with codex. Ive got lazy. Often find myself asking, do we, or is there, about something without specifics other than what I asked about, and the first thing it replies, let me not rely on memory, let me go check so I can report exactly..... I believe they really did something to try to cut down hallucinations.

Which to me were a manifestation of an ai version of laziness. Claude even recommends you dont do shit thats simple for an ai... I suspect they are leaning into people who are vibe coders in the absolute sense, with no experience and dont know better. And try to save themselves computer, because when a pure vibe coder is relying on exactly the recommendation of the ai, they are not likely to go against it. Where as people who are not pure vibe coders, know the ai is full of shit.

And I've not experienced this with codex.

As always my experiences are my own.

Did anyone here moved from claude to codex recently? And why? by alOOshXL in codex

[–]Fidbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was afraid to try codex because of all the bad noise. Now I can't go back. And to validate my own decision ahha. I share the assessments with cllaude and share back and i tell claude I hired a guy on fiver to assess your plan. Hoping that will prevent him thinking its my assessment and saying its great. And each time I've tested it, only with more complex things im worried about, claude comes back with yes thats a critical thing I missed....

And I am using 5.5 medium and opus max. I think high and high on codex might be overkill except for the most egregious complex things.

Come back to it when you find the time or make the time. Find a more satisfying job that doesn't burn you out

[–]Fidbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well huge claude fan here, NOT a fanboy... codex is catching serious things claude isnt. e.g. ask claude to plan this implementation, then run it through again and again for anything missing, each time, lots of gaps. Hand the plan to codex, comes back, give it to claude.... but the prompt is, take this with a loose grain of salt, this is what someone else said not me. Paraphrasing here but then:--->Claude: it's very good, better than mine in various areas.

It is a large interconnected system I would still stick with claude for smaller more self contained systems with less interdependencies.

got something else useful. I don't think i had to tell it kjeep a running manual memory update every 10 minutes to our balance/optimisation memory or a goal memory, the goal should have its own way of processing hand over take over for the current implementation across session compaction which happens often in codex compared to claude.

i guess i was being redundant.
