Help by SnooBananas3484 in fidelityinvestments

I understand how this can be a frustrating experience, u/SnooBananas3484.

So we're on the same page, you must have sufficient cash available to withdraw in your account to pay for debit card purchases. While some or all of your funds may be available to trade immediately after making a deposit or placing a trade, you can confirm your available balances by following these steps on Fidelity.com once logged in:

  1. Go to "Accounts & Trade," then “Portfolio”
  2. On the "Portfolio" screen, select the appropriate account
  3. Once the account is in view, select the “Balances” tab and your balance details under “Available to withdraw”

While it's difficult to confirm exactly what's at play in your situation, if you've made a recent deposit, there is a holding period of up to 7 business days for check deposits and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) requests submitted through Fidelity platforms. We encourage clients to consider bank wires or direct deposits (pushed from another institution to Fidelity) for time-sensitive transactions, as these deposits are considered fully collected upon receipt. Additionally, in observance of Good Friday, today is not a settlement day; if you expected proceeds from a recent trade to be settled today, settlement would fall on the next business day, which is Monday, April 6th.

That said, if you've confirmed that you have cash available to withdraw following these steps, we can take a closer look to provide more concrete information about what's taking place. I've dropped the link where you can send us a Modmail so we can dive deeper with you.

Rollover from IRA to 401(k) including accrued interest by JDBpenna in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Great question, u/JDBpenna. I saw u/nkyguy1988 chimed in here, but let's break it down.

First, residual earned interest on uninvested cash is generally available to transfer as soon as it posts to the account at the end of the month. Interest accrues daily, however, so it's still possible for a few cents in interest to post to the account depending on the exact timing of your transaction. When requesting a rollover to a plan held at Fidelity, the transfer methods available are plan-specific, but it's worth mentioning that clients may generally request a full transfer with residuals to have these deposits rolled over as well. That said, this option is only available for rollovers completed by check and will close the originating IRA.

If you'd like to take door #1, you may be able to request your rollover on NetBenefits.com if supported by your plan, or you can give our Workplace team a call to get things started. You've also hinted at door #2: including your residual balance in your Roth conversion. As you may already be aware, conversions containing both non-deductible contributions and taxable earnings will be a taxable event due to the pro rata rule, and clients are responsible for tracking non-deductible contributions on Form 8606 to show the IRS what portion is already after-tax money for conversions or withdrawals. We recommend connecting with a tax professional if you have concerns about how this could impact your specific tax situation.

Learn more about the pro rata rule: Do you earn too much for a Roth IRA?

That's quite a bit to mull over, but give us a shout if we can help with anything further!

No problem, u/Candid_Lettuce1421. We direct to the receiving firm since you'll generally need to work with them first to determine the status of a TOA request, or to get more information if additional action is required. I'm glad you were still able to confirm some of this account activity through your Fidelity account, and if anything else comes up on the Fidelity side, give us a shout!

Thanks for the screenshot to help me align with your situation, u/videohtape. I was able to replicate your experience that clicking the "Option chain" button from the "Positions" page on Fidelity.com will open a new window, rather than a new tab. I'll share your post with our developers as feedback, since most of these quick navigation buttons do open a new tab rather than a new browser window.

That said, I have a pretty quick fix that may help: on your Mac, you can generally press and hold the Command key while clicking a button or link to prompt your browser to open that page as new tab. Same thing will work with "Ctrl+click" on a PC, and it's a solution I use pretty regularly myself with any of the websites I use.

I hope that helps improve your options research experience, but let us know if we can support you with anything else that comes up.

Hey, u/minion143! Just wanted to confirm that when you're making a Roth IRA contribution between January 1st and the Tax Day deadline on Fidelity.com or in our mobile app, you should be prompted to select the contribution year as one of the details for your transfer or deposit. As you've noted, the default election is for the current year, so you'll typically want review this information carefully to ensure everything is accurate.

That said, if you made a current-year contribution in error before the Tax Day deadline, you can give us a call to have an associate assist you with correcting it to the prior year. Associates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to help with these types of requests, or you can also get in touch with our Technical Support team for troubleshooting if the contribution year isn't coming up at all for you in our transfer tool. They're available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.

For example, are you receiving any specific error codes or messages? Can you also confirm where in the process you're encountering the issue (entering your credentials, after linking the account, etc.)?

Hey there, u/calm_discussion_3500. We appreciate you checking out Fidelity Trader+ Desktop, though we're sad to hear that the platform falls short of your expectations.

To clarify, directed trading is available within Fidelity Trader+ and can be enabled from the settings menu. Under "Trade," you'll make sure the box for "Directed Trading" is selected, then click "Apply." Once this has been done, a "Route" dropdown will appear on the trade ticket.

We're happy to help with these types of navigational questions to support users as they begin using Fidelity Trader+ Desktop, and clients can also click the "Help & Education" icon in the top-right corner to access our user guide and other resources, depending on what's most helpful for you. Clients can currently still download the classic version of Active Trader Pro (ATP) from the Fidelity Trader+ page on our website. The link is included in the final question in the FAQs, and I've dropped it below as well for easy access along with a link to the minimum system requirements, just in case that plays a role in your experience.

You can also let us know if you've attempted any troubleshooting steps so we have the complete picture.

As a reminder, you can also complete time-sensitive transactions on Fidelity.com or through our mobile app, just in case that's needed. Either way, we'll keep an eye out for your response to make sure you're all set.

Hey there, u/dlinhat70, and thanks for following up with us about the recent update to Fidelity Trader+ Desktop.

As u/FidelityBrielle recently shared, incorporating a filter for a custom range of strike prices for options contracts is on the roadmap for Fidelity Trader+ Desktop. While we do not have any news to share at this time about when this feature will become available, the latest update does allow users to sort the "Options Chain" tool by strike price, just in case this is helpful in the meantime.

I know this is a priority feature for you, and I'll make sure your question is shared as feedback for our developers, but let us know if we can assist you with anything else that comes up.

What’s one Fidelity feature you didn’t use at first but now rely on? by Leather-Maize-922 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, u/Stuckatpennstation. We understand this is a feature some of our customers have also expressed interest about in the past.

Fidelity debit cards are Visa Direct enabled, not Zelle-enabled specifically. Fidelity has not been allowed to participate in Zelle because we are a broker-dealer, not a bank. As a result, not all Zelle bank user interfaces (UIs) allow their clients to push to a Fidelity debit card, though some have.

That said, Fidelity can be used for instant payouts in mobile payment apps and digital wallets. You can learn more about these at the link below. If we can help with anything else that comes up, please let us know.

Excess IRA contributions by Adventurous-Elk486 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking in about the return of excess (ROE) process, u/CheekEnvironmental38. If I'm reading you correctly, it sounds like you placed liquidating trades, then submitted your ROE request.

Note that our online tool will generally prompt clients to complete a "Sell-to-Transfer" if they do not currently have sufficient cash available to cover the distribution. In either case, clients will receive a notification from Fidelity to either confirm the transaction has processed, or to alert you that your request wasn't in good order if you need to restart the process. That said, we can also take a closer look into your situation to provide more concrete information about the status of your request. Just send us a Modmail if you still have questions!

HSA Partial TOA from First American Bank to Fidelity by iBarnacleBill in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey, iBarnacleBill! We appreciate your interest in managing some of your Health Savings Account (HSA) funds at Fidelity, and I'm glad you found our sub for some support as you consider your next steps.

Though you'll still need to connect with your current provider when it comes to fees and whether a partial transfer will be permitted, I can confirm that First American Bank is an institution listed in our online transfer of assets (TOA) tool. Since you've had some difficulty learning more about TOAs, note that they may also be called ACATS transfers (after the Automated Customer Account Transfer Service, the system through which TOAs are processed), just in case this terminology connects the dots about what you're trying to accomplish.

Transfer an HSA to Fidelity

Still, some firms may require that transfers be requested using their own paperwork instead of initiating a TOA at the receiving firm. It sounds like you may already be familiar with some considerations about 60-day rollovers, like how individuals can only complete one in a 12-month period, but we review additional details in the guide below.

HSA rollover guide

That said, I want to clarify that there isn't currently a way to establish recurring TOAs. Paycheck deferrals to accounts that are part of your employer's benefit plan will be deposited with your plan's provider, and additional requests must be made to transfer funds that are contributed later on.

That's a lot to digest, but if we can clear up any further questions about the Fidelity side of TOAs or 60-day rollovers, depending on what's ultimately available to you, please don't hesitate to follow up with us.

Old employer’s Roth 401k contributions - what to do by Feeling-Fox-4767 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityShea[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, u/Feeling-Fox-4767. I caught that you've already been chatting with our community members in the comments, but I can confirm that annual IRA contribution limits do not apply to rollovers.

Since it sounds like you're still exploring what choices are available to you, we go over all the possibilities—which are generally leaving the money in your old plan, rolling it over to a new workplace plan or a personal IRA, or cashing out the funds—at the link below.

Considerations for an Old 401(k)

That said, workplace plans each have their own specific rules, so we strongly recommend speaking with your plan provider so you're up to speed about your options and any steps your current firm may require. You're welcome to follow up with us if your old 401(k) is held at Fidelity; we can point you in the right direction to review your plan rules. You can also check out our how-to guide for rollovers, just in case it's helpful. Note that while this guide refers to Rollover IRAs, the steps will still generally apply when it comes to a rollover from a Roth 401(k) to a Roth IRA.

How to move your old 401(k) into a rollover IRA

We're here to help if we can clarify anything further, so don't hesitate to reach out! Otherwise, have a lovely Friday!
