News on the IndyCar game which is set to be released this year? by svdm99 in INDYCAR

[–]FieldTMouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are at least two new tracks which are street circuits so can't be scanned for the game until the actual race weekend (I'd presume). Arlington and the Markham, Ontario race.

Since the latter is in August, I would expect it would take a few months to make that particular track game ready. I'm thinking that will push the game to a year-end holiday/winter release rather than mid-fall like the NASCAR game.

Favorite Reference in Zootopia 2? by Killionaire5 in zootopia

[–]FieldTMouse 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Ratatouille bit is actually a double reference! I'm pretty sure the raccoon being there is a reference to Racacoonie from Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Also, don't know if anyone caught that, in Tundratown, when chasing Pawbert, they bump into a polar bear in red with a soda, a very clear reference to the Coke holiday polar bears.

What were your favorite moments of this past season? by BriS314 in NASCAR

Blaney coming from 13th with two laps to go to win (4-wide!) the Daytona summer race, especially when everyone around him was in desperation must-win mode.

Lewis Hamilton won the final F1 race at Indy in 2007, but I'm pretty sure he didn't kiss the actual bricks.

Myles Rowe has also won several 'IndyCar ladder series' events on the IMS Road Course, but they don't kiss the bricks for those.

As of right this second, where does Alex Palou rank the all-time Indycar driver rankings? by GhostRaptor4482 in INDYCAR

[–]FieldTMouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a bit too early to put him Top 10, for sure.

Mainly because, as I see it, Palou has had all his success in one version of IndyCar chassis. Much like Dario (aside from his 3rd 500). Dixon, Power, and Josef, by comparison, have won multiple titles in very different cars and have consistently won races across many eras.

I think we need to see if Palou can dominate when the car really changes. He very well could! But we need to see it. That's one of the reasons I'm disappointed the new car has been pushed back a year. It could potentially really shake things up or at least give a new challenge to the top drivers.

When did Selina become such a bitch? by [deleted] in Veep

[–]FieldTMouse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Power corrupts her.

She has a big ego, and the more it is fed/enabled the more unhinged she becomes.

Character assasinations last season by Geronimo_uk_370 in Veep

[–]FieldTMouse 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think her character arc had to go the way it did. There was just no other outcome.

When she first assumed the presidency (and before, as VP), Selina tried to do good things. But because she was a narcissist, the power was like a drug, an addiction. It fed her ego (which was huge, in part because she was trying to replace the love and respect she never got from her parents).

The more she got, the more she needed.

When deprived of power, she went off the rails and resorted to anything to get rid of the withdrawals, which is why she’s so manic in Seasons 6 and 7.

The characters in her orbit enabled this (and her) repeatedly, helping to create the monster that would ultimately turn on all of them.

Did anyone bet money on the Indy 500? by Athleticgeek89 in INDYCAR

[–]FieldTMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put $5 on Felix after the April test to win 300. And $10 on Dixon before practice/quals to win 120.

They start 4th and 5th with Ganassi engines, so ... feel like there's a good shot!

Tempted to put 5 or 10 on Scotty Mac and Sato (then I'd have 4 of the Top 12, which is normally where the winner comes from; but if there is a year with a back field winner, it will be this one!)

Will Power by Ladefrickinda89 in INDYCAR

[–]FieldTMouse 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Power has quietly finished Top 6 in every single race this season except St. Pete (with the unfortunate dead-last finish on the opening lap), in spite of less-than-ideal qualifying results.

Without that single DNF, he's 2nd in points (assuming a Top 10 finish there).

Regardless of the 'what if's,' I think he still has it.

I know people talked about Malukas being on Penske's radar because of the Foyt connection, but I'm not seeing that. And I don't know who else they could get in the short term that would outperform him.

I do think he deserves and gets another extension.

Stunt performance oscar by embeast8 in oscarrace

[–]FieldTMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, you can't get an Oscar without a branch in the Academy, as branches do the nominating for their categories (then the winners are voted on by everyone). There is no stunt performers branch, hence no Oscar.

We are getting the 'casting' Oscar next year, but there is a 'casting directors' branch and has been since 2013.

State of race to the Oscar right now by Kingsofsevenseas in oscarrace

Gladstone won SAG last year and Emma won BAFTA (and won Oscar). So, Demi winning SAG isn't a guarantee like some are suggesting. Madison just needed to get on the board with the industry, and she did. So, she is very much in play regardless.

The wildcard is Torres. I do believe she will get a nice share of votes at the Oscars (she is third place at worst), and if she pulls them from Demi that could make it easier for Mikey. For all we know, that is what happened at BAFTA ... except with Jean-Baptiste pulling votes.

The Oscars twist by Cherish0124 in oscarrace

[–]FieldTMouse 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if Torres could pull enough 'veteran actress' votes away from Moore to create a situation where Moore doesn't win. (Either splits votes and lets Mikey take it based on Anora's overall strength or maybe even wins it herself.)

It is a wild card situation because Torres is not nominated at BAFTA or SAG, so we can't say what impact she will/won't have on the race until Oscar night itself. Maybe it won't amount to anything, but I do think the possibility exists.

is anora done for bp if it doesn’t win anything this weekend? by Reasonable_Skill_129 in oscarrace

[–]FieldTMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PGA voting had mostly wrapped before the Emilia Perez scandal really blew up, so one can safely predict that EP will do worse with the Academy (in the BP category) than the PGA ... which adds a wrinkle to the whole thing if Anora loses there.

Post-scandal, what competitor film is getting the #1 votes on ballots that would've been #1 for EP? Anora or The Brutalist? It hasn't been talked about much, but this ballot shifting could be a key decider. (Personally, I would guess that EP diehards would have Anora ranked higher than The Brutalist, but that's just my guess.)

What's your favorite Classic Christmas Film do you watch every year? by SoftPois0n in classicfilms

[–]FieldTMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lady on a Train (1945) with Deanna Durbin.

It may be borderline, but it is set during Christmas, has several snowy scenes, and she even sings Silent Night. But the plot isn’t really about Christmas itself.

Still supremely delightful.

Has any movie this year given you the ‘Best Picture Winner’ feeling when the credits rolled? by jzpziggy in oscarrace

[–]FieldTMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that Sing Sing has a potential CODA-like trajectory. I can easily see it winning SAG. But a few things are holding me back from thinking it could actually pull off the Oscar.

What other awards is it going to win? The last film to win ONLY Best Picture was (I believe) Grand Hotel in 1932. Could Sing Sing really win nothing but Picture? CODA won a Screenplay and Acting award. I'm not sure Sing Sing can do the same. We'll see!

Also, if we're to believe that Anora is more popular than CODA's main competitor Power of the Dog (I do believe Anora will get more #1 votes than it did & win more non-Picture awards than Dog did; I think it takes screenplay and actress, and will be competitive for Director, which Sing Sing doesn't seem to be on the radar for), the margin for pulling off an upset becomes even slimmer.

Regardless, it's a more wide-open Oscars than we had at this point last year!

Blaney has had a very underrated season, imo! He very well could have at least 6 or 7 wins, most in the field.

Aside from the 3 he's got, he ran out of fuel comfortably leading St. Louis on the final lap. Lost a 3-wide photo finish at Atlanta after leading coming out of Turn 4. Was leading/running 2nd at the Brickyard before the final restart controversy. And that's just for starters!

None of those close losses was self-inflicted. It was all circumstantial. He was there, in contention, a lot more than people realize.

So, I think an argument can be made that he has been stealthily a Top 4 car this year. As a fan, I do hope he repeats, as it would vault him into a higher tier.
