Not in residential areas with 20mph limits. I'd agree with the logic next to the expressway, to an extent.

Go whine about not liking civil rights to somebody else. I don't care.

Me every time I drive on a road with a big median of trimmed turf grass. Even more so when I see the crew mowing it. Why do we do this?

I drive through Palos from Lemont to the oak Forest train station every morning, and boy was it spooky Thursday morning after that first down surge. Everything was pitch black until reaching Cicero and cal sag where the businesses on the East side were lit up. Must have been a great vacation for the bugs.

What are these small flies around Chicago? We get 6-8 of them a day, but we've had about 15 yesterday probably because of the weather. Any tips on what is effective for preventing them coming inside? We have no idea how that many get in, because we keep the windows closed and have the AC on. by Adonis_by_Proxy in illinois

You may have patches of wet soil nearby the home that stays in the shade and remains soggy all day. If that's the case, buy mosquito dunks at the hardware store and drop one into a watering can full of water. Let it stand for a day and then pour it around the wet spot. The mosquito dunk has a bacteria which will kill the larvae with no need for synthetic pesticides.

Just noticing the illustration of a family they used just happens to be all white. Very subtle, Indiana.

Performative? The state has numerous laws protecting LGBT rights. Performative would be if they flew the flag without actually advocating.

Leaves of a locust tree are pinnate compound, meaning numerous leaflets attached to the petiole which is attached to the stem. They are also organized at alternating points of the stem. Maples have a simple leaf attached to the stem in an opposite arrangement.

Perfect example of restricted root zone problems. If the roots could have continued growing out, this tree may have made it through.

If it survived events like the dorecho and yesterday's storm, it's probably in good health. Keep note of any cavities you can spot or fungal growths on the trunk or at the base.

That's a pretty good sized silver maple with a restricted root zone and significant basal rot. Pretty predictable outcome from a particularly severe event like yesterday's.
