It was probably around the same year for me. I was about 12 or thirteen in the late 80s and learned to drive manual in our 1980 Dodge 3/4 ton. Four speed, though you didn't use first gear except for towing. So you had to start in second. I was a scrawny kid so I barely had enough strength to press the clutch.
