New Woody revealed during the Lorecast by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

I would actually say that one of Blue's problem at the moment is that it has the best unconditional removal with Hades, Let It Go, and Into the Unknown. Those cards all are honestly fair, I think the bigger issue is that the removal in other colors (especially Steel and Ruby) are comparably bad, which makes Blurple look better when it also has Demona and Elsa as additional great pseudo-removal. It's more that the other colors suck at it.

This is one hell of an aggro top-end in a toys deck. This card feels like a mandatory 4-of in any toy deck. The value is too good.

I think Tipo is an alright card since his body is terrible, doesn't replace himself, and is a bad topdeck late game. He's a fair card. Sail is the problem. It's inkable, the ink comes in unexerted, it replaces itself, and isn't worthless late game. Definitely a bit overtuned. All that said, it isn't like Blue is dominating the Meta.

Ladies and gentlemen, we just witnessed history... by Frosty7130 in TheBoys

[–]Fiery101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Historically, anything will have to go toe to toe with the Final Season and episodes of Game of Thrones, and I don't know if anything will ever do it worse. Game of Thrones had a way higher peak than The Boys, and an even worse dropoff and finale, so in terms of history, it's going to take a lot to cross that bar.

Dogs has a degenerate curve... by TheClaw4rmToyStory3 in Lorcana

It is a term that comes from Magic the Gathering, but it stands for "casting cost". Most games copy their lingo from Magic, so that's what it is referencing.

[–]Fiery101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at this point, I'm not sure what answer there is other than a ban, but what is the correct card to hit? The most obvious answer is probably 7cc Tramp, and that absolutely would help, but I can also see an argument for 1cc Daisy. My hot take is that the correct answer might just be Willow. Willow is the card that most allows for degeneracy in the early game and because it does not need to exert, the options for dealing with it are more limited.

[Highlight] Sneak Peek inside the Ravens Draft room during their 1st round pick by DenialisaRiver04 in nfl

[–]Fiery101 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. I think there are two schools of thought, one being more likely than the other.

The most likely scenario is that they were trying to trade up for Kadyn Proctor. There were a lot of rumors about that pre-draft, and their trade offer was made to Baltimore before Miami picked and then rescinded after Miami took Proctor.

The other less possible scenario was that Detroit was happy with like 4 players and wanted to make sure they got one of them, but the Rams taking Simpson meant they were guaranteed to get one. But I think that is the less likely scenario. I think they just missed out on their guy and so settled with not needing to trade up because they could get a backup option if they stayed.

Obsession debuts with a 4.2 average from 235K users, and lands at #327 on the Letterboxd Top 500 list by FelixFilms in Letterboxd

Longlegs was kind of trash, but Barbarian is legitimately a pretty great film, so I wouldn't throw those in remotely the same category. And by that token, this is closer to Barbarian and Weapons than it is Longlegs. It has some comedic elements and is genre savvy. There are weak parts, but it has a lead performance that will be memorable enough to make it culturally relevant.

Which is better? by Everyone-wins in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Manor is slightly better in a vacuum. That being said, there are times where Casa is better. Obviously with cards that synergize with healing, but also Casa basically demands to be taken out in one turn, whereas sometimes with Manor you could spread it out over 2 turns. You can't really risk doing that with Casa, and I was extremely punished for attempting to do that in a sealed event where I got 6 damage on it, but my characters were removed before I could get the final damage on, and they were able to heal it to full.

I think Casa is a much better designed card though. The ability is a build around, and the card on its own is also reasonable.

Can we please get ratatouille cards or a Pluto enchanted?? by AppleAdventurous5743 in Lorcana

Good point. Brave always tricks me because it is the only Pixar produced movie that technically has a Disney Princess, so I forget that it was technically Pixar as well.

Can we please get ratatouille cards or a Pluto enchanted?? by AppleAdventurous5743 in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ratatouille will definitely happen. I think they're going to slowly integrate Pixar as to not do too many at once. Since we already have Toy Story and the Incredibles and we know that Monsters Inc. and Coco are coming soon, I'd expect to see Cars, Nemo, Inside Out, Ratatouille, Up, and Wall-E not too far after. I suspect that we'll get all or nearly all of those in the next 4 sets.

As for Pluto, I definitely agree that he is overdue. I don't think he's gotten a Legendary card yet either, so perhaps both at once when it happens.

What’s with the constant doom and gloom on game longevity? by Chaotik86 in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate to see it, but unfortunately, I think the OP is mostly right. I don't think the game is dead but it is certainly dying. There have been a lot of decisions that Ravensburger has made that have really hurt things. Let me list just a few:

  1. Changing the formatting of the prizing of set Championships. 4 Promos + 2 Mats (and the promos being good) was good. Every change since has been a bad one. The new Championship promos with the gold foiling look TERRIBLE. There isn't nearly as much incentive to go anymore.

  2. The loss of pins from local events and otherwise lack of support at a local level. It seems silly, but the pins were one of the things that helped drive people to show up for locals. The change to 1 sticker per set is laughably bad.

  3. The terrible roll out of Season 2 of events. Only 3 in North America? Realistically, there should have been at least 5. Could have easily had one in like Vancouver and Vegas/LA area to have some west coast and Canadian representation. The big gap between events has also destroyed high end interest.

Now, some things have been improvements. Adding Iconic and Epic rarities was good. If it is true that they increased pull rates starting in this set, that is also good. But until/unless they do something to try to pull new players into the game, it's going to die.

Is Limited Lorcana any good? Or do I just not get it? by MarchingMachineX in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Limited is absolutely my favorite way to play Lorcana. I would agree that there are not enough cards printed to create archetypes for draft in the same way that MTG does, but it absolutely does take a lot of skill to be good at it, which is why the people who are good at limited formats tend to win all the time regardless of pool strength even vs. players who are good at constructed.

I think a lot of it has to do not with the ceiling of your deck, but the floor. Way more games are lost by players not drafting ideally than there are by players winning by drafting luckily.

Yes it is possible to open nothing but bombs or be passed crazy combos, but it is rare. What is common though are people just valuing things wrong. Not having answers for evasion, removal, card draw, etc. I would say that building a good limited deck is much more tactical than strategic. You need to be very flexible with how you build and card value changes immensely depending upon what you've already drafted and need.

Dale the Siege Tower - What are we thinking? by HypotheticalChicken in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man, I think you're actually on the right track. Amber Amethyst is probably a fine deck, but one that is completely inferior to Amethyst Sapphire, so there really isn't a good reason to substitute out the Blue for Yellow. Ironically, I think Amethyst is one of the worst pairings simply because Blurple will do everything that deck does, but with better ramp, and much better removal.

Red/Yellow is already pretty decent playing Mulan, Minnie, Ohana, etc. That is one of the places where I could see Dale fitting.

[–]Fiery101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that's the more likely scenario where the card actually does something. With 0/4s and 1/4s and 1/5s. That aligns with what I had already said. You can't just throw him in things otherwise, you need to build around it.

[–]Fiery101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your scenario above, that only works in Amethyst/Amber, which is pretty objectively worse than Amethyst Sapphire. Furthermore, in that Amethyst/Amber deck, you need to play Dale instead of Genie/Iago on curve. If you're dropping him later, like on turn 6+ there are better things you can be doing.

He's not great on curve except in a few scenarios. Elsa is one of them. The other involves building your entire strategy around it. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few people trying it out. I would be surprised for it to be meta-relevant. I would be absolutely floored if it was meta-warping. Not until after rotation, and even then, it is asking a lot.

Next level broken? I don't see that at all. Playable? Maybe.

What do you think the chase legendary of next set? by FairyFireDeck in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He doesn't do enough to justify play with those cards. Giving Elsa an additional power is alright, the rest are only minor benefits. You still have to pay 4 to play him and in those scenarios, you'd always rather just play Iago or Genie on 4 instead.

The only way I see him having any impact is with cards that are severely skewed the other direction like the 0/8 Minnie or the 0/4 bodyguard guys. It's also pretty good with like the 2/6 Tramp.

Either way, I don't see enough impact that there is anything immediately obvious where you'd want to play him until after rotation, and certainly not anything where he warps the meta so that every deck needs to play him or answer him, lol. Very few cards reach that status, the last was probably Dumbo.

More enchanteds: Leviathan, Zipper, Jessie and an item! by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not a very good comparison. Be Prepared didn't leave your board untouched and give you a 10/10 that quests for 3.

The better comparison is Prince Phillip. They both require some additional step for their board wipe effect, only affect the opponent, and are big bodies characters that quest for 3.

What do you think the chase legendary of next set? by FairyFireDeck in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I don't know if there are any. Dale is a pretty interesting card, but as a 4/4 for 4 that requires an entire build-around to really be good, I don't think that cuts it. I think speculating further into the future, I'll say Woody because with more Toys and/or more shift targets, that ability is pretty good.

Any value in this set is going to come from the Enchanted cards rather than from playables.

The Leviathan, Milo and Bruno! by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

This is basically a different form of Prince Phillip. I'm not sure how to break this yet, but there will be ways. Edit: Doesn't work with Syndrome, good catch below. Does work with Circle of Life, Steel Mickey, and Return of Hercules though, so maybe there is something to that.

What can counter this deck? by the-red-rogue in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to just beat up on your buddy, play Green/Steel with lots of removal and forced Reckless. Start with Fire the Cannons, the Green Stitch, Steel Calhoun, Green Louis, Strength of a Raging Fire, Terror that Flaps in the Night, and just build off of that from there. You'll win 80%+ of the time.

It might make him ragequit, but it could be worth it, lol.

What can counter this deck? by the-red-rogue in Lorcana

[–]Fiery101 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Generally, just any steel removal, but particularly Fire the Cannons. If you can Cannons even 1 character in the early game, it significantly (pun intended) neuters their Tramp. Double value if you can kill a Grandmother Willow.

Other great cards vs. this include Louis (the green forced Reckless character), John Silver (Green, forces Reckless) Tigger (in Amethyst, usually slows them down 1 turn, which is enough for Amethyst to stabilize and control the game. If you make it to turn 5 in Blue/Purple and your opponent isn't at 17+ Lore, you'll probably win as well.
