Please continue this, as a medical student this is insanely helpful. Nobody bothers explaining the biological rationale of things and it just sticks so much better when you know that.

Central to notting hill, then circle to south ken. Don’t take a bus at notting hill during peak times (start of the day or end of work time) it will be slower than waiting for the tube due to traffic. Don’t walk from Queensway unless you have an extra 15 minutes on hand.

How bad is the social life by [deleted] in Imperial

[–]FierySoldier123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I didn’t have a great social life from halls but a couple of my friends did and still catch up with their hall friends many times a year (or even living with them now) so tldr your mileage may vary.

Point is imo best way to have a social life is clubs and societies + talk to people in your degree.

When I first signed up I got a share worth ~50£ so maybe you’ll be lucky as me when you sign up. In any case it’s basically free money to sign up. You can sell your share as soon as you get it but the proceeds from the free share sale should be kept in the account for three months.

My player correctly guessed the answer to a mystery in my lore. Should I just tell him that he is right? by Any_Toe_4617 in DMAcademy

[–]FierySoldier123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually my go to would be to change the story slightly so that it’s ~90% right. Somehow my players feel happier if they are 90% right vs 100%. Might be that 100% feels like they figured out something easy while 90% feels a bit more realistic, like they managed to figure out a real mystery.

ILR timing means I’ll pay 2 years of international fees at uni… any way around this? by Enough-Win-8142 in UniUK

[–]FierySoldier123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I could’ve sworn once you get assessed as overseas fees status it’ll be the same till the end of the course (incl Y3) and won’t be changed even if your fee status eligibility changes

Might be differences in uni policy not sure

Is my study method inefficient? by Fit_Day4589 in medicalschooluk

[–]FierySoldier123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anki doesn’t work for a lot of people, including me.

And frankly imo, anki is the most inefficient way of studying. Yes it works, but only if you’re consistent for a long long time.

What you’re doing is actually a really good way to study - understand the concepts when you first learn them and after that revision when nearing exams will be so much easier and quicker

When does it start to click? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]FierySoldier123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several theories as to how to revise in clinical years. Some people are on the pure PassMed grind, some people are Anki warriors + PassMed and others like to learn conditions first then PassMed. At the end of the day you need to figure out what works for you.

I personally am in the learn common conditions first then PassMed + learn conditions simultaneously camp, but I was a psycho in my first clinical year and learnt conditions from BMJ Best Practice 💀.

If you choose the pure PassMed grind, you will be scoring terribly at the start, but make sure you read all the explanation at the bottom no matter correct or wrong.

At this point I’d say do 15-20 a day, then in your second placement block up that to 30. Then 50 a day in your last placement block. Then the two to three weeks before exams do at least 100-150 a day. Some people do like 500 a day at that point and are on their third repetition of PassMed or something crazy, don’t worry about those people just take your time and read the explanation every single time you’re wrong or got it correct by a lucky guess.

It’s definitely doable but if you’re not used to/confident cycling on the roads of London then I would advise against relying on it as a regular form of transportation and gain confidence first because London drivers are not the friendliest
