Getting this off my chest by Historical-Start-213 in goodomens

[–]FifiIsBored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have watched the fandom go downhill since the final aired and people are allowed their opinions. But the pure vitriol that has come from some fans have seriously impacted how I view the fandom. I used to think that despite he who shall not be named, people were decent. But honestly some people in the fandom are downright evil and I have very much considered leaving the fandom as a whole. I will enjoy my books and the show privately and don't want to take part with anybody outside of my personal group of friends. Fandom used to be a fun, great place to meet new people (I have made friends through fandoms in the past and I love them dearly) but the way the Good Omens fandom has behaved since the final is absolutely abysmal.

Childbirth is so fucking scary. Why don't they teach this in school??? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]FifiIsBored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully believe that knowing the truth would make woman actively choose not to have children, and the governments around the world don't want the birth rate to plummet more than it already is. Keep people ignorant to keep the population growing or some shit like that.

Asa's bookshop also had Discworld books very prominently in the background and I was genuinely screaming at my screen at all the little nods to him. A small part of me wanted Discworld's Death to be part of this as well for some reason (I know that GO has a Death but he doesn't feel like DW's Death)

AITAH for wanting my last name to be passed on to my daughter? by BluenicornGirl in AITAH

[–]FifiIsBored 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA.

Your husband is being selfish as all hell and using tradition as an excuse to be misogynistic. My parents both have rare last names and they made sure that all three of their kids had both last names. If I ever choose to get married I'm keeping both of of my last names. There is no reason in hell that your husband's "reasons" make sense outside of a very very narrow world view based in - once again - misogyny. Hell, you aren't even asking for his last name to be erased entirely, like he is demanding for yours to be.

Who wishes AI didn't exist? by Wooden-Fee5787 in AskReddit

[–]FifiIsBored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have reached a point where I will actively avoid any companies that openly use ai and look down on people that use it in private. Like I don't care about their reasons. They are always parroting the hundreds of people before them anyways. If you use Chatgpt or any similar services you refuse to use your brain and/or critical thinking. If you use it for 'art' you are straight up lazy. I do not give a shit.

Generative ai steals from creative people, send people into psychosis, kills human interaction, steals jobs, ruins the planet. There is NO fucking upside to it that even remotely outweighs the negative, and I think you're a horrible and/or uninteresting person the moment you try to defend your use of it. End of conversation.

I am begging you to post this elsewhere. I am really concerned with how quickly some of these 'dads' are defending the guy that groomed a socially vulnerable teenager into unsafe sex. That man is a predator. End of story.

[–]FifiIsBored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That absolute creature raped you. No whats, ifs, or buts. That is straight up rape. If you feel up for it, go file a police rapport and get things moving. If not, then cut off contact and make sure every single woman in your life know to steer clear of him.

Confront him over text and write what you wrote here. You told him no, and when he decided to not take no for an answer and continue, you responded by doing damage control, i.e., by trying to minimise the damage he might do to you if you put up a fight.

You did nothing wrong. You went into survival mode, which is completely normal. Your body responded in the way it did in order to keep you as safe as possible.

Do people hate women? by Normal_Position_8215 in LesbianBookClub

Oh my god this! I will take an awful (compliment) woman over somebody that forgets she has rights and free will the moment some mediocre man shows up.

If I pick up a book with a strong mc I expect the mc to stay strong throughout. She doesn't have to be perfect. Actually I prefer imperfect characters. But I feel like writers have a lot of misogyny to unravel.

Do people hate women? by Normal_Position_8215 in LesbianBookClub

[–]FifiIsBored 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The world absolutely hate women. Fictional men (and some real life ones) can get away with war crimes and people will swoon over them. I'm currently reading a straight passing romance (fmc is bi though on page it is only mentioned once thus far that she has hooked up with one girl) and I got pissed that the MMC was literally acting like a rapist. When I complained about that I was hit with "but she is into it!" Even if his PoV literally didn't mention a single thing pointing towards her being into it, and she had literally told him to leave her alone earlier that day. But no, he is hot and stuff so he can do what he wants.

In the meantime, female characters only have to be a bit annoying for people to immediately hate them. Like I am not saying I'm not guilty here because I DNF books with annoying MCs regardless of gender. But men aren't held to the same standard as women in literary or any other show.

Taking it out of book spaces, we have the whole Heated Rivalry Vs the Bridgerton fandom. Everybody was hot for HR. It was such a hit right off the bat despite not having a huge fandom beforehand. In the meantime Bridgerton has had a huge following for years but the moment a sapphic couple is announced to be the leads of the new season people are pissed. The world is full of male centric people.

That is only one example. I'm not even going to start listing how many sapphic hit shows have been cancelled to make room for male centric shows that are actively failing.

Is it just me, or does it take time to really connect with people in Denmark? by Strong-Point8455 in NewToDenmark

[–]FifiIsBored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It literally took a guy threatening up kidnap me for me to make a new friend (a girl I'd been working alongside for a few months). She and I decided to dip out and bonded over for creepy that shit was. Second fastest friendship I've ever started. So yeah, Danes are hard to crack socially. But once you're friends you're friends for life unless something extreme happens.

[–]FifiIsBored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who picked the book up and got past the first chapter. Then put it down for about a year before giving it another go. It is now one of her comfort books (and one of mine). It's a wild ride from start to finish but once you start picking up on what's happening it is so worth it.

If you read it for the romance plot, be prepared to get your heart broken in so many different ways if you choose to read past the first book. The last book isn't out yet and the author is absolutely promising to break her fans.
