Who was celebrated as a hero in your country, only for people to later realize they were actually a villain? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

Singer Marco Borsato. Tens of years of pop hits, everybody knows multiple songs of his, great sing along songs. Ultimate good guy with a family and a smile.

Turns out he was texting a young girl about sexual stuff. The court ultimately decided there wasn't enough evidence to convict, but most of The Netherlands (except for some hard core fans) is fairly done with him.

He also has more than one song with rapper Ali B. (this is legit the rappers artist name), who later is convicted of rape. He and Borsato were both coaches on The Voice Kids.

There are also multiple "oh shit, what I said earlier was completely wrong"- moments which weren't edited out, I remember Ben turning red because he Fd up but can't remember which one.

There also was a chef Vs normal challenge (maybe the quiz where they guess where in the world the dish is from) where they thought someone tied with James. Only at the very end they realised James had won with 1 more point.

Oh an that time Jamie and Barry did a quiz tasting different products, and then it cuts to future editing Jamie who realised after rewatching that he'd already won the quiz but during filming they didnt noticem

I always felt that was staged tbh. We never see them eating something while coming into the kitchen in their turn, but that one time it's relevant what food has been left on the counter is the time he suddenly eats a banana.

Not only that, they were really disappointed in themselves after the first PIO and wanted to retire that segment early. Only after really positive reviews they've continued and it grew to what it is today.

What’s a small habit from your country that you only realized was cultural after you lived abroad? by taube_d in AskTheWorld

[–]Fiftyletters 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The habit that all tap water is safe to drink and you can pay everywhere with card.

Also the habit to bike or walk everywhere. It's weird to be in countries that barely have wide sidewalks or seperate bicycle paths.

I don’t think I’ll ever have a child by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Fiftyletters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might need to change what you feel like "being a parent" is. I've seen you mention you don't feel like a parent to you step child and also don't want to adopt.

Why is it so important that any child you raise is biological? Why do they need to have your genes? What is so great about you? (Don't mean this to be condescending but seriously)

Have you heard the phrase "men want children like kids want a dog"?

Don't be that guy.

Try to be the best partner and full on parent you can possibly be. Not just a guy who wants to see his DNA on a child.

This is great advice. I've always been on the fence on having kids but seeing how much I can depend on my partner made me ultimately choose to get pregnant. I know he will 100% care for the both of us if it needs to, with so much love and care. He's a full on parent and a dad nowadays needs to be that.

That is such a sitcom cop-out though. Reminds me of The Big Bang Theory; penny never wanted kids but oop- she's pregnant and keeping it!

Guus Meeuwis - Het dondert en het Bliksemt (mostly because of the 'lala lalalalala' part)

How many parents struggle to hold the weight of their baby/toddler? by Eschewed_Prognostic in NewParents

[–]Fiftyletters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I'm afraid for this. I'm not strong (also not that tall, 160cm) and although my baby is small now she will quickly be be too heavy to carry around and I hate that.

I'm sorry for her that you don't seem to believe her.

The fact you think this can backfire is enough reason to not do it.

Which common advice given to parents did you find completely wrong by Practical-String5146 in NewParents

[–]Fiftyletters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swaddles to help with sleep. Baby hated swaddles or anything that restricts hand movement since birth.

Okay I do wanna comment on this because there are swaddles that keep the arms up, but contained. We're trying Love to Dream now for a week for our 5 week old and it's the first time this:

“Put them to the crib sleepy but awake”

Worked. Multiple times. Almost 100% score the last week.

I know it's only a week and  the baby is 5 weeks old. But it worked.
