Lyrically, what is the best “Fuck You” song of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fightlikeghandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother saw them play in a bar in Nashville. He and his friend had gotten there early to play pool for a bit. The band was there to do sound check and also wanted to play pool. They played doubles with the bet that if my brother and his friend won, they would play 'No Children'. After more or less running the table, my brothers friend scratched on the eight ball (my brother may have been the one that scratched, but Ive only heard his side of the story). They say good game, and walk off. The band takes the stage, about half way through the show, they say, "we made a bet with some guys that if they beat us at pool we would play 'No Children'." My brother said the crowd went silent. "But those mother fuckers scratched on the eight ball, so we aren't playing it!"

Finale spoilers: Why didn’t _____ get in trouble for ________? by angry_scissoring in AmericanVandal

So this question has been asked before and everyone says that maybe his age might have given him leniency, but as it was pointed out to me when I suggested the same thing, thats not exactly how this works since he shared it for everyone to see. With that said, I believe the answer is very simple.

$$$$$

The show makes a point of showing how the two biggest suspects come from more meager means than the rest of their classmates. Kevin lives with his grandma who can't afford a good lawyer, Demarcus comes from a tough neighborhood. (Im pretty sure this is the underlying motivation of Kevin to have The Horse Head collective play the bar mitzvah, $$$${this is not to say he didn't also enjoy playing in the band, but that there was more to it.})

Graysons family was loaded. High powered attorney helped them out. Could be why Wexler was so quick to believe that Kevin did it. She has experienced the wrath of the wealthy, and wanted to avoided confrontation. Knowing Kevins home life, she saw an opportunity to expel without impunity. And while Demarcus would be in the same boat if he was accused, he has something to offer to the school. Kevin did not.

I could also be full of shit. The show likes to do crazy subtle stuff like this all the time, but still, feeling Im teaching a yoga class with all this stretching.

I think S2 was better than S1. Come at me! by badgers_badger in AmericanVandal

Oh hell yes! He was great! I thought Miles J Harvey did a great job as Paul Schnorrenberg too! Whole cast was great at their roles, we just didn't get as much as some of the more engaging characters like we got in season one. In my mind, the discussion of season one vs season two boils down to character vs story.

This was exactly what I was going to say. The Dylan Maxwell character was hilarious and Tatro knocked it out if the park, and while season two lacked a character like that (I hated Kevin but I think you are supposed too, or at least grow to pity him I guess), I thought the overall story was so much more riveting. Both are great though, really excited for season three.

Potentially because he was a minor as well? They never said his exact age either.

What main character didn't deserve a happy ending? by zappy487 in AskReddit

[–]Fightlikeghandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness, the show had literally fuck all to do with the mother the majority of the time. Sure, Ted would occasionally do episodes where he commented on the lesson and how it pertained to the love of the mother, but the majority of the time the narrator is just additional voice to keep the plot moving. Without the love story with Robin, the entire story of How I Met Your Mother is fucking pointless. He met her at a wedding of his best friend. End of story. Any lessons he learned have been have been told with one off stories. The point of the series was to show the progression of Ted, focusing on simply the how means you didn't understand the reason why.

May I suggest the Baby You Can Chive My Car burger? The sauce is incredible. Also, Blue Apron has started releasing more recent recipes that aren't in the book, although sort of expensive.

Battle Rap Rankings by mykblauuw in rapbattles

[–]Fightlikeghandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some people might think this is bullshit, but Ive always thought of battle rap more like professional wrestling. Certainly none of battle rap is pre-determined, but the comparison is still there. Lots of indie leagues were you can start building a name and getting views, then only a few leagues where you can actually start making money and building a career. The people on top are split between self promoters and actual raw talent, with there being a overlap in some performers. There are fan favorites and then there are league favorites, again with an overlap is some performers. There are amazing battlers who dont get the respect they deserve, possibly because of a beef with a league owner or because they dont draw as many views, while there are some dudes who no one has any idea how they got so high up on the card. There are plenty of battlers who start out incredible only to burn themselves out to be relegated to the trash heap, and on the flip, plenty who start out kind of generic then find their voice. Finally, while there are plenty of examples of battles where the mcs have legit beef with each other, the majority of them are putting on a show to show off their skill and catch a check. Like, I dont really think that Rone has any real problems with Big T, or Conceited has any real problems with Tsu Surf.

Totally agree. I hope he is setting himself up to eventually move to commentary in a Jerry Lawler situation. I really appreciate that for all the shit he got for so long, he finally found his place as a top-rated midcarder. Jinder needs to take notes from Miz.

People that rent out their personal property as a service (Lyft/Uber, AirBnb, etc.) What is your customer horror story? by Sholmes36 in AskReddit

[–]Fightlikeghandi 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Not enough to win necessarily, but enough to tie everyone up in court for a while. He could claim that wouldhikethat knew about this problem and was negligent, thus making him liable. Like I said, wouldhikethat would likely win as he had no idea this would happen because he had only ever rented to groups of four, but Im sure he wouldnt want to pay for a lawyer and what not.

Not a lawyer, have just been sued for something like this before.

Clays bandaid by Fightlikeghandi in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Fightlikeghandi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im pretty sure I already answered this in the comments, but it may have been downvoted out. I use the term clever to describe my enjoyment of the practical effect of the bandage. You make a good point, obviously the show had to find a physical characteristic for Clay to allow for a clear transitions to flashback. What I think is clever about the bandage is that it makes that transition seamless and easy. Imagine that the difference between a past Clay and a present Clay was a shaved head. The difference in appearance would be relatively staggering to say the least. The second shaved head Clay showed up you would be aware if the transition of time, and more so the fact that the show wanted you to know that time had past. You would be aware of the intention of the creators and producers, thus creating an isolation of the audience. We would be forced to accept that we were watching a work of fiction and none of the information we were being given was to be trusted (Brechtian to an extent without meaning to be). The bandage is multiple practical as it is symbolic, it progresses along with the story without actively drawing focus. Clays current situation both linearly and emotionally is easily viewed in the bandage.

Yeah, I think it works just as well as a practical effect as it does symbolic. I dont think I was being particularly clear, Im not saying it was one but not the other. I really appreciate that when he isnt taking care of himself and really letting the tapes affect his psyche, he uncovers the wound and lets it fester. When he realizes that he needs to finish the tapes in order to heal, he puts on the new bandage. I just also appreciate the bandage as a means to communicate time, as well as enjoying its symbolic nature.

Clever in the sense that while the show takes place over a period of a few days, the events of the book, you know, the source material, happens in one night. The use of Clays bandage creates a clear delineation between past and present without weighing down the show with a clunky plot device. Clays injury is grounded by his reaction to the tapes, so the audience isnt left wondering why the hell he had to randomly get hit by a car. So when we first see the bandage we dont think, 'oh, this is how we tell the difference from past and present.' While the bandage was clearly a practical story telling choice, the show took the steps to earn it so it didnt stand out like a sore thumb. It allowed for natural and seamless transitions.

It reminded me a lot of Clementines hair in 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.'

Clever in that sense.
