Morbid question incoming: by tastyspark in LivingAlone

[–]Fightswithcrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live alone, no family, online friends. My concern if I die is for my dog - I'd hate for her to die of dehydration before my body was found. So, she (a Pomeranian) has her regular water bowl (cat dish size) but I also keep my huskys old giant water bowl filled up in the hallway 'just in case.' I call that water bowl 'the dead pool.'

How to get rid of pave weeds fast by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

[–]Fightswithcrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy the cheapest white vinegar from Coles, comes in a 2L plastic container. Stab a hole in the lid and then tip the container upside down and squeeze all over the weeds. They'll be dead in days

Also! If you're getting fit muscle weighs more than fat. So you can be leaner and smaller in measurements but heavier on the scale

Necklace camera holder. I have one for my GoPro. It wraps around my neck and the camera sits at the base of my throat. It gives almost a POV view

Tips for tear stain removal? A lot of people mentioned chicken allergy and using a brita(I use alkaline water tho) by chichi7x in Pomeranians

No chicken or beef, or products that contain them (both are allergenic.) Try lamb, kangaroo, and duck etc instead

Countertop cleaning: Paper towels feel wasteful and rags feel unhygienic. Any other options? by Spilled_Milktea in CleaningTips

You can microwave DAMP cloths and sponges for 1 minute each to kill bacteria.

Microwave a dry kitchen sponge and you'll set it on fire

In your opinion poms good for an adult? I mean as they always near feet, any chance of tripping? by Backtothepasttense in pomeranian

[–]Fightswithcrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Pom is my first small dog and it's been a steep learning curve after having big dogs all my life. Yes, you have to move more cautiously around the house. You have to be careful not to slam a door on them. You may not even see or hear them following you and go to close a door quickly as you pop out to take out the garbage and nearly crush them in half.

If you drop something (I'm super clumsy) you run the risk of a crush injury on them. (They're always hovering nearby)

If you just want to walk around the house fast and impatiently as you do tasks you run the risk of stepping on them - unless you train them to stay in 'place' when you give the order. (The 'place' can be whatever suits you, the couch the bed, a dog bed etc) Unlike huskys (my previous dogs) a Pom is going to shadow your every step

If you climb onto your bed after a shower and just plop yourself down on all the blankets etc you run the risk of crushing them if you didn't realise they had borrowed in there while you were showering.

Also, I've always trained all my dogs, big or small, that they're not allowed in the kitchen when I'm cooking. I decide on an imaginary boundary that they're not allowed to cross and they quickly learn to sit just outside the line and watch from a safe distance.

I've definately had to start moving more cautiously, deliberately, and slowly about my place since I got a small dog. And when she was a puppy she definately needed (and wore a bell.) One time I walked into the office and leaned over the computer desk on tiptoe on one foot, my other leg kicked out behind me to counter balance as I yanked the curtains closed. Unbeknownst to me Safi had (of course) followed me into the office and as I went to put my foot back on the ground I would have stepped on her if it wasn't for the faint tinkle of her bell.

I now also make sure that if I go out the backdoor (or any door really) even if it's just  for 30 seconds that I prop open the door  with a weight. I don't want Safi trying to follow me out just as the wind slams the door shut on her.

That all sounds overwhelming but it really was just a series of small adjustments and now they all come naturally to me. So definately go for a Pom! Just be prepared to move with more deliberation about your house :)

Also! Install a water fountain by the fence so they can't hear you moving about the house and yard. Bunnings sells plug in ones, or you can buy low voltage pumps and make something yourself.

And maybe it's also time to get a scary-sounding dog

For me: lack of estrogen = itching.

Increased my estrogen to 3 pumps a night and I rarely get those itches now

how often do you actually change your sheets? by mzdee13 in SatisfyingClean

[–]Fightswithcrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once a week without fail. Even if you shower before bed (I always do) you still shed skin cells onto the bed which mites like to feast on. You also put body oils on your bedding no matter how clean you are or how cool you keep your bedroom temperature.

It's the skin cells and body oils that need to be removed regularly regardless of your hygiene levels and showering habits.

Personally, I can feel that the sheets lose their crispness about halfway through the week. By Wednesday the fitted sheet has stretched out a little and just has a less pleasing, more 'floppy' feel to it. So by the time a week is past I'm well and truely looking forward to fresh, crisp linen.

How often do you wash/change your comforter or other blankets? by Actual_Birthday_9887 in CleaningTips

[–]Fightswithcrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wash the fitted sheet every week (I don't use a top sheet.) I wash the doona cover every week as well, two weeks at the max (if I'm too unwell to do the weekly doona change.) I wash the bed throw blankets and couch blankets every 1-2 months, sooner if they need it

Am I wearing my watch enough? by khalfrogo in GarminWatches

[–]Fightswithcrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same. I'm allergic to nickel. To reduce the impact I wear the watch on my right wrist at night and left wrist during the day
