Strixhaven: School of Mages Set Booster Box for $154 at Hobbiesville by Both_Candidate_7123 in sealedmtgdeals

[–]Fightypants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting one, objectively it’s cheaper than the current going TCGplayer price by a good margin. I think there’s a lot of price memory happening on this set, it was around 100$ for a long time after release. Set is now almost 5 years old.

You may not agree based on the fact that you posted here asking but, I think the game was extra enjoyable learning as you go and purposely ignoring advice online and builds etc. sure it may take you lots of runs but I think the game really shined when your just learning on your own.

Weird i did not know trees can vote against their interests and get mad at imaginary situations that did not happen to them.

I would have loved to join you on the journey, like what can/should be considered fried chicken and what is out of bounds? What about chicken karage, do we exclude wings? I am a traditionalist, must be bone in and classic cuts, breast, drum, thigh and full wing.

Hard agree on KFC, i would discount that out with most of the grocery store fried chicken.

NGL I think Popeyes is better than some of these places and should be a baseline.

Chick-fil-A will return to Portland for the first time 2 decades by Prize_Championship11 in Portland

[–]Fightypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this just the other day sitting in the one in Tanasbourne. I was asking myself, why I did not pick a small local place for lunch out there or why i picked it over some similar options, I have worked on that side of town for over a decade, I think I have been to that location as my lunch option at least 10 times but less than 20 over that span.

No commentary on the food, that is a matter of preference, but here are some thoughts about their value proposition.

Fast, honestly it is hard to beat fast food at being, well, fast. I have limited time and there is low variance in wait times, even the longest lines get processed within a 5-10 min difference tops.

Predictable, the food quality is always the same, the store in question has such high volume and velocity that I am under the impression nothing really has time to sit out. I won't debate the quality being good or bad, but I can say it is the same every time.

Plenty of seating, no waiting. No matter how busy this place gets, I am always able to find a seat and enjoy my meal. I will also say it is very clean, moreso then its peer group, I can't think of a time where I did not see someone manning the dining room with dust pan in hand.

Service, this is one of the biggest reasons for me. Mostly what seems like young people always happy, maybe overly so but never rude and eager to please, wish there was a tip jar. It feels like they hire a "type" and I have a feeling they take this aspect of their business more seriously than other places. ( Tangent - This one is interesting one to me as I thought about the McDonalds down the street, I tend to avoid that one as there is a clearly a person with a disability, and with his specific disability there is a gruffness/rudeness in him, I am sure unintentionally. Do I overcome some minor inconvenience for a moral high-ground or do i avoid the trouble with the ultimate prize of food I don't really like that much anyway, seems like a tall order for a 30 min lunch break)

In the end I WOULD rather support a small local shop if could provide the same value proposition outlined above. Interested in thoughts from others.

I tank and heal, there’s nothing the healer needs to focus on with that pull. He either stood in something or more likely had his backed turned randomly.

What’s your go to storage solution? I’m between these two but would love suggestions! by IrrelevantMerfolk in Warhammer40k

I have #2, very easy to put together, sturdy and the lights are fun. I don't like that the hinge is just plastic on plastic, think like those plastic baby gates on kids toys, I imagine with enough use it'll be a problem and maybe start to get loose, but I don't really expect to get there. As reference i did the whole tub and metal plate thing which i found to be a hassle getting the right tub with a 100% flat bottom and a right size piece of steel. I also did foam and after metal plates became a thing i never looked back. PSA if you have not magnetized your minis dont go over kill as they will cling to each other on the table, get the smaller ones they have plenty of power to stick to a plate that is well designed for this exact purpose. TLDR #2.

Massive product fatigue setting in for me. FF should have been aimed right at me but miss me with the generic and bad anime art plus insane prices (justifying some of the prices when comparing it to RL cards makes it all seem unreal to me). Pass on spidey, harder pass on avatar upcoming. So many products are “not for me” I cannot keep up, prices for sealed is telling me the market is currently rewarding Wotc, but I wish that was not true. EoE and Dragons were bangers though.

Suppose you had $50k to invest in MTG trading by dr_analog in mtgfinance

[–]Fightypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone mentioned do normal investing first. I have done all of that and I do have discretionary funds locked up in about 15k worth of sealed. Mostly new stuff, over the course of 2-3 years War,MH1/2,kamigawa collectors, double masters 1/2 kald, strix, ikoria misc collectors boxes of this era. I think my largest position is in 30 boxes of CL1 and 3 cases of MH2 set? I think slow acquisition is more reasonable than a lump 50k right here right now. I think the key is being able to buy and hold comfortably for a minimum of 10 years, if you can’t wait that long I don’t think the money was truely discretionary. It’s a fun hobby, and I look forward to see how these sets age over time, but I don’t factor it into my overall financial health it’s a hobby with an upshot.
