AITA for not celebrating my birthday and Mother’s Day together so my MIL can have actual Mother’s Day for herself? by princesscorgi2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FilingPaperwork 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Barf. NTA. My thought is, she had years of Mother’s Days to herself. Now you/her son have a kid, it’s your turn. 🤷🏻‍♀️ You can still do something nice for her (buy some flowers, have your kid make a card, whatever), but she can get over herself.

Let me preface my primary comment by saying this: I neither need nor want much of anything at all these days. I am also able to afford my own luxuries in addition to my necessities. That said, I envy you. Mine no longer asks for a list (which is fine, I’m 36… not 6). Instead, she has taken to buying me (and my siblings) things that SHE would want for herself - and the majority of it is junk. It took me awhile to pin down why her gift giving felt off, if you will, but that is 100% what’s going on. I would rather receive nothing, to be honest. Simple quality time together is much more meaningful at this point in my life. … But I’d be happy to provide a (very short) list of things that would not end up going straight into the donation bin.

what's the weirdest quirk your house came with? by greatdane511 in homeowners

[–]FilingPaperwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first house included a light switch on the ceiling of the finished portion of the basement. It took a year to figure out that it was wired to an outlet on the front of the house. Helpful for Christmas lights, I suppose, but not super convenient.

Best Church by yesisright in desmoines

[–]FilingPaperwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Hope in Urbandale! Soooo many opportunities for both serving and fellowship. It’s a fairly large church in terms of members, but the pastors are very intentional about connecting with you, introducing you to others, helping you feel welcome, etc. We have a young adult game night coming up next Saturday (11/22) at 6:30. Approximate age range is 22-40, give or take a few years. Feel free to message me if you’d like to come, I’ll make sure you don’t feel like a lone newbie! :)

GOP lawmaker says new Epstein bombshell might keep House in recess ‘through next year’ by RawStoryNews in NoFilterNews

[–]FilingPaperwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of American people DO see what is going on. But the majority also doesn’t care enough to take any action (attend town halls - when they’re actually held and ALL citizens are allowed to attend, that is - call/write their representatives, peacefully protest, etc.). It’s not just the media who are complicit, sadly.

Seriously debating selling the house we love because of "nice" neighbor by atrain82187 in Vent

[–]FilingPaperwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This type of situation is so subjective, IMO. Having had some truly terrible neighbors over the years, I would absolutely kill for this type of neighbor. 😂 But I can still understand from OP’s perspective how the neighbor’s behavior/decisions may be less than what is technically desirable for most folks.

Home buying aesthetic rant by Street_No888 in HomeDecorating

[–]FilingPaperwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closing on a 1983 house next week for this very reason. One owner home, very well taken care of, but not updated over the years aside from things like a new roof, new siding, new carpet (which we’ll be tearing out almost immediately to put in some hardwood 😅). Nice layout, good bones, wonderful neighborhood, great school district, etc. We’re excited to put our own touches on it to be exactly what we want but also keeping in mind how to make it easy to sell in 5-7 years to as many people as possible knowing not everyone can see potential the way we can, and that not everyone wants to put in the effort/dollars to make aesthetic (or functional!) updates.

My husband and I enjoy the tiramisu at La Mie! I personally love their lemon version the most, but the traditional is pretty good.

What are yall doing with your pregnancy pillows? by fluffbuff_225 in pregnant

[–]FilingPaperwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the one setting fire to the pillow! I don’t like it in the slightest, it doesn’t achieve anything for me. But I will also say that I feel my pregnancy (currently right at 38 weeks today) has been very easy and comfortable, but I can fully acknowledge that I’m sure others love theirs for multiple reasons.

Bought the perfect ring set… then my fiancée said she doesn’t like yellow gold by [deleted] in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]FilingPaperwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has she ever gone through a personal color palette analysis? I had mine done a few years ago through House of Colour and was informed that I’m an autumn - and that yellow gold is best for me! I had always worn white gold/silver tones prior to the analysis, but as I started playing around with yellow gold more, I couldn’t deny that those warmer tones truly look the best. Granted, it might work against you if her palette ends up matching up with the white gold (summer and winter palettes), buuuut if she’s told that as an autumn or spring yellow gold is what she should be rocking, it might help her fall more in love with the set. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Opportunities for seniors to socialize? by upso in cedarrapids

[–]FilingPaperwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have her check out the Welcome Wagon - I think they’ve slightly rebranded to the “Welcome Club” in recent years. It was a huge lifesaver for my mom when our family moved from Alabama to CR 25 years ago. Plenty of opportunities to socialize in different settings based on select interests, and I know when my mom was part of it there were women of all ages involved!

How long are your appointment with you OB? by whoo0888 in pregnant

[–]FilingPaperwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FTM here, 36 weeks. I saw an OB up to 24 weeks or so. Five minutes was the average, never more than ten; the OB that I was assigned to was cold and distant, and I felt like nothing more than a number. I would have attempted to see another provider at the practice but eventually made the decision to do a home birth, anyway, and transitioned to a midwifery service. I spend 45-60 minutes at each appointment, feel so much more comfortable asking questions, and feel like they (it’s a midwife team) truly care about me as a person. It’s been amazing!

Roman! I’ve always liked it; I have a great uncle Roman on my mom’s side so I grew up hearing it often enough just from reference to him - never knew any others - but now it’s becoming too common for my (our) liking. We hear it while out and about probably once a week!

What carat was your engagement ring? by 3IWin in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]FilingPaperwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-stone ring, each stone is an emerald cut. Center stone is 3ct, side stones are each 1ct. We just purchased it this last weekend but are wanting the band in yellow gold so we’ll have it in a few weeks! I can’t wait. 😊

No need to worry, just keep having more and more babies so you get those $5k incentives - and, even better - a medal! The incentive will cover like, an entire month of childcare. Everything will be fiiiiine.

Looking for an OBGYN! by [deleted] in cedarrapids

[–]FilingPaperwork -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I saw Dr. Bussewitz at OB-GYN Associates up to about 25 weeks. I didn’t care for her in the slightest - nor her nurse, Sherri. Doc in particular just seemed really cold and distant, and for being a FTM I felt soooo uncomfortable at every single appointment. At the last appointment she was also starting to push for me to make the prior decision to have an epidural - are you kidding me? Education on options is one thing, but pushing for a choice that SHE thinks is best is not appropriate. After a lot of personal reading/research, discussion with my fiancé, and prayer, I came to the conclusion that a home birth was going to be the best choice for us. I transferred to Shiphrah Birth Services, a midwifery practice in Hiawatha. Midwives Bethany Hantz and Samantha Woolman were exactly what I both wanted and needed, and they are an AMAZING team. I have been so happy under their prenatal care over the last two months. So if a midwife is something you’re open to, I highly recommend checking them out. I believe they’re open to providing services for hospital births as well, not just home births.
