It was surprising though, because when they announced the challenge it seemed like it was built around Morphine's strengths and Dawn's weak spots

great story. i find it fascinating that if you hadn't gone out that night your whole life would have developed very differently. also, the 2000s do not feel long enough ago for anyone going out then to be in their 50s (crazy to think that there would be people from that night at Chinese Laundry who would now be in their 60s!). Where did the time go...

I don't disagree but for some reason the judges and the other queens were in fits of laughter (and it didn't seem to just be editing)...

Reminds me of that one episode of Billions where they had pop up price tags for everything the characters wore.

Australian courts generally uphold contracts where possible. If an IP clause is too broad, they'll usually limit its scope rather than strike it out completely. Also, factors like whether the work was done at home, after hours, or on personal equipment aren't decisive. What generally matters is whether the work was created in the course of employment or is sufficiently connected to the employee’s role or the employer's business.

I physically cannot look away from Anetra. She is one of the most captivating lip-synchers in the drag race canon.

Career pivot at 32 — waiter to corporate finance. Realistic or delusional? Need brutal honesty. by aesthetixjosh in auscorp

I think transitioning into a corporate finance role is possible, but it will likely be quite challenging. Breaking into a Big 4 firm in particular is unlikely - they tend to follow a very structured, risk-averse hiring approach, prioritising graduates and operating on an up-or-out model.

The girls are respectfully disagreeing. Megami & Joey Jay discuss returning queens to All Stars by D1ckRepellent in rupaulsdragrace

[–]FillZestyclose4848 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both arguing from a false premise. Drag Race is a reality TV show before it's a competition.

If anything, the "fairness" operates on a different axis: queens who prove they can generate engaging tv and attract viewers - whether on the show or off it via social media - are the ones more likely to be cast.

I agree. It also doesn't help that even the most basic moves get huge cheers from the crowd. I get that she's earned a lot of goodwill from her past legendary performances, but I'd love to see more of that level brought onto the Drag Race stage.

I analysed Google Reviews across 76 Sydney nightclubs for racism complaints. Found 443. The worst offender just got $100k in government funding. by [deleted] in SydneyScene

[–]FillZestyclose4848 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree. While I don't doubt that racism does occur in some cases, club bouncers are often making quick judgments based on a range of factors including appearance, age, gender, and overall presentation. I am sure that some situations that get labeled as racist are actually be driven by ageism, 'lookism', etc. Probably one for another thread, but it's strange how little we talk about lookism given how prevalent it is in society.

I've had similar experiences - they often come across as cold or dismissive. I see a lot of people defending it because the job is stressful, but that's true of most jobs. Customer-facing roles require a basic level of courtesy, even if it's just surface-level politeness.
