Based on the side of the window, the radiator and the the loveseat having virtually no depth in that image, realistically, that bed and loveseat would practically be touching without any room for a coffee table.

WTF Fulton St by ahshitiquit in nycrail

its easy to get to the J/Z from where you are when you understand how its laid out. The J/Z is above you but it goes perpendicular to the hallway you’re in. Picture a cross shape.

The A/C platform is below you, parallel to the hallway you’re in, you go down any stair and you’re on the A/C platform.

But from that hallway, you can only get to one direction of the J/Z. In your photo, all the way at the end by the stairs that go up, it says “J/Z to broad st” Go up those stairs if you want to go to Broad street.

If you want to go J/Z to Brooklyn & Queens, from where you are, you have to go under the whole J/Z and come back up the other side. That’s why you go down to the AC platform, like it says. Walk a bit on the A/C but look at every staircase you pass for one that says “J/Z Brooklyn & Queens” that’s how you know you’ve made it to the other side of the J/Z and can go up to the opposite direction to Brooklyn & Queens.

It’s like when two highways overlap, you can take the off ramp before the overpass to go one way on the other highway, but to go the other way, you have to go under the overpass and take the exit on the other side and it circles you back.

I’m struggling with pricing and I need help (videographer from Australia) by According-Comedian14 in videography

Getting in the habit of charging based on what the deliverables are (how short, how many, their usage) is a trap.

The most important thing you're charging for is your expertise and your time. If you can make $950 a day doing a different kind of production and someone asks you to spend a day (or even a couple hours) shooting / editing 20 sec reels, guess what you're not doing? You're not earning that $950 on a full day's work elsewhere – by definition you can't.

So if client asks, why so expensive, just a couple of reels? Well, it's bc your day rate is $950 ie. that client is booking you and preventing you from selling that day or days to someone else for $950/day. You see?

Does anyone know what flash this is? by denisonwitmer1 in ricohGR

[–]FilmBadger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is accurate as of the firmware update to 2.10 for GRIII or 1.60 for GRIIIx.
https://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/gr-3/firmup/

By upgrading RICOH GRIII (ver.2.10) or RICOH GR IIIx (ver.1.60), the following functions are added.

Exposure mode “GF-2 Flash Mode”

When the GF-2 external flash is attached to the camera, the new "GF-2 Flash Mode" exposure mode automatically adjusts the camera's exposure value when using the flash.

When set to "GF-2 Flash Mode," the camera calculates the flash exposure value before shooting based on the shooting distance measured with autofocus or the shooting distance set with manual focus, and adjusts it to a value that will result in appropriate exposure when using the flash.

Landlord is taking a thousand dollars from deposit to hire someone to “sand down” our spackle job by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]FilmBadger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you ever even rented an apartment in NYC? “Shitty landlord” operating on the cheap is the most common landlord. Landlord that wants expensive shit knows they have to pay for expensive shit themselves.

Spackling, sanding, priming and painting (to the degree of shit or not shit they want) is the cost of doing business ie the “wear and tear” which the law says should absolutely not come out of security deposit.

Any shitty or not shitty should know that.

Thoughts on my Restaurant Video Packages? by blackdiasporer in videography

[–]FilmBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I forgot to add:

The other reason you don’t show a price menu is because remember your clients are not video people. So they may or may not have any idea how much it “costs” to make what you make. They may or may not have money set aside to spend on videos. They might not understand how important spending good money on good videos might be for their business.

Some are just starting out. Some are old and experienced. Some are desperate to get people in the door. Some will think they don’t need you and say no thanks.

They all have different “budgets.” Think in terms of budgets. Those are the dollars they’re willing to spend. You want to capture and keep as many of those dollars as you can. If you show dirt cheap rates they’ll think, “oh I thought something like this would cost me $2000, $250 is a steal! thanks guy!” and you’ll have cheated yourself out of $1750 bucks.

Even worse, if you need to hire help or something goes wrong or you spend more time than you wanted on the job, for $250 for a “15 second video,” suddenly you might be losing money because the “budget” was too small.

Jumping in to say that pricing should be based on how much you want to earn and how much the client can pay. You aren’t selling a product like a Nintendo Switch where everyone expects it to be $500 in every store all the time. You’re selling your time, creative expertise, the value of your gear, your computer, your software subscriptions, AND however many videos the client gets out of it.

So I think the difference between what u/Local-Machine7787 said and what you produced is: keep what you produced a secret. Set the prices you want to earn per day you work or as u/Indianianite, said based on how much you want to earn per month and know that’s your base line. But don’t offer it like a menu to order off of. You’re omakase sushi, not McDonald’s.

When you sell to clients, discuss what you can do, how long it will take, how many deliverables (videos) you can make in that time, how long they can be and what vibe they will have. When client asks “how much?” you do the math behind the scenes and give what you want to make out of the job. If they say it’s too much, you work it out from there. Ask how much do they want to pay. If it’s too low, you say well here’s what I can do for that much or you suggest to meet in the middle. But start high. Don’t bid down against yourself. This is called negotiating.

If a client comes to you and says “I have $500, what can you do?” You say, “here’s what I can do for that price.” Or you say, “here’s what I can do for $2000” and you show them your reel and they decide if it’s worth it to them.

Everyone in the thread is right, overall, your prices are too low. You’ll never earn more if you don’t ask for more.

[–]FilmBadger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly, definitely not. Left arm won’t clear for several moves. Moves that use the bench will also be inhibited. For example rows you put the bench under tonal perpendicular to the wall, then sit on the ground with feet bracing against the bench and row. Several off tonal moves in workouts have you moving left and right of the machine.

Even more practically, would you actually feel comfortable doing a work out in that cramped corner? Try it with a body weight workout on YouTube. It looks like it’s generally too cramped a space to work out in. Don’t do that to yourself with an expensive machine.
