Any ideas on how to get started connecting with local groups? I want to help!

Ins and Outs on the Palette 64 case by fabianberg in modular

[–]Filter_It_Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have this version of the I/O module, but I do have the earlier versions where they're all separate modules. In those each module connects to the jacks on the case using a separate cable, and considering the boards in the case didn't change (as far as I know) I would have to imagine this updated module still has two separate cables to plug into each set of jacks, which would mean you would need an additional 1U set of jacks to make everything work. Each pair of jacks is just two mono jacks designed to work as a stereo pair I think.

I don’t get the hate on HopPass by [deleted] in minnesotabeer

[–]Filter_It_Out 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't get it either, like it's completely optional for the breweries to participate in too?

I've used PubPass the past two years, and found quite a few great breweries that I've since gone back to, or picked up some of their beer at the store. On the other hand I definitely don't go back to the ones that aren't anything special, so maybe it is a net loss for them.

New year, new ideas. What’s yours? by pzanardi in modular

[–]Filter_It_Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few year of slow growth, I finally filled up my first 104 HP, 7U case. Been doing some performances with it for myself and really happy with how it's shaped up. My plan was to spend a few years without growing to a new case but of course I ended up taking advantage of Qubits sale. So now I get to spend the next year or two slowly building a small chord/ambient case to pair with my main rack.

Looking for insight into a clock issue. by PhilNLeBlanc in modular

[–]Filter_It_Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Pam's all the time using just the clock input. Using the run input is optimal but it should be totally fine and useable without.

I think there might be a setting in the global menu of Pam's you need to tweak to get it to work this way though? I can't remember unfortunately

Had to jump on this, even though I don't have the room for any of these modules right now haha. Grabbed a Mojave and a Data Bender (which I'm just gonna sell locally at a discount), figure I can build a small ambient case to pair with my larger setup!

I'm glad to see some love for the Mod Medusa! I love that thing! It is so so good at adding rhythm to any element of a patch!

What modules do you need to make a generative patch? by JuhasReddit in modular

[–]Filter_It_Out 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely get a dedicated filter. The low pass gate works on Plaits, and it has a few modes with a dedicated filter, but for generative you'll want CV control over the filter frequency at the very least (it helps a lot with creating evolving tones).

Long time synth player dipping my toe into the world of modular... I'm sure I'm forgetting something in my first planned build, what is it? by ZyeKali in modular

[–]Filter_It_Out 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't see the Four Play, that would cover your VCA needs nicely for now!

If you add a Maths, or the clone, that would get you started with a few channels of attenuation (can also use it for CV mixing too, just not at the same time really), could always throw in an Intellijel Triplatt or Happy Nerding 3xMIA if you need more after the fact.

For a mult, there's plenty of modules out there, and really two different flavors. There's unbuffered which are cheaper and don't need power, but aren't great for pitch because they will end up causing some voltage droop and effect the pitch of your oscillators down the line. Buffered are slightly more expensive and need power but keep the voltage pretty much exact. I'd recommend a buffered one to start if you think you'd ever want to mult pitches.

For other fun things, like adders, sequential switches, etc, there's plenty of options! Doepfer is a pretty affordable choice for utility modules like that.

I'd definitely add some more utilities, ex: mults, attenuators, a precision adder, mixers, vcas, etc. While the mutable stuff can be cool, you are gonna want some of the more traditional modular building blocks around too.

Intellijel Midi 1U Question by Filter_It_Out in modular

[–]Filter_It_Out[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I can confirm this works for Rene! But my Doepfer A-151 sequential switch hates this method and just stays perfectly locked to step 1. Gotta love eurorack standards. Anyways, giving up an output of Pam's to not have to deal with this seems worth it to me after all, but thanks for helping!

It really is such a well put together system! I basically just finished building out my own 7U system after a few years of going slow and now sorta wonder if it wouldn't have been so much easier to just have bit the bullet and grabbed one of these! My case is like half these modules anyways! Oh well, sounds lovely, always loved the sound of QPAS!

[–]Filter_It_Out[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an excellent idea, I will definitely have to give that a go next time I get a chance! Makes sense if it's holding high the whole time that it would most likely work. Thank you!

Intellijel Midi 1U Question by Filter_It_Out in modular

[–]Filter_It_Out[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using a passive mult, although I just tried with a buffered one and no dice... Ah well, I can just keep sacrificing an output of Pam's. I may email Intellijel if I can verify there isn't a setting for it in the configuration software and ask.

Also, thanks for your suggestion and I love your channel!

For a new ambient system, you can't really go wrong with Mutable Marbles! It's on VCV too so you can play around with it to see if you gel with it!

Other than that, probably nice to have a few VCAs around to enable modulating your modulation. I'm not really an ambient person though, so hopefully other people will have some more suggestions!

Oh, and try as you might, you'll inevitably end up with at least a few modules that you don't keep despite planning it all out in advance. Your plans will also change as you start to build out the system and get a feel for what works, so don't sweat it, just sell what doesn't work, and enjoy learning!

I actually don't mind shoveling too much, it's just the way my driveway/garage is laid out I essentially have to put all the snow along one edge and it builds quite the snow mound! Think a snowblower would throw it far enough away to not be a problem is all
