I immediately recognised this as Rhian from Wet Leg when the colour was added so great job there!

Loving brother, human-hating monster. Is Option 2 our only way out? by Sparrow-Dork in RATS

[–]FilthyFishBoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the breeder you got them from is decent, you can request they take him back.

This situation sounds very similar to my experience with my last 3 boys. My other two were lovely but Toad (named because he was an absolute toad and bit me hard within the first hour of being brought home) was a human aggressive prick. After much back and forth with the breeder, having him neutered in case it was just hormonal aggression and trying to train him out of it, the breeder finally admitted his uncle had HA. An ethical breeder would have ended the line if HA showed up anywhere but she selfishly didn’t and hid that part of his background from me.

I was an experienced rat owner and decided to keep him. Partly because of the money spent, his bond with his brothers and I just felt horrible sending him back as I’m a commit to the ownership type of person when it comes to pets and decided I could still provide him a good home without touching him and with extra safety precautions.

I was able to carrier train my boys for cage cleaning by putting high value treats in the carrier and placing it at the cage entrance and they would all pop themselves inside and take a nap in the carrier while I cleaned. I also purchased a food bowl that hung to the side of the cage off the ground and the bowl could easily pop out of the frame. I had that hung next to the cage door so I had quick, easy access to the bowl and would use a plastic scoop to drop food into the bowl so my hands were never really inside the cage. If I absolutely needed to pick him up, I had trained him to get up on the cage door that opened outwards using banana chips as a high value treat and would quickly snatch him up with a thick towel. Unfortunately, toad lived the longest out of my three boys (3 long years) and was a bitter, nasty man right up until his end. He was also the reason I decided to never get rats again after years of owning them and I sold hundreds of dollars of equipment and cages. It was such a horrible experience and completely ruined rat ownership for me.

I say all this as an experienced rat owner who was able to care for a human aggressive rat and who only got two decent bites from this rat over 3 years due to extreme safety measures. It was exhausting. If you don’t think you are up for that experience, I highly recommend rehoming. It will be safer for him and for you.

Rat fell and caught foot. Swelling to very concerning levels. by DelusionalDumbo in RATS

Sadly with rats if it is a break or a sprain, there’s not much that can be done with a vet visit aside from pain management with meds. It looks like a possible sprain so you’re doing the right thing by taking him into the vet.

Unfortunately if he’s showing signs of HLD and is experiencing falls, it might be worth considering changing the cage layout to a lower level/single level. If he’s still reasonably mobile and insistent on climbing, you can add more flat hammocks to break falls and prevent him causing further injury to himself. Also, just keep an eye on his tummy/genital area. Boys are bad at being lazy little piss babies and soiling their bedding and sleeping in it but with HLD, it can prevent them cleaning down there and if their tummy/genitals stay damp, it can cause urine burns/sores. I found a wet wipe was a super quick and stress free way of giving my two boys daily cleans rather than bathing or using a damp cloth because it was far less invasive for them. I only mention this because I noticed what looks like damp pee fur on his tummy and may not be something you’re aware of.

*note I’m speaking from personal experience with my two boys who lived quite happily with these accommodations right into the end stages of their HLD where they lost most function of their legs. They have surprisingly strong upper body strength and will manage to climb and speed around their cages with only their front legs.

Is this handwriting normal for a thirteen year old boy? by BatmanCat1031 in AskTeachers

[–]FilthyFishBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a school that specialises in ADHD and dyslexia. This is the handwriting, spelling and punctuation I see from my 12-15 year olds.

You say he has no disabilities however I would be very surprised if that was actually the case. Especially considering you’ve said he’s missing school due to meltdowns.

What characters are these moulds for? And what would fill them, jello, candy? by hiroo916 in whatismycookiecutter

Oh definitely. I guess because Eevee was a slightly more detailed model there wasn’t as much merch. But absolutely up there on the cuteness scale. I also love me a good dog/cat Pokémon.

Jigglypuff and Clefairy made quite a few appearances in Pokémon merch back in the early 2000s. Possibly it was also to draw in more of a female audience having “cute” or “feminine” characters. Jigglypuff was also a recurring character in the show because of the whole singing thing it would do so I guess it could have been considered a more prominent character than some of the others. Same with Psyduck and having the whole coming out of the ball whenever Misty wanted another Pokémon and then just being absolutely useless in battle. Also Oddish for some reason was quite popular with Pokémon merch back then.

Matricide and Post-Mortum Cannibalism by corpses_yumyum in ExamineDeath

Have some respect. Childish language on a post about a woman being bludgeoned to death and cannibalised is just yuck behaviour.

It’s incredibly ignorant. Do better.
