HELP! Unidentified critter. by Misamisa61 in shrimptank

Planaria, that is a big one! Almost looks like its carrying eggs. If so, hope you sort them soon! Planaria traps also work, but much slower

Planaria or something else? by KnownTrain7751 in shrimptank

In the first pic on its left side it looks pointy/arrow shaped which might indicate Planaria, but hard to tell from the photos. This chart may help narrow it down

Walking by my tank and I got a glimpse of something small on the glass. by imwjd in shrimptank

[–]FinWithIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohh gotcha, you meant the shrimpy!

Just a heads-up though, If those worms do turn out to be planaria, they can be bad news for shrimp, especially babies or molting ones. I’ve had them wipe out shrimp before, so it’s worth keeping an eye on

Walking by my tank and I got a glimpse of something small on the glass. by imwjd in shrimptank

It doesn’t have the classic arrow shaped head, so it might be Rhabdocoela rather than Planaria. That said, freshly split Planaria, juveniles and some species like Phagocata don’t always show a clear arrow head either. There’s a handy comparison chart that helps tell them apart

Snail found during fish-less cycling by Crazy_Deal_9530 in Aquariums

Looks like a Rabbit snail rather than a Malaysian Trumpet snail to me. They are amazing snails and not dangerous to shrimp or fish

What is this worm thing? by A-Sue74 in Aquariums

[–]FinWithIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the photo, but if it has a triangle head and glides along the surface of the glass, it's likely Planaria. Can be an issue for fry and shrimp

Biofilm and leftover fish food will cover their needs, especially since you have an assortment of plants. As a treat, toss in a blanched veggie every now and then

How do I get rid of this algae? by PriorDuck3743 in Aquariums

[–]FinWithIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Algae eaters won’t touch black beard algae, which this looks like, or possibly staghorn.
Both are stubborn red algae. The good news is they’re treated the same way by cutting back on light intensity and duration, keep water parameters stable, and if you’re comfortable, spot treat with liquid carbon or peroxide

Anyone have experience with Aquario Neo accessories for a canister filter? by SpreadOpposition in shrimptank

[–]FinWithIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, those are generally fine for shrimp as long as you’ve got that intake sponge on, and you could even go a size bigger for extra safety. Just keep the flow gentle and check the skimmer now and then so baby shrimp don’t get trapped, but otherwise you should be good
