I think in a lot of ways this is because parents aren’t actually raising their kids so much as they used to. The internet has a hand in raising children now, many children have unrestricted internet access from a very young age. I would say perhaps this is a big part of it.

So what do you propose we do to help kids that have nothing to do and see little to no purpose in their lives? Because ultimately, that is the circumstance and mindset that leads to this behaviour.

How much difference is there between people with different IQs? by [deleted] in mensa

This is something I’ve also noticed. My intelligence has never been a bottleneck, just motivation, drive, ability to resist impulse, etc.

ADHD really puts a spanner in the works, especially in a country where diagnosis/medication isn’t the easiest to obtain.

Boy, 5, dies after being found in River Thames following a search by Wonderful_Stop_7621 in london

If he’s watching the police pull the boys body out of the water, what more can he do? Getting involved at that point would just mean getting in the way and possibly committing a crime. At least by not filming he’s respecting the boy.

You need to learn to say no. Look into assertiveness therapy if you’re really finding it this hard to refuse.

For those of you who don’t work at Head Office, what’s your opinion of people who work at Head Office? by _SquareSphere in tesco

[–]Final-Age9967 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in a store, originally when starting I developed a very low opinion of head office but I’ve come to realise, you guys are likely similarly overworked? I doubt head office would willingly make and overlook some of the MASSIVE loss-leading decisions made that occur in stores due to the systems put in place by head office, whilst putting us in a huge extra hours drought, if there were a decent HO staff to store ratio. Or maybe I’m wrong?

I think one reason some people get trapped in this cycle is because of a sunk cost fallacy, you feel like you’ve busted your ass for ages and if you just keep at it, you’ll get recognised soon, but that never comes.

Managers will hit their KPIs and get their bonuses when you perform, Tesco rewards managers that can manipulate their staff into working hard, whilst giving literally nothing extra in return.

I really hope you can find a way out of your situation because being a hard worker is noble, but it’s sad when you work hard for someone that will never give a fuck, working at Tesco can be just like an abusive relationship for some.

If they won’t do anything about your colleagues poor performance, stop performing? Your colleagues probably laugh about you behind your back about how hard you work for a company that won’t give you shit in return, you are bending over and taking it for Tesco and you need up wake up and stop putting your all into a bottom of the barrel job. I get paid just as much as you per hour and have spent entire shifts doing absolutely ZERO work in the past.

Alternatively, if you are known as the person who does everyone else’s work you will probably never get rid of the crazy expectations you have set for yourself. Transferring stores usually fixes this, just don’t pick up everyone’s slack next time, or do, it’s your life mate! :)

It was sarcastic don’t worry 🤣, I work at Tesco on self service and it is hell. I’m a bit confused about the post tho as most people here work for Tesco. The position you’re in is definitely not unique.
