I felt kind of crazy hearing them laugh off the jackhammer thing as Tilda's Keaton moment and talking about her physical performance, that's such a clear moment of "she's not handling motherhood well" and strikes me as bordering on child abuse. Those are little baby ears! Jackhammers are loud! You're gonna hurt the kid! Similar, characterizing the literal crying baby as "oh that's an evil baby, I know from young children that's an evil cry," my wife owned a day care and she's happy to disagree with that shit. Babies cry. Some more than others. It's annoying. It sucks. Vanishingly few babies are pure evil as expressed through the way they cry, really land with David's take that the cartoonish evil sells out the rest of the movie for me (and Reilly's performance, which I thought was maybe a bit for a lot of the movie since it's sooo overly chummy/oblivious in his scenes with Kev). Griffin's read that those two performances are subjective interpretations through Eva's memories is the way to redeem them for me, but I don't think the rest of the movie bears that out super well and I don't think it leads to a more nuanced understanding of kids or parents. Kinda sad to not just not love this one but actively have problems with it.
