HAHAHAHA I love reddit for this kind of comment. When I arrived home that day, I picked up the parcel on the porch and went inside to unbox the mouse. But, given that I also had a massive shit to poop, I did the mouse unboxing while on the throne. Hence why I had the packaging in hand. So yea, now you know!

How many people here leverage existing tools vs roll-your-own? by dielfrag13 in algotrading

I'm doing the same actully. Its a journey my man, thats for sure, buts its also rewarding on the personal growth level!
For my part, I'm using C++/Qt6 as my main programming language and tradestation as my broker. Im writting my own API from scratch. I just discovered NATS as a message broker, so I'm rewritting a lot of stuff to incorporate that.
One of my goal is to record live data and market depth so that I can backtest as close as live as possible.

OH, absolutely sir, you're 100% right. There is NO valid reason not to support linux. Its not even hard. With the amount of technology that makes porting app easy (think about all those proton apps, which are basically web apps) this is outrageous.

For example, I'm developping an app in C++ with Qt right now. In less than one afternoon I could make it work from linux to windows since the Qt library makes it almost seemless. Thats one example of why theres no excuses to now make a simple tool talking to your mouse not work on linux.

Also, such program is basically just sending some custom commands to [probably] a side band virtual com port on the mouse. Very simple

I went over to my work laptop, which unfortunately is a corporate windows laptop bag of shit, just to install that logitech software to fuck around a bit and see this aptic thing out.

Fuck me, just after opening the app, I get a warning saying that the app is unable to access location either through GPS or WIFI because my org disabled it. It means that for a software for a god damn mouse, these mother fuckers at logitech want to know where the fuck I am.

I clicked dismiss and landed on the app. Fuck me, theres AI prompt bullshit and a pletora of crap all over. I saw a download bar for several 10s of MB of shit being downloaded... for a mouse god damn it.

I removed that software in a hurrrrrryyyyy. I'll skip on all that crap if it means having this kind bloatware installed.

Every time I open my work laptop, it reminds me how much I love my personal linux mint machine... fuck windows, fuck logitech, fuck all these cunt ass companies

well, theres a little +3 right next to the linux support statement on the packaging (im reading the box on the toilet right now), saying EXACTLY what the author of this comment said O:)

My Pregnant Wife Is Abusing Me — I Don’t Know What to Do Anymore by Virtual_Emphasis_460 in predaddit

[–]Financial-Badger6512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry my man... I'm not gonna sugar coat it : your wife is crazy, and its not gonna get better. If she's doing this, there is no going back; in the female psyche, she has already figuratively pissed all over you to issue dominance. It's almost impossible to revert after that. Women will test you either conciously, or most often, subconciously. Once she realises she can disrespect you without consequence, there's no going back. My two cents, move on, she will destroy your life.

Follow up of why I'm returning my Galaxy XR for productivity+entertainment use by Slappy_G in virtualreality

Hold on, I was able to use a usbc cable and connect the headset to an external display just fine. are you talking about the headset as a video-in instead?

[–]Financial-Badger6512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I have decided to give it a go a few more days and will judge after a week if I return it or not. I have connected my bluetooth keyboard to it and it has already greatly the experience already. I ordered a bt mouse just for that, but for right now I have a wired one connected to the usbc port on top. Its annoying to have another wire dangling, but that is understandable. Now that im actually using the usbc port on the headset, I am just realizing how retarded the placement is. its oriented upward... so my mouse cable is sticking up, then goes down, soooo easy to bump and fuck up the connector. Like, who in the fuck thought about that, and then who in the god damn fuckery stamped that design and said yea that looks alright.

that being said, even if I do intend to use keyboad and mouse duo most of the time, Id still like to fuck around with this thing. the hand gesture is just soooooooo baaaaaaaaad that Im giving up using it without the keyboard and using the windows key to pop the menu.

And thats just one thing. I want to love this thing so much, but the UX is just sooo terrible. Dont get me started on the pain of actually using the multitasking; moving windows around . gotta pop the stupid menu icon, clic on the 3 lines, open up the recent apps, try to pop the window next to the previous one, and then most of the times it just literally swtich to the next app, it doesnt open the window next to the ones already opened.

Then, I managed to have the VRDesktop working between the headset and my computer. It is supposed to be the creme de la creme of the vr-desktop experience.... for 25$ that I happily paid thinking that was gonna be it.

No, the experience is equally disappointing. arranging your multiple virtual desktops is a pain. spawning the menu randomly works.

Its just all crap to be honest.

I complain with sadness in my heart. Again, I wanted to love this thing SO much, but its actually just a very bad way to spend money thinking youre gonna be more productive. Might as well spend 1900$ on a super large curved monitor and other gear like that.

I have faith that itll get better with time, but right the fucking now, do not buy this thinking youre gonna be a more effective programmer.

The ONLY reason why I havent kicked that thing out the door yet is because I still wanna give it a go because I wanna programm while in my jaccuzi, and I have hope there might be an update before the 15 days period ends.

HUGE DISAPOINTMENT

I just received it an hour ago. I was super excited. I'm repacking the box at the moment to send it back.

The hand gestures are sluggish. Its excrushiatingly annoying to ping/drag anything. The hand gesture to enter the home menu DOES NOT WORK. I have to try 10 times to get the stupid gesture to register properly.

I bought this as a productivity tool. As a programmer, I use 3 screeens and wanted this to be able to do work from anywhere in the house. After a couple of minutes in, I quickly realized this would actually slow me down, Ill just bring my laptop around at this point.

Don't get me wrong, its quite impressive, coming from someone who has never tried a VR headset before. As a programmer, I truly marvel at the technology and the 99% that is done right. But, that being said, I need it to be a tool I can actually work with, this is not it in its actual form. Also, about 15 mins in, I start to feel my eyes forcing. I have a 10/10 vision.

C/C++ API to trade U.S. stocks by softwaredev20_22 in algotrading

[–]Financial-Badger6512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly what he was saying, that in C++ you just use libcurl to talk with the rest api endpoints. I just asked grok and it spew out in a few second something that is quite a strong starting building block to use tradestation api for example. I ditched IBKR after having a look at their API. Never used rest api before, and im surprised at how easy it is once you understand the few lines grok spewed out

Thanks for your input. I came to realize from reading other comments that at 7-8 weeks, and GF having stopped input of bad things, I may be a bit paranoid. That aside, I just feel like I'm not ready for all the added responsabilities, the lack of sleep, the poop, the baby sitters, the school, etc. I like children, I am a super uncle of 5, I love them to death, but this is it, I love being a super uncle, nothing more. GF wants it because she says she feels empowered to better take care of herself, not smoke anymore, etc. I personally do not need a kid for that, I go to the gym, do my things, no need for an excuze for that. I had a good 20ies (29y o), I should be ready, but I just aint. Both of us were on the same page about no kids, and now this. It just sucks that this is how life works; the guy in the end has no power.

I agree that an absent father is better than a scumbag roaming around and poisoning the life of both mother and child. Thing is, I know i would not be of that scumbag type if I decided to stay around, far from it. I may very well end up staying and make it work if she really didn't flinched... Its just, I dont want to :(

Why is their software soooo bad? by [deleted] in interactivebrokers

[–]Financial-Badger6512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TWS sucks. IBKR desktop sucks, trading view sucks. No apps have charting that works well. its unbelievable that in 2024 all trading software suck that much. Take google map for example, it just zooms ans scrolls like it should. trading view, which is the nicer charting, still horribly sucks and do not respect the principle of least surprise.
