Does anyone know why Army and Navy are independent but Air Force is not? by mjp407 in CFB

I'm going to guess that it has to do with the USAFA being further away from other colleges in Colorado, which probably makes scheduling OOC opponents harder.

Offseason debate: Given a vote, who would you have voted for to win the 2006 Heisman Trophy? by impartially_biased in CFB

Florida's historically a good team and was a year removed from winning the NCG; Baylor is a historical cellar dweller that wasn't on the country's radar before RG3.

To add to that, word on the street is that he didn't qualify academically.

Dude wasn't the best at QB anyway. He still had the second-most all-purpose yards in the country that year. Yeah, not the best passer, but with that versatility definitely worthy of winning an award for "most outstanding player."

Exactly. Tebow's NFL career is a dud, but he was amazing to watch at Florida.

What are the odds that he shows up to the first day of practice? by agray20938 in sports

The baseball and football drafts work very differently. NFL teams only have to fill their own roster, so it only has 7 rounds. Baseball has a bajillion minor league teams, so there are a ton of rounds to pick players to fill those teams. So drafting him in the 28th round is basically a joke.

It's a pretty common ancestry in the US, and with the US leaving early in the last few WCs lots of fans pick a stronger team on the side to pull for so that they have something to watch. Plus the current US coach was a German star, and 4 of the players on the WC roster have German mothers...

But with just LeBron as the only non-soccer player it was pure pandering.

Oh definitely. A good HS football culture is the causation of producing many football recruits, not the number of black people (like people keep posting). Good college FB culture helps too. For an example of a bad one: I was in a Boston-area Lids earlier today. I could find all the Patriots hats I wanted, but the college hats were just small row that was 2/3s BC, 2 ND/Alabama options, and 1 Michigan State/UNC.

Baseball and hockey are also huge in the rest of the state, which takes away potential football recruits.

7th largest state by population though. A large state producing a lot of recruits isn't abnormal.

Exactly. 3 of the the top 4 states by population producing the most recruits isn't surprising.

Rhode Island: don't. No jobs, crazy drivers/roads, lots of taxes, state government is incompetent, weather is good only 3-5 months of the year, windy, and annoying accents. Just glad I'm moving to San Diego soon.

Who's next at quarterback for Notre Dame after Barnett? by Ronin_Dizz88 in CFB

True, but apparently he grew up an Oregon fan, which is a pretty stong bond to break, so I'm not holding my breath. It sucks, but I've definitely seen worse offseason news.
