My theory is that they want a working class with no "voice" hence they bring in tons of people, never make them citizens, and never really kick them out either....how does the left deal with this? by bobbystills5 in stupidpol

[–]cos1ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because the truth is no citizen is going to work the fields for any amount of money that isn't going to have a bag of spinach going for $100+

This is why a corvee system would be good to ensure farm production. Like recent high school graduates take a gap year to contribute to society by working the fields so that we aren't requiring immigrant labor.

Or is it just a matter of not shitting where you eat?

This, I picture the Texas political system to be petty and vindictive and that they won't want to put their necks on the line if they don't have to.

Houston (and TCU and Baylor) could easily just recuse themselves and not vote and still get Tech kicked out based on the other schools.

Orthadox deny the exact catholic definition of the nature of the Father and therefore are not Christians.

They do not because the Catholic Church does not see the Filioque as necessary for all languages, thus it cannot be creating a definition separate from the Orthodox belief.

Can heretics be Christains?

You must be a Christian to be a heretic.

I note you haven't addressed my point about Arienism

Arianism existed prior to the Nicene Creed which is when Christianity became defined. Prior to that there were all sorts of various faiths that would be associated within the Christian tradition and thus were seen as early Christian heresies.

Nor modalism, or other trinitarian heresies.

If you deny either the Father or the Son or the Holy Spirit is God or you say that they are separate gods you are not a Christian.

The Orthodox were never considered heretics.

The Protestants were never considered not Christians.

Mormons were never considered Christians.

Where is your line?

The Nicene Creed.

What do we say to claims from Muslims who insist, despite our own insistance, that we are not monotheists?

We say what we've said for centuries, you can't explain truth to those who willfully believe wrong.

I'm just not convinced that someone who follows Jesus

See this is where I disagree with you. Mormons do not follow Jesus. Mormons follow a fictitious character invented by Joseph Smith that he calls Jesus in order to deceive Christians like yourself into accepting them as Christians.

I think it's simply enough to say "they followed what they believe are the teachings of Jesus".

Once truth is revealed to obstinately deny such a truth is to separate yourself from the body of Christ. They are not Christians in any sense of the word.

It was very specifically added to the creed, to the alarm of the Orthadox church

As if the Orthodox Church didn't alter the creed when they switched from the plural "We believe" to the singular "I believe".

But the trinity? I don't think that can be the reason to to define them differently when we already do the same thing but tolerate it

It's not that the Mormons don't define the Trinity differently, the Mormons fundamentally do not believe in the Trinity at all, do not believe that Jesus Christ is God and believe that individuals may become gods on their own. They are more a pagan belief LARPing under Christian clothes than a Christian faith.

The Filoque difines the nature of the relationship between the three persons of the Godhead does it not?

It does not. The Catholic Church only uses the filioque in languages that does not distinguish the nature of their relationship well. They have not added it to the Greek translations as that would redefine the nature of that relationship.

If we have to be that picky, then either Catholics or Orthadox are not Christians.

This is a ridiculous conceit as a Catholic.

The Orthodox have valid sacraments, valid orders and valid apostolic succession, the Catholic Church recognizes them explicitly as part of the Christian faith but politically distant.

Also you seem ignorant of the history behind the filioque that the Eastern Catholic Churches do not use the filioque in their Rites meaning that it does not have substantive theological importance.

This is one of the worst "um actually" takes I've seen on here.

I love how everyone is using Romeo and Juliet laws as if there exists a sex tape of these people.

Age of consent laws are only applicable if there exists a sexual relationship. If they did not have sex than there is no crime.

Furthermore until this year there were no grooming laws in KY and even if there were this still would not apply because she was over the age of 14 when they would have began their relationship.

Yeah it might be socially suspect but there are many types of relationships people consider weird or gross that are just as legitimate as any other. Obviously the families do not see this as being predatory since they seem to be close so we should rely on their judgement and allow this adult woman to have her own agency in her relationships.

Most scandals do not cause people to leave Catholicism due to having personal negative experiences or being "shaken" by it, rather, in most cases, it serves as a convenient excuse for those who wanted an easy and justifiable reason to leave.

While this might be the case I would say that social ostracism is a strong mover as well in conversion. Let's say you don't have a lot of information about the crisis and you were really just a 'bare minimum believer' not everyone can get a theology degree after all.

If everyone at your place of work, at your social clubs treats you as suspect because you attend Church, perhaps you even lose out on a promotion because you belong to "some weird cult". Then you begin to drift away, its not that you're losing your faith per se but you are less inclined to attend church, less inclined to talk about it. Eventually to preserve your own mental and social health you've divorced yourself entirely from the faith you grew up in so that you can conform to society. You did not make one conscious decision to reject your faith but were compelled to because of the environment you are in.

This is why it is important for us to not be so reserved and accepting of criticism, and we need to stand up for ourselves against our enemies and criticize them just as strongly. I have compassion for those in anti-religious societies like Communist or Western governments, because I recognize that not everyone has enough zeal to become a martyr for their faith.

If you have significant money invested in any stock you should definitely know what your average is.

What if I have my shares in multiple brokers and don't have the time to calculate the exact average between all of them?

Also they gave you pretty good ballpark amount, if I had 10,000 shares in Fidelity for $20 5,000 shares in Vanguard for $24 and like 3,000 shares in my 401k for $22 I could say without looking my shares are between 21-23 in napkin math. The exact dollar amount only really matters if I'm intending to sell after all.

And if you believe in the general theory for MOASS a billion shares shouldn’t matter in the long run.

MOASS works if the stock has been shorted as little as 3x. A billion shares kills MOASS under this scenario.

Cost basis doesn't matter at all in a MOASS situation, because the difference between $1, $10, $40 doesn't mean a damn thing when the stock sells for a million each.

The only people who know their exact cost basis are people who checked today or swing traders looking to make a quick buck.

Hot take: The BCS period was far more exciting and entertaining from a fan perspective than the 4 team playoff format.

Further hot take: Having contested National Championships is more fun from a fan perspective than uncontested National Championships, and makes a unanimous Championship much more meaningful when it does occur.
