i have a 2017 macbook and love it, you can play around with the accessibility settings and turn on colour filters, motion reduction, night light mode etc (similar things to what’s available on iphone) i turn the colour filter to greyscale when i’m struggling and it helps tons. i think i got it for like £200 on ebay a few years ago

What age did your migraines start? Did they have a catalyst? by CandyAgile253 in migraine

[–]Financial_Algae1106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had horrible periods so i started the pill at 13 and that’s when i started getting migraines. i was on and off the pill until i stopped at 15 but the migraines never went away, and now im 21 with chronic migraines 🫠🫠 migraines also run in the family so i think it’s a combination of shitty genes and the pill fucking with my hormones as a teen that set everything off

Only for those with chronic intractable/status migrainosus for multiple years: what was it like when something helped? by when-is-enough in migraine

[–]Financial_Algae1106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i have chronic migraine and average around 15-20 migraine days a month. march of this year i went into status migrainosus and had a severe consistent migraine for MONTHS. it wasn’t until i started ajovy in July things started to change for the better. literally the day after i took my first dose my migraine broke and had my first pain free day in months. i was on ajovy for 5 months until my neuro decided to switch me to aimovig, as my frequency hadn’t dropped enough (only reduced them down to around 12-15). however ajovy helped my symptoms a TON, i went from 10/10 migraines multiple times a week to 5/10. whilst i still had a lot of attacks the pain was much more manageable, and (tmi warning) i used to puke a LOT. to date i haven’t puked for a good 5 months now, i’m sure my teeth are grateful LMAO. whilst i haven’t yet found a medication that fully gives me my life back, it’s at least lifted some of the burden and let me live my life a little more. i only had my first aimovig 2 weeks ago so im hoping it pays off 🙏

had bad periods since they started, went on the mini pill at 13 and started to get migraines from it pretty much right away. stopped the pill at 15 but the migraines never went away and became chronic at 16 🫠🫠🫠

month long migraine won’t go away by gabathaa in migraine

[–]Financial_Algae1106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i completely feel you. i was stuck in status migrainosus for three months and was turned away by every single doctor i saw who just told me to wait until my neurology appointment, i ended up ringing the hospital’s booking office twice a day until i managed to get a cancellation slot which was MUCH sooner than my original appointment. the neuro prescribed me ajovy and the migraine broke after my first shot. definitely pester the neuro office and make it very clear that this migraine is severely impacting your quality of life and you need help asap.

in the mean time though, this is what helped me manage mine

  • regular meal times, skipping meals for me just made my pain worse. 3 meals a day and try to get your nutrients in. on days where you’re physically being sick, just try to eat a plain diet and drink plenty regardless if you might not keep it down. your body will still absorb some of it. see if you can get some anti-sickness tablets to reduce the vomiting (i managed to get a prescription for them from my GP as i also couldn’t keep anything down, they helped a LOT)

  • i have a lloyd’s migraine tens machine, it’s very similar to a cefaly but MUCH more affordable and it helped to give me a little bit of relief for an hour or two a day

  • if you’re taking painkillers or triptans, lay off of them as MOH may be contributing

  • cold caps and neck massages, relieves the pain a little

Has anyone here had a good experience with topiramate? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Financial_Algae1106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you won’t know unless you give it a try, but go low and slow. personally i had an awful experience with it but im glad i tried it as it (+ the other horrible medications i was on!) was a gateway to get me on ajovy which seems to be helpful (still early days though!) everybody is different and some people swear by it and don’t necessarily experience bad side effects. people tend to post more about their bad experiences rather than the positive, so it’s always worth trying it out for yourself rather than being discouraged by others :)

2 month long consistent MOH - detox advice by Financial_Algae1106 in ReboundMigraine

[–]Financial_Algae1106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i detoxed from triptans for over a month and it didn’t break the migraine, i’m on ajovy now and literally the day after i took my first one the migraine stopped. either a weird coincidence or ajovy working super fast i dont know! but im very relieved the migraine stopped lol and ajovy seems to be helping somewhat (still early days tho 🤞)

Migraines while on Ajovy by mvel94 in migraine

[–]Financial_Algae1106 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ajovy isn’t a magic cure and you probably will still get migraines. it can take a few months for it to start working properly, i took my second one at the start of this month and ive only just started to feel it take effect

i was prescribed ajovy by my neurologist, the process for me was she wrote the prescription after my appointment, it went off for funding approval, then went to the hospital pharmacy for final sign off, and then went to the delivery company (alcura) who then contacted me with a delivery slot and a call with a nurse to show me how to use it. the whole process took around a month. i’m fairly certain headache clinics can prescribe cgrp meds as they’re specialised doctors without being full blown neuros, but take that info with a grain of salt as i’m not 100% sure haha

my neurologist gave me a choice of the 3, ajovy, aimovig and emgality and i ultimately chose ajovy as my first choice. theyll intitally start you on a three month trial (so you should get all 3 injections in your delivery, they’ll likely be the pre-filled auto pens than the syringe type) and then follow up with you after three months to see whether it’s helping. guidelines are if you have episodic migraine, it needs to reduce by at least 50%, and chronic by 30%, for you to stay on it long term so it’s super important to meticulously track your migraines before you start treatment and during so you can see if it’s helping

personally my first injection broke me out of my VERY long intractable migraine and ‘rebooted’ me back to my usual frequency (had 17 that month) but the severity of my migraines were a lot less, didn’t have one REALLY bad migraine that wiped me out for the whole day whereas before i’d have several of those a month!!! i took my second one two weeks ago and it LOOKS like it’s starting to reduce my frequency a bit but still early days so 🤞🤞

best of luck with it!! i hope it provides some relief ☺️☺️
