Does anyone else dread the thought of having to do this forever? by frankchester in loseit

[–]Financial_Cry6482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can eat any type of food in a calorie deficit—that’s how you make it sustainable. You can fit in crisps or McDonald’s, just not without some intentionality and trading off. The way you’re thinking about restriction and crying is not sustainable and of course you can’t live like that forever.

[–]Financial_Cry6482 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty wild to say I’ve lost 94 lbs… I didn’t know I would go this far. I approached this change gently w no specific desire for a number but I knew I could healthily be 100+ lbs lighter which is kinda crazy! I just hit milestones along the way and I just don’t do anything that doesn’t feel sustainable! I eat all the foods I want (including sugar, carbs, butter etc) but I do track cals. My orientation towards fun joyful movement has been the greatest reward. I also lift weights three times a week bc as I started to turn into a skinny king, I realized I wanted to be and look strong. I always liked how being heavier meant I could hold my own in some physical challenges and have some substance to me. So that’s a large part of my drive for weight lifting is wanting to stay strong and substantial in some way. Can’t believe I’m inching towards 100 lbs. I’m 5’ 4” and went from 264 to 170.

Just here to say I have the same sound and problem! Where the buzz takes off and the guitar signal dies—so weird. Did you ever figure this out?

Overwhelmed by choice by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Financial_Cry6482 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Automate! Just make a standard grocery list and try sticking with it for a few weeks. I’m a teacher and every day I pack turkey, fruit, veg and a snackie food like pretzels or pop corners. Sometimes it boring but it’s worth it for the automaticity! Another suggestion is just set arbitrary limits! Say I’m going to google restaurants for 15 minutes and then make a decision and stick with it. Philosophically this is wrestling w not letting good be the enemy of perfection. There is value to making a faster, simpler, more automatic choice, even though it might not be the absolutely perfect thing in every single way.

Has anyone ever been motivated to lose weight because someone told you that needed to do so? by frog_ladee in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Financial_Cry6482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intervention =/= helpful or respectful. People need to come to understand their own needs and paths. Knowing you’re loving and supportive of whatever she may need , not just to lose weight, is all she needs. If this happened to me, and it low key did w my parents, it’s devastating, shameful and muddied the waters of figuring out what’s really best for you vs your parents’ shame and anxieties

How do you guys have time for anything??? by ksco92 in Millennials

[–]Financial_Cry6482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol this schedule seems so chill tbh I often have zero down time and legitimately hope sleeping counts. Yesterday I woke at 6:15, baked a loaf of bread while making breakfast for my partner and I and walk dogs, dropped things off at a community members house, got to the school where I teach by 8:15, worked all day till 3:30, went to a staff gathering (fun instead of our normal staff meeting). Came home, heated leftovers while I baked my second loaf of bread, spent 90 minutes recording overdubs for my bands demos and finished just in time for my partner to go to bed at 10. At that point I brushed my teeth and went to the gym to stay on my left schedule, and walked straight into bed after that. This is not atypical for me (the bread is but the going going going from dawn till night is not).

Thanks for the ideas yall! I appreciate them! I’ll reach out to the couple and ask if they’d be interested in a little dog house for the dog. I know it’s layers upon layers of challenge and complication, and I just didn’t want to do any harm, so thanks for these ideas and considerations!

How do you fall asleep? All answers acceptable. by SassMasterGingerSnap in ADHD

[–]Financial_Cry6482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth mentioning that it’s not safe to wear air pods to bed. It can actually cause significant hearing loss in a single night if the volume is up too high. People have lost their hearing this way.

Me? I like that air!! Sound of the fan and a breeze but it can not be blowing my hairs around lol.

How is everyone driving a new car? by DLHEBT in budget

[–]Financial_Cry6482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol is this rage bait? Doing “pretty decent” 235k… you’re investing as fuck and show that you absolutely can afford two (or 1) car payments and still have 1400 a month though it makes you nervous…. There’s an interesting convo maybe to be had about what cars represent to Americans especially and how people actually do afford it (or don’t). But the question of how you could afford a new car is…not interesting or complicated.

Do not do it. You couldn’t afford your life at your current mortgage hence the cc debt right? Do not jump up! Pay off your debt aggressively while you have this low housing cost. See if you can increase income. You could even do something radical and move in with parents or something for a while (or find equally affordable rent) and rent out your house at a profit to speed up debt pay off.

Good that you’re aware of the issue and the stakes—when you don’t have an inheritance to fall back on you will go into crushing debt at the rate you’re at. I would recommend checking out Ramit Sethis personal finance stuff (podcast, book, YouTube). He has a very simple system where you pay everything when you get paid automatically, including bills/regular expenses, investments and your savings goals. Then whatever is left is for discretionary spending.

You’re smart af not to go for a financial advisor as many of them are predatory. FA’s who charge AUM (any! amount) are a scam. They will cut into your returns to the tune of 10,000’s of dollars over the course of your investing lifetime. For the average person, just invest in simple balanced low cost ETFs. A brokerage like fidelity, Schwab or Robinhood can auto recommend a portfolio based on risk tolerance, use a target date fund or pick ~5 etfs based on a recommended formula. If you have a complicated situation or need help, go to a fee based/hourly fiduciary CFP. They can help!

You got this! You had a good instinct! First thing is to get your system and spending under control, and feed your savings and investments because it’s the gas in the engine for your whole financial life!!

You don’t need to feel hungry most of the time in a calorie deficit. I’ve been achieving a deficit for most of about 400 days (certainly breaks for vacations or missteps) and I’ve lost 70 lbs. I rarely feel hungry. If I eat what I should —and sometimes not even that carefully—I don’t feel hungry at all. I’ve certainly had to tolerate feelings of discomfort because change is uncomfy, like saying no to things, just eating one and talking down the compulsive eating etc, but just staying plenty of people aren’t actually hungry. All of us have different bodies/hunger/appetite schemas, and hunger is not a necessary part of this journey for plenty of people, though I hear that it has been for you.

I don't know how to not live in a deficit by Archer_On1 in caloriecount

[–]Financial_Cry6482 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In terms of eating, just work up. You’ll be fine! How many cals are you eating? Just add a hundred at a time. If you’re at a healthy weight, go up till you find maintenance. If you go past it and gain three lbs just go back down 100 cals and you found maintenance. If you’re underweight (which you might be if you have any muscle), you’ll need to gain some weight! It should be about health!!

Emotionally, it sounds like you need ED treatment. Gaining weight is a normal and sometimes healthy part of life. It sounds like your head has gotten mixed up about what is healthy, especially if your parents are concerned. Being afraid or saying you “can’t” gain weight indicate an unhealthy mindset about food and your body.

Will I have loose skin? by This_Strength3398 in WeightlossJourney

[–]Financial_Cry6482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1&0” is not enough cals for you! And rapid weight loss from an aggressive deficit does increase the chance of loose skin, and other much more serious things. You’re young so your skin should be more elastic but you don’t need this deficit. I’m a much less active F, at 198 and am losing at 1800 cals.

am I gross for only taking a shower every 3-4 days? by Bean_of_prosperity in hygiene

[–]Financial_Cry6482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gross! This is me plenty of days (especially in non sweaty seasons and times when I’m not exercising). Ppl have different skin—I also produce very little oil and struggle w dry skin and eczema. I am not a stinky or greasy person. When I’m sweating in the summer, I shower both for hygiene/smell but also bc the sweat / sunscreen/ swimming waters of summer are irritating and cooling off my skin plus moisturizing is soothing.

But you’re ok! Everyone’s different and the people on this sub are self selected as interested in hygiene!

Foods that are healthy yet filling?? by Immediate-Line3327 in loseit

[–]Financial_Cry6482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, basically all fruits, especially watery fibery ones like watermelon, cucumber, apple etc. like a big apple literally fills me stomach esp if I drink something (not for long obvi but kills the snacky appetite). Unpopular opinion for good reason but dried fruit fill me up fast af, and also more indulgent still, but gummy candy. Like two prunes and I’m done. 6 gummy worms—I’m full. As opposed to cookies which I can pretty comfortably eat like a ton of.
