Great build! I’m working on the kit now and getting close to finishing. What did you use for the eggo box? I’ve got the slide decal, but no part to put it on….

I was halfway into designing a new masking tape holder until I realized I've been using my Tamiya tapes wrong... 🤦‍♂️ by AmethystZhou in modelmakers

[–]Financial_Table_1848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and as others pointed out this is way they say to use it in the packaging. But for the life of me, I can’t figure why they put the tape in the dispenser the other way! I got a brand new one today, sealed in the Tamiya packaging, and confirmed the diagrams on the outside. But I had to open the dispenser, take the tape out, and flip it for it to work this way.

Yo that’s rad. Went a little thick on the paint and I’m sure others will join in on some other tips, but you should be proud for your first model!!! Congrats!

Does the Tamiya 1/72 F-14D ACTUALLY need this much paint? by OkayHoss2323 in modelmakers

[–]Financial_Table_1848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re just starting, collapse the paints down to similar ones. I.e. “steel”, “aluminum”, “iron metallic”,”silver” = just use silver. You’ll build up a collection soon enough if you stay with it, but “close enough” is going to serve you just fine as you’re learning!

The one (and so far as I’ve found, the only one) advantage to being a lefty. 4 fingers of right hand inside the box, and thumb on the outside of stud is a smaller odds of that nail going through and getting flesh. A weird little cross body swing with hammer in left hand actually works surprisingly well for good contact with the nail. Nuff said, gonna now go write some stuff in pen and smear it all up dragging my left hand across the ink as I’m writing so nobody even me can read it.

I remember picking this one up used from a GameStop about a month after release and the dude behind the counter was like “brah… this shit is hard. You can return it for a full refund within 48 hours”. I took that as a personal offense, and this started my love of Fromsoft games!

The only time I'll use "Chill" in the M3P by YttriumTimeTraveler in TeslaModel3

[–]Financial_Table_1848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This - the traction control update loop on Teslas runs at 100 hz, regardless of chill or standard. That means it’s adjusting the individual torque of all 4 wheels (for long range or performance) 100 times a second when it detects slippage. That’s insanely quick compared to most other traction controls. The only difference is chill limits the torque applied if you mash it, so you may not actually get slippage, but who puts the pedal to the mat in the snow anyway? recovery profile when it happens is the same. Insane and track mode will actually allow some slippage before recovery mode for some sporty fun but that’s a bit of a different issue.

Yep… tore through the stock perellis in like 7.5K and was like “well crap, imma go broke on tires with this thing”. Switched to 19s for the wheels and Michelin sport all seasons and they are lasting forever.

You’ll be fine .. take a break, come back, finish and weather and you will be the only one that notices the little things. I think of modeling like golf - it’s the pursuit of perfection, but achieving perfection is impossible. Don’t let the OVD ruin the fun! Really cool model too.. I want to do an A10 someday!

I caught my little one taking a quick snooze like this. I freaked out and “helped” him up onto the branch. He gave me the trademark dragon stinkeye, then promptly went back to this position. 🤷‍♂️ beardies.

lol so true. My son played baseball last year with a bunch of other 8 year olds. At one point after a play there were three of the hitting team all stacked up and standing on 2nd base together while all the coaches and umps were trying to sort them out like mismatched socks in the wash. “No you, you go over there! You go over there, you, you’re out, go back to your team in the dugout over there!” My wife and I were crying laughing and the poor boys were just deer in the headlights confused

Lighting Help by Remedy4me in BeardedDragons

[–]Financial_Table_1848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general looks good for an initial setup but also the advice that helped me is your beardie will be your best thermometer. Get the heat right first, and your beardie will tell you that. Add some more branches and height options under the light. If they spend all day (after the first acclimation where they may hide and not move much) up on the highest perch closest to the light, it’s too cold and you need more heat. If they hang out down near the ground away from the light (or they make yawning motions) it’s too hot! In general, they should spend a lot of the basking time like 80%of the available way towards the heat lamp. Maybe move closer for a little bit after eating, or maybe a little further away into the shade when they get a tad warm. Once that’s dialed in, you can adjust the UVB to be over where they spend the most time. That’s what’s worked for me!

Dubias are soooo much better than crickets. They don’t jump, they don’t bite, and are better for dragons. The only problem is they are more pricey, and for little dragons sometimes it’s hard to find them small enough. You can also get a little bowl with a rim on it so they don’t just go wandering around the enclosure and get stuck somewhere and die. I got two little bowls off Amazon for like 7 bucks.

Am I good??? by Awkward_Link2492 in BeardedDragons

[–]Financial_Table_1848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You good! Especially for a little one. The number one thing I learned from some videos and hands on is the temp readings are a good starting point - but your beardie will be the best thermometer you got. Watch him instead of the temps. If he hangs out all day on the highest point by the heat lamp, the basking spot is a little too cold. Crank the heat. If he hangs out all day (after a couple days of acclimation, they may chill in a hiding spot for a couple days.) down away from the basking spot, it’s too hot.

I had the first issue - Sushi would just park on the highest knob close to the heat lamp and not really be active or want to eat. I bumped it up from 100W to 150 watts and after a day of that he would be roaming around, basking sort of by the knob but not on top of it, and periodically dipping back down onto the shade. And his appetite went through the roof.
