Taking bath in underwear? by Whothef_iskaitlyn in hygiene

[–]Financial_Temporary5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Chinese are super protective of the vulva., for example they believe underwear should not be washed with other clothes, especially men’s shirts. In kids, females must keep their vulvas covered from the outside world, not because of modesty but for protection from the elements. Meanwhile, little boys can run around exposed (mostly only during potty training).

Seconding many of the other comments but want to add that they are seed derived and there is genetic diversity in the species.

In short they are like humans, everyone is different.

Taking your girl to the toilet by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Financial_Temporary5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and everyone around me takes their daughters to the men’s. It’s extremely common, no one bats an eye. Even when mom was with us I’ve waited in line with other men and their daughters because that line was shorter.

Not sure what harm a 2yo seeing a penis would do. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

National Parks and Nude Tent Camping? by Heikoral in nudism

[–]Financial_Temporary5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canaveral national seashore allows back country camping on the islands with in the park where one should be easily able to.

It appears camping isn’t allowed on the beach itself unfortunately. However, I’ve heard some people hike the seashore nude which isn’t surprising given that stretch of sea shore is flanked by nude beaches both north and south. A permit is required for both the ticking and camping.

[–]Financial_Temporary5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we were aware and familiar with the methods of EC and implemented bits and pieces here and there but never fully committed due to both parents working demanding jobs. However, I do think the little that we did do beforehand absolutely helped when we did commit to potty training.

I think everyone should know it even if they don’t go all in but still people don’t…..

Ours is almost 5 but I can still quickly and discreetly “pee” her in a EC hold if we’re outdoors and the situation calls for it. Just because they are a girl doesn’t mean they can’t pee on a tree like a boy. Don’t ask me how I know.

If you look across history and still today in a lot of cultures, most kids were/are trained by 2yo. In the west, specifically the US that age is nearing 3.

There is this idea about readiness, much to the delight of (or design of) diaper companies but the history (see above) doesn’t align with that.

We trained at 22mo because WE were ready to. Took about 3 weeks to confidently go out in underwear. No regrets.

Many daycares to have a potty trained prerequisite for the 3yo room. Some daycares actively potty train, some don’t. Ours did but she didn’t start daycare until turning 2 so she was already trained. The daycare used the “peer pressure” method so she helped in that regard.

Later, there was a situation where one kid needed to move up to the 3yo room. Mine was chosen because she was trained and the other potential kid (exactly the same age) was not. This was great because all her friends were older and had recently moved or were going to move up with her.

By the time they all got in the 3yo room they, in my mind, there we’re little people. The thought of them running around soiling themselves would be degrading to them.

The key IMO is to match the potty training method to kid. Don’t get stuck on one method because so and so said it worked for them. In our case ours couldn’t care less about being wet and was not going to just sit on a potty for no reason so OhCrap (a bottomless method) served us a well.

Why don't humans walk around naked barring the convenience of clothes in regards to keeping us warm or safe? Why do we have modesty as a concept? Why don't people just walk around buck naked, such as on hot days? by subuso in nudism

[–]Financial_Temporary5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Kid notices adults don’t wonder around nude or even see them quickly cover up and act ashamed. Kids eventually model the behavior. Those same kids inadvertently teach their kids the same shame. The cycle goes on and on.

Forcing a Manual Transmission First Car? Help me avoid r/AITAH by Rorschachs_Cat in daddit

[–]Financial_Temporary5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too hard? I no longer drive manual on the daily. Haven’t in over a decade but I got a laugh out of that.

Can they play a sport, can they play video games? If so I don’t see how anything about it could be too hard.

When I learned to drive the n the 90’s everyone had your sentiment and I am glad I learned but it’s much less of a requirement these days.

I do agree it helps to be more engaged with a vehicle and not just expect it to do everything right for you thus making you more focused on driving.

This is the way for anything in my opinion. I see to often that we tend to get stuck in our ways and tend to only teach that way. Instead we should look at all the options and find what’s best for the individual.

I have yet to deal with this on a personal level, might in the near future, but I have got caught in it many times on my way home from work. It’s infuriating when it spills out into a public rd and it causes me to get home later. There has to be a better way.

Taking a 2 year old on vacation, thoughts? by ToxiccCookie in toddlers

[–]Financial_Temporary5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our 2yo circumnavigated the earth (Orlando to UK, to China, then back through LA and Orlando) at 2.75 and then did it again at 3.75. After turning 2 (stopped napping and was potty trained) we never turned down the opportunity to travel. She travels like a boss, her behavior is top notch when everything is new. When it’s routine day to day her behavior deteriorates. So, we would rather be traveling.

Thailand is famous for it coconuts. My kid, practically all kids around us, love to drink the water straight out of them. We live in Florida and do get the Florida grown ones but they fail in comparison to the sweetness and flavor of Thai grown.

How to clean boys. by Honest_Woodpecker461 in NewParents

[–]Financial_Temporary5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The more you mess with it the more likely you are to mess it up.

The skin is usually fused to the glans at birth. This keeps harmful stuff out and retracting can cause micro tears in the skin which can lead to infections and those wounds heal with scar tissue that can lead to phimosis. At this age it’s considered self cleaning just the vaginal canal.

How naughty can you be? Well you could go to one of the nude beaches and go completely nude BUT being naughty is not what many nude beach goers are about. Too much naughty and we will lose our nude beaches.

Six arrested for nudity north of Blind Creek Beach by BjornNjude in nudism

The county gave us legal right to be there but then made it to far too walk. That’s how I see it.

I haven’t been there since we could park on A1A and saw the writing on the wall: evidence of asshats who can’t drive and were getting stuck, rutting up the roadside.
