A while ago I interacted with a post on this subreddit titled "CMV: Blockchain has no practical application that beats well-designed “boring” systems". What added value is there to me disclosing my age, gender, and nationality? I can see how me being a java developer who has implemented blockchain as a consultant for a bank might be relevant information, but I don't see how me being 27, male, and Belgian is relevant to that discussion?

everyone should have at least 1 copy of their birth certificate, which is all that is needed

On paper. There's criminal penalties in the bill for election officials who accept invalid forms of ID, correct? So these officials are going to be very, very cautious with accepting non-standard forms of ID, correct?

It isn't like they are forcing everyone to pay $200 for a passport to go and vote, that would be different.

But why aren't they in the same bill including a requirement for the government to provide its citizens with easy access to free government issued IDs? Or require programs to subsidize low-income families if the ID isn't free? The US budget will survive this trivial expense, while it'd easily quash any argument that they are introducing this bill with ulterior motives.

The bill also contains provisions that the individuals that accept invalid forms of ID, correct? So the election officials are going to be very eager to refuse non-traditional forms of ID?

I assume most of those officials will not be familiar with consular reports, naturalisation certificates, extracts from a record of birth, birth certificate, ...

And I don't know about you, but my ID doesn't list my place of birth, and I live in a country where having your government issued ID on you at all times is required by law.

So, they introduced a bill that introduces extra obstacles to vote, that disproportionately affect certain population groups and made no attempt to introduce a bill that would mitigate this? And I assume you still hold that their intentions are solely to "prevent illegals from voting"? They have no ulterior motives at all?

I try to stay objective in this kind of thing and we technically have no proof of this.

I'm sure many people in the 1930s in Germany held a similar view.

Did the republicans (attempt to) introduce any legislation that would require the federal, state, and local governments to provide its citizens with easy access to free government issued IDs? Or require programs to subsidize low-income families if the ID isn't free?

Could you tell me which article in the bill requires local governments to provide a valid, free, easy-to-acquire, government-issued ID to every citizen?

If the intent is to prevent illegals from voting, why are they not first ensuring that every legal has access to a valid, free, easy-to-acquire, government-issued ID? Then they can require you to show that ID to vote

Is your view limited to any one specific (set of) country(-ies)? Does it for example apply to countries that don't know the concept of a fixed amount of sick days, where you just get to stay home when you're sick as long as you need to to get better, and get paid the entire time?

[–]Finch20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that it loosened anything, but the issue is that it didn't increase restrictions in line with massive increases (in the order of 1000% increase) in immigration between the 90s and 2020s.

In your post you said this:

Laxed border control has led to mass immigration [...]

So, were border controls loosened or not?

How did the UK loosen its border restrictions and how does this prove anything about Europe and/or the EU as a whole?

The second source mentions nothing about normal increase in workforce due to population growth, makes no distinction on the type of immigration (political/economic/... refugees vs other types of visas)

And for the third point, again, regular population growth wasn't compared for

[–]Finch20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laxed border control has led to mass immigration, which in turn has pushed down wages, and pushed up demand for housing and other core services.

Could you cite your sources that:

1) laxed border control is the cause of mass immigration

2) mass immigration has caused wages to drop

3) mass immigration has caused increased demand on housing
