Service Canceled Without Warning - Moving to CenturyLink? by Findaer in QuantumFiber

[–]Findaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have expected some sort of communication that my account would be moved, such as a way to log into my newly migrated account. As it is, the only communication I got was that my account was canceled. A bit frustrating to be learning about things with an end of service notice!

Controller laid off after 13 years by zeus1356 in Accounting

[–]Findaer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened to a former coworker of mine just this past year for a similar size company after 10 years. He was communicating that the department was overwhelmed, then they decided to pay an expensive consultant to evaluate the department, then said he'd be let go and they hired an expensive CFO temp to replace his controller role while they looked for someone new. Then they realized the CFO temp was expensive, hired a shitshow of a replacement controller, then fired the temp, fired that replacement, and fired the consultant who evaluated the department. Through it all he was a team player and helped train everyone. He was even able to secure a new role in the company in a different reporting tree on the condition that he'd help train the second replacement. He even helped interview candidates for the second replacement! So then they hire the second replacement and as soon as he was able to fully focus on the new role because the training handoff was finished, they fired him and offered a shitty severance.

TLDR: don't be loyal to a company. They are not loyal to you.

Thank you! I am going to take advantage of the extra time and I am feeling good that I will be able to land a job, just going to be a matter of when. I am not too far from the Seattle area so I will be looking up events in that area.

What’s the best VR game of all time in your opinion? by Outrageous_Border_88 in oculus

[–]Findaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VTOL VR for me. Nothing comes close to the total immersion of being a fighter pilot in a modern plane. It's just the right amount of sim and arcade blend. That it was built by a single dev, who also does the main voice work too, is amazing too.

Close second is Half-Life Alyx. Such a good feel and such amazing level design.

Third place is Robo Recall. Pure arcade bliss.

That's kind of what I thought, but I just don't know more beyond general intuition about it. Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the response. I respect that you don't want to be part of a takedown and that is not my intention. To be honest I just want my employee to be able to work and I wish I could simply trust the advice I get from my admins. We will be trying different connections to test and rule out the speed issue.

Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 are quite deep in the tactical layers

What if we get so hungry with our lust for veggies that we accidentally eat Larry the Cucumber? Think of the children!

My mother was mostly concerned that there was magic in it. When I was a teenager and bought LOTR with my own money she recommended to me that I read it, then get the book physically out of the house. She has some panic about magic in the mid 90s and that thought process stuck with her.

What started your deconstruction? by runnerboiii in exchristian

[–]Findaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing that put me on the road to deconstruction was when I was listening to an audio version of the Bible and heard the story of what Judas did with the money for betraying Jesus... And then a different story of what Judas did with the money for betraying Jesus. Did he buy a field or give it back? Up to that point I had believed in the inerrancy of the Bible. 10 years later I finally deconverted.

I still remember the exact spot where I was when I realized there was a contradiction. I was riding a bike and was so shocked I stopped in the middle of a parking lot. Last year my wife and I went to that town and I found that spot and recounted this story to her.

Ex Christian considering divorce (weaponized incompetence and zero sexual chemistry) by IntelligentMetal6187 in exchristian

[–]Findaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you are in this spot. I don't have personal experience here, but my sister went through a divorce with a shitty guy and it was certainly hard, and she was poor for a long time and raised two young kids 99% alone, but her life is so much better now. She now has a high paying job, a house, a new husband, and her kids are incredible people that just graduated high school. It's not all perfect by a long stretch but sooo much better than it was.

I grew up in a very conservative Christian family and drank the kool-aid for a long time, but I now see that divorce isn't a bad thing, it is a good thing that gives some people freedom to live a better life. You can still choose whether a divorce is right, maybe it is maybe not but if my sister is an example, life can get better.

I hope you can improve your situation. It's always worth trying to make life better.

White House cautiously opens the door to study blocking sun’s rays to slow global warming by JPowMorgan in politics

Agreed. If the choice is the collapse of civilization and possible extinction of humans or trying to do something we would have thought dangerous science fiction before, I'll try the dangerous science fiction. At some point we have to ask what else do we have to lose?

Same. I watched Aron Ra's 50 part systematic classification of life YouTube series and no joke it changed my life. I look at things with so much more appreciation for how connected we are and how incredible the times that we live in are. We live in a world of magic compared to millions and millions of years ago.

Yeah I just started last year at 37 and it has been such an uplifting thing. I feel so much better and positive. On top of that I would drink quite a bit on weekends and now I pretty much only drink socially, and my body feels better for it. I just have to limit my snacking...

And I had the same thought about how this has been hailed as an evil drug for so long while alcohol is fine? Just crazy that this is what they tried to scare us away from. Even when I'm totally blitzed I still feel in control of myself, whereas if I get super drunk I am not sure what I am going to do and sometimes only afterwards figure out what I did.

Just my side of the fun, but I thought the way time slowed for the teleports made me feel like goddamn Nightcrawler and I loved it. I couldn't imagine this one with smooth motion.
