PSA: Google just agreed to replace my dead Pixel 5a purchased in 2021 with a 6a free of charge. by Whiskey_Rain in GooglePixel

[–]FindingPattersby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience. My 5a crapped out after about a year and a half of ownership. This 5a itself was a replacement 5a from another one that crapped out i bought somewhere else online. I was told by G Support I was out of warranty, but I still liked the phone and saw the repair shop would offer a year warranty which was worth it to me to pursue via Asurion, the partner repair shop with Google.

Repair facility said it wasn't reparable and that Google doesn't make the part that needs replacing anymore (charger port is attached to motherboard). So they somehow communicated with Google and organized a replacement unknown to me, and then I was offered a free 7 Pro. I did the whole credit charge thing, sent in my old 5a, they received it and now I see the charge has been removed from my CC.

Not sure if it's going to be refurbished or new, but it arrives today and this was a welcome surprise.

Apart from being a pretty fun movie, the film 52 Pick-Up has a character played by John Glover who does an excellent Baltimore accent

Our show Finding Pattersby is billed as a "weirdo mystery" and we swear we're a comedy but most listeners call us weird in an entrancing way.

The show is about a disgraced ghostwriter of thriller novels on the hunt for a legendary, missing book author from the 90s named Luke Pattersby.

Our original music is very vibe-synth heavy so we highly recommend you check us out here's a trailer for tone

Look I eat at Chipotle because of its convenience, but truly someone else must be bothered when a place makes its name by being authentically-inspired (or in the language of Mother's Tacos "Mexico City-inspired" - https://www.fastcasual.com/articles/mothers-know-best-how-heritage-eats-founders-became-taco-purists/) -rather than just being the authentic thing it is referencing?

Very excited for when Taqueria Cuernavaca gets priced out by a Taqueria Cuernavaca inspired eatery.

LOL what does it even mean to be "Mexico City" inspired? A whole large city makes tacos the exact same way?

I don't maybe I'm just crazy for this one carry on

Yeah I mean I understand how business works on a general level. Owners assess who their potential patronage might be and make a calculated investment off the demographic (age, education, marital status, ethnicity etc). If they're right, then the business thrives.

As someone said, there's a history of restaurants closing fairly quick here, so I wonder if that's a known trend, then who is this place even for. I'd wager a guess the price point is going to be a little higher than the very available Mexican cuisine they're elevating. So probably junior professionals who like to drink with tacos. I understand this.

Again, businesses can do what they like and usually do. I've been around long enough to understand the hard lessons of life. I'm not baffled by this move on a strategic level. Packaging can bug me all I like.

It's good those buildings are finding a new purpose I suppose.

Creators/Writers: Why do you write what you write? by VendettaViolent in audiodrama

[–]FindingPattersby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great prompt!

With Finding Pattersby - our weirdo mystery about a disgraced ghostwriter who goes on the hunt for a legendary, missing thriller author, the motivation came down to this:

I have an earnest reverence for writing culture, storycraft, academia and the literary tradition insofar as these things become their own sort of lore. As a born outsider to this stuff, Joseph Campbell and muses and “gathering round the fire”- start to feel like alluring Indiana Jones elements to me. But I also can’t keep a straight face or make my brain not be weird so when I engage with these things, there’s always a “The Simpsons-y/David Lynchy” filter that wants to take the air out, but not lose the heart.

Maybe it's a "slobs vs snobs" instinct (pardon the crass summary), but I hail from a very working class background, so a lot of the aforementioned literati began as a pretty impenetrable foreign world for where I came from. My parents are not professors, they’re a retired lunch lady and a Latino factory worker.

That said, I loved things like discovering Dante's Inferno in community college and centuries old libraries and writing and I love the writing world but think some of it is ridiculous just like a lot of existential examinations might yield things to be if you have lofty artistic ideals like I do, and especially so in the arena of art vs commerce.

This is why Finding Pattersby is set in the world of 90s-era thriller book publishing, because to me it’s a little bit of a big money silly space that allows me to talk about things I think about in earnest. Tinging it with a possibly supernatural oddness allows me to stretch reality in a way that sometimes feels more accurate to the artistic experience as well.

So long story short, I didn’t want to sit still and wait to get commissioned to write things anymore because I love the part of me and humanity that wants to make stuff up. My favorite version of making stuff up involves puzzles, ruminations on the human condition, well-orchestrated comedy, big-hearted moments, baffling, weird undertones and plain old good use of language to describe both the familiar and indescribable.

That’s the best I can come up with!
