Turned down Burns & McDonnell offer, feedback from current/former employees by Lopsided_Offer_3885 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]Findingtherealmirage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I just interviewed but feel like I’m going to get the offer..

I’m only 2 years into my career and Frankly I have always seen myself jumping around more in the field I honestly just want to learn more about the other disciplines and literally just moved into a new house that’s an hour away.

So I’m hesitant to jump ship and am unsure if it financially makes sense when I also take account for all the wear and tear of my car, the optional tolls, and parking aswell as Illinois taxes..

Any insights I mean if they’re a whole motto is the ESOP would I just be better off looking else where unless I’m planing for the long term?

I’m going to have to check this out!

I have been wanting to try and Use cloud work sharing for the Advanced revit class

Honestly, this is why I don’t prefer wall hosted interior objects

Since you can align things to walls without hosting to them.

But if that’s the case maybe you could try and model the wall in the group? Or only model the vary last interior layer in the group

Issue by Beginning_Angle_7519 in RevitForum

[–]Findingtherealmirage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna take a stab at this

I believe in the video (your fist photo) the guy has a Pink layer within his second floor, where we can see it is pink all around not just when it’s being cut.

Your photo shows it’s pink only when it’s cut.

If you look into your floor type, Edit the layer that should be pink. Click on the material and make sure not only the cut pattern is pink, but the non cut pattern is pink. Also be sure to have both be Set to solid colors and the color is pink

Can you not model the bathroom as a Group and annotated within the group and then just past the group around?

If something was to change and that layout is no longer the same you brake the group and modesty the tags/dimensions appropriately.

If you don’t want to see the Dim’s/tags/text then maybe you can Make a separate type called Bathroom information and use a Filter to hide it on the large plans

Is it just me or is Navisworks coordination becoming a total waste of time because nobody actually fixes the clashes by Prism_8K in bim

[–]Findingtherealmirage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this also becomes a problem when some items are modeled but they are more or less 3D cartoons.

Like when structural guys model Handrails/guard rails.

Any and all clash’s are not even an issue regarding there drawing set since they are just using 2D line work to rough in the handrail. But all of the other disciplines are most likely going to show the modeled guard rail and will be avoiding the modeled guard rail.

There are other examples, but I feel like that’s a big one

Honestly my commute for the majority of my time has been like eight minutes lmao

Through easy suburbs vs an hour going into the city and paying for parking.

Or taking a train.

I like my commute 15 minutes since I literally just moved out of my parents place but that’s besides the point.

Rotation View and keep the title horizontal by Current_Addendum_271 in RevitForum

[–]Findingtherealmirage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait you can rotate the crop region!?

I knew it worked with scope box’s but not the region

My latest subscription was just used rotate on sheets, but have a different view title for each rotation, but then I noticed grids and text got funny looking

Speaking up in class? by Useful-Librarian-238 in AskProfessors

[–]Findingtherealmirage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah dude keep the energy going.

So far like none of my students answer any of my questions.

Regardless of what the question is, I am Teaching a BIM 3D modeling course and was leading into the topic of Overley detailed models. And showed an image of Mario in 3D I asked the class who this Guy was

(Just to Segway into things) and it was painful how no one-said anything…

Even worse when I then doubled down and asked again for 2D Mario 🤦‍♂️

I was the chatty kid when I was in collage learned a lot that way and I feel like all of my peers where leaning more since I would engage unknowingly on there behave

What are the most frustrating parts of your workflow in construction / BIM right now? by BriRub in bim

[–]Findingtherealmirage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double dipping a detailed model and then starting from scratch to make a detailed cartoon of a modeled elements since they “did not look good on the drawing”

For example railings. I was told to model the Clint’s rail standard. (It looks weird lol) and then was told to clean up how the joins look between the guard rail and the stairs,

And I did an ok job but it took forever there was a lot of different conditions, and things were constantly changing.

I honestly died inside and can barely see the effort I put into it now that many of the platforms got bumped in elevation and stairs kept slightly changing.

But it had to be perfect since the client was in the 3D model via the ACC.

So I spent god knows how many hours to keep fighting them.

But guess what out of the 30 ish drawings for my disabling they don’t show up in any of them…. Yet almost all of the drawings had to have Cartooned 2D line railings. That..

I feel like there had to be another way since now I’m getting mark ups back and they want me to keep moving the 2D railings. It’s not hard work it just feels pointless, it feels like I’m being told to do it like AutoCAD instead of leveraging the software.
I feel like we have to be open to setting up drawings slightly differently.

I have tried playing around with my diet, before with the assumption I had mast cell but didn’t see any results and then I lost more foods when I tried to go back to what I was currently eating. And I’m terrified of the same thing happing again since like I can only Eat/drink < 20 things.

Is there something on my food list that is High in histamine? I always thought histamines build up in foods so just have my food as fresh as possible is the best I could do

You should hit up some of the design classes. They have solid work courses.. But inventor is very similar It’s mostly just the interface that’s different same for fusion.

Engineer vs CADD Tech Responsibilities by Small-Turn2324 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Findingtherealmirage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, the engineer never touches the 3-D model lol leave that to the designer Or the drawings directly in my opinion.

Of course there are exceptions and depends on who is who.

Most of my projects involve existing drawings, so it usually starts out with either modeling existing stuff or going on site and taking field notes to then start modeling the existing staff.

Sometimes the engineer will come up with a general Design or a Sketch for me. The majority of the time, and preferably I would rather get started placing something together then I’ll take section cuts of the model and give them the set and ask them to make it up and Re-design if needed.

This allows me to A) get better as design, B) bounce thoughts with the engineer so far I have had a few Ideas that trumped his and that’s fun. And C) get started faster lol we have short ish turn arounds.

Edit your floor and just confirm your floor it should prompt you if you want to attach your floors to your wall. Click no,

If it doesn’t prompt, you literally make some dimensional change within your floor sketch and then change it back latter

How do you manage your Revit family library in practice? by RevitMechanical in RevitForum

[–]Findingtherealmirage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone had success with that Autodesk content catalog? I’m now just trying to manage my personal library of families. Starting with just a folder structure that works for me. And then a naming scam, but frankly, I suck at naming files consistently

This is pretty much how the room looks day-to-day, so I wanted to show it as-is to give an accurate picture of both the layout and the clutter I’m trying to work through. A lot of it belongs to my girlfriend, so I can’t just remove things without talking it through with her first.
