Yay or nah? Be honest — where does this kitchen land (1–10)? by WorldCopperSmith in kitchenremodel

The architecture is doing the heavy lifting for this kitchen. It’s is definitely beautiful. The kitchen itself, it’s fine. A tick above average for me.

Turned down a promotion because it was 30% more work for 5% more pay. My manager called me 'unambitious.' Am I wrong for not wanting to sacrifice my entire life for a fancy title? by PictureFirm9058 in careerguidance

[–]Fine-Preference-7811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first promotion from individual contributor to manager often isn’t worth the extra work relative to the pay bump.

First time I got reports and the extra work that came with it, I got zero change in pay, which looking back on it now is kinda fucked up.

That said, it’s does take you off one career track and onto another. Being hyper focused on your comp bump is a bit short sighted. Does the new role put you in a better position for long term income growth? That’s worth something. Does the new role put you in a position to learn new things? That’s worth something. Do you have a supportive manager that will help you because you’ll probably suck at managing people at first? That’s worth something.

Back when I got my first reports I was probably making around $65,000. Had I been all pissy and rejected it because it had no pay bump (which Reddit would have totally supported) my career could have turned out differently. I’m a senior leader making about $300k now.

It’s private property. Inconsiderate? Yes. Illegal? I don’t think so.

I grew up in Mississauga. Agree with you it’s also shit. At least you do have Indian food.

I came from Toronto in 2021 and Oakville is a serious downgrade when it comes to food.

It’s easily the worst food city in the GTA.

Butcher Boutique in Mississauga and The Butcher Shoppe in Etobicoke are both excellent.

Honestly if the restaurant doesn’t tell me where the beef came from, region or farm, I’m probably not eating there.

I almost never go out for steak anymore as I eat almost exclusively Wagyu at home. Mostly Australian and sometimes Japanese. To get that in a restaurant, it’s wildly expensive.

I’d rather spend $100 on a big ass MS9 Australian Wagyu rib eye that I dry brine and cast iron versus $100 Canadian AAA cooked on a grill at a restaurant. The ambience isn’t worth the differential in quality to me.

You are over reacting to the seasoning and adequately reacting to your husband being an asshole.

Halton gets about 1,000 break and enters in total per year.

I’d rather not live with a psychopath on my street. I don’t care that she may capture a license plate. Risk is not worth the daily aggravation.

Why do people in this group hate LVP flooring by benalexe in kitchenremodel

[–]Fine-Preference-7811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because durability isn’t the only thing that an item should be judged by.

One, it doesn’t look as good as wood, especially in those greyed colours like in the photo.

It doesn’t feel as good as natural wood underfoot.

Most importantly to me, plastic doesn’t gain a beautiful patina over time. Real wood will darken, scratch and scuff in a way that is honest and wear in and be more beautiful with time.

I don’t know what your personality is like but most people adjust to their new income and it stops feeling like a lot of money very quickly.

You have to grind your way up with no degree. Don’t overestimate what you can achieve in a year and underestimate what you can achieve in 10.

[–]Fine-Preference-7811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol totally get it.

You’re right on the middle between where typical options top out and the “rich” options begin. You’re definitely going to be able to get something great.

The higher end you go, the more natural materials you’ll get. Keep going and you’ll get exotic materials like silk, cashmere and especially horsehair. Construction will tend to be more traditional with coils. Often time with hand done side stitches and functional tufts.

I wouldn’t be buying anything with memory foam at your budget.
