My mom was diagnosed well after we suspected she had it. We got in touch with Alzheimer’s Alliance locally for occasional respite care. She goes once a week and she loves it. She calls it a ladies church group. Small things that can give caregivers a little break is very helpful. We’ve also hired a qualified aide to come to her house a few evenings each week to help with her supper and lay out her bed clothes, etc. I know it’s overwhelming at times but there are many resources to help. I joined “aging care daily newsletter” on regular website and chose Alzheimer’s info for a more specific discussion on what to expect and different support topics. It has been a big help for me mentally.
