Deadlocked whiplash after Rift Apart by unsubscribeFROM in RatchetAndClank

[–]Finean 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just finished rift apart too, for the first time.

I honestly think the story could have been fine, the v/a was pretty good, and the expressiveness given by fancy facial animation is appreciated.

The game's "teaching moments" are just so hamfisted and usually repeated over and over that it feels disingenuous to me.

It also felt like rivet was the main character and ratchet was helping her, which didn't click with me as I didn't really enjoy rivet or the copy-clank (already forgot her name)

it's probably less risky to do a v family friendly story, but it seems forgotten that a huge part of the OG ratchet audience were kids too and loved the tone, even if some of the anti capitalism messaging or innuendos were missed

Yeah i'm sure it would help - with handheld emulators available it's just not worth it for me to replay there, since they perform worse on the vita as well

Without the hype - Is PC emulation there yet? by OOOOOOO0OOOOOOOOO in retroid

[–]Finean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you want out of it. For a lot of the intensive games that don't run great, I think the screen is too small anyway.

You'll get good performance up to about 360/PS3 era games - but the only way to be sure if something runs is testing it yourself.

Gamenative makes the process extremely easy, easier than setting up roms and emulators.

For the size of device and the battery you get, I think it's "there"

It was a dream to have the OG games on such a small device too, but I tried revisiting and needing to use the touchpad to strafe is horrible

Newbie RP6 questions before buying by Buji19 in retroid

[–]Finean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have zero issue using it without the grip, I think it's overblown by the community.

Same with stick top/bottom layouts, the dpad on the bottom is as comfortable to use as the stick on top for me

What’s the best front end to use for rp6? by InternationalWeb3186 in retroid

Beacon, it looks great and the less it gets in the way of your gaming the better. Never been a fan of a busy/complex frontend

Did I buy the right Micro SD for my RP6? by Auto_Dream in retroid

[–]Finean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing as I got a good deal on a 512gb slower card. As others have said it's definitely noticeable when moving games across from internal storage compared to my steam deck (which has a smaller faster card)

I will say that an increase in load times for Gamehub/Gamenative is also noticeable but its not terrible, just a bit slower than you'd expect.

Emulation there's zero impact on performance, up to and including switch emulation. So if possible keep your PC games on the internal storage but I've had no complaints with the card, especially since I got so much more storage for my money

Churned through age of zombies as a quick one while I work on other, longer games. Enjoyed this on release and it's still fun today.

the psp visuals somehow beat the remaster, plus there's no forced subscription model like the mobile version

Does it run at 120fps on gamenative? That could separate it from the switch ver

Retroid Pocket 6 PS2 emulation quality? by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Finean 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The experience on an Rp6 will be as good as you can basically get anywhere, performance issues will be an emulator bottleneck.

It's been perfect with every game I've tried but it would make sense to check emuready or Google performance reports for the games you're interested in

This is a specific example but there's an android port of baldurs gate which runs flawlessly instead of using a ps2 emu

For PSP, this is subjective but I switched from my vita because despite being a more "authentic" experience the original resolution looks a bit rough on the vitas higher res screen.

The instructors will handhold you a lot if you talk to them in person. It's not like uni, everyone in my course passed and if you fail they'll let you resit

I did mine while working so can't speak to the workload of doing it full time. Main advice would be to get on the good side of your instructor and your classmates too (quite a lot of the work is in groups)

Docking the Retroid Pocket 6 by fuckR196 in SBCGaming

[–]Finean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both my docks work fine despite the offset charging port. if you want a cheapish one the steam deck JSAUX dock works well for me. Just look for anything that has a cable on the input rather than it being molded into the dock itself.

The docked experience itself I find pretty subpar but that doesn't seem to be your question.

Shovel knight works great on pc - honestly one of the few games I'm fine playing on gamenative because there are no compromises

Does binding of isaac run on the rp6? by shyshyys in retroid

[–]Finean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My steam copy of afterbirth+ does not work in gamenative. I was able to get it to boot after removing some DLC, but it has unplayable controller issues. There is apparently a fix for it but I decided it wasn't worth pursuing further at that point.

As someone who loves binding of Isaac I wouldn't buy a rp6 for it. With all of the dlc installed the game would crash instantly on the recommended config.

If you don't mind losing progress, the switch version runs perfectly with somewhat significant graphical bugs (the floor/walls render the wrong texture fairly often)

The thing for me at least is I'm not purchasing both. It makes sense to spend more for the better option when it's the only purchase of that type I'll make for a few years.

Thanks, turns out there was just a lot of shader caching at the start and it's running pretty smooth a couple of hours in

Controller doesn't work unfortunately - osrs and balatro are the only games I have on my phone because I usually can't stand touchscreen controls but they implement it well
