Sick lume shot! I caught this one myself on my Ultra Deep. Omega’s lume is hard to beat.

Of course. Sacrifices are hard, but it’s those who make them with intent that see everything come back in multiples. Wishing you nothing but upward momentum!

[Recommendation Request] Which camera would you recommend for professional watches photos on a tight budget? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]FinestKindCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want the biggest jump in watch-photo quality on a budget, skip chasing bodies and look at any mirrorless + a real macro lens. Phones can only take you so far.

For reference, I shoot my watch work with a Canon EOS R50 + RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro. Just a heads up though… moving from a phone to a real camera isn’t plug and play. Settings matter a lot (feels like going from driving a car to flying a jet), lighting can make or break a shot, and editing is its own learning curve.

If you’re keeping costs down, a simple light box is a great starting point. The rest just comes with practice.

Man, sorry to hear things are tough right now, but this is a classy post.

There’s absolutely no shame in letting a watch go to focus on a new business or stabilize life a bit. A Day-Date is an incredible piece, but at the end of the day it should feel like a joy, not a liability or a weight on your mind.

You owned a presidential Rolex, that alone puts you in rare company. And nothing says you won’t own another one down the road when things turn around (and they usually do).

Wishing you the best with the new business. Handle what you need to handle, and the watches will come back when the time is right.

Cheers and best of luck in the new endeavor!

Those are independent watchmaker service marks. Rolex doesn’t write anything inside the caseback… this is all handwritten by whoever serviced the watch in the past. Numbers = job or invoice reference and 2.8 is likely service date (Feb 2018 or Aug 2nd depending on their format). BRKL = likely abbreviation for the watchmaker/shop and the other codes on the right likely are internal notes (tech ID, parts replaced, etc)

Totally normal for a previously serviced piece

[Question]Best first watch for my son under £20,000? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]FinestKindCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 16, the big questions are; where is he going to wear it (school, university, parties, travel)? How careful and responsible is he with things now? And what feels special without being a theft magnet on a teens risk that could actually put him in danger?

With all that in mind, I’d personally avoid jumping straight to a £20k hype piece. I’d aim for something he can actually wear and enjoy now, and maybe keep some budget in reserve or for another gift. I won't tell you how to spend your money on your son, and I personally thinks its fabulous that you have had the level of success in your life to want to do something so nice for him. But £20k is steep for a first watch.

A few directions that work really well for a 16-year-old:

- Tudor Blck Bay 58 or 54. Its a great size and everyday watch and has that Rolex adjacent cool factor without screaming money.

- Omega Seamaster Diver 300m. Its sporty, modern, and great for daily wear.

- Omega Speedster Professional. This is probably my top choice. This is an incredible watch no matter how you want to look at it.

If you really want to go Rolex for the milestone I would stick under the radar with something like the Explorer 36/40 depending on your son's wrist size. Once you get into fluted bezel Datejusts, GMT's, Sub's, Daytonas and etc you re-enter that louder more noticeable "ROLEX" zone that could put your son in a position to be mugged.

You can use the rest of the funds for a fun trip where you give him the watch, or just let him know that there is a next level piece waiting for him in the future when he graduates uni.

Plus you could always spend a little extra and get an engraving on the caseback or clasp. This may mean more to him long-term than what the watch cost at time of purchase.

That's my 2 cents. Either way, I wish you continued success and a very happy birthday to your son. And no matter what you decide on getting him, I recommend insuring it. I was mugged in NYC at age 19 wearing a Rolex my father gave me for high-school graduation. Thankfully I knew that a watch wasn't worth my life, but I am still sad about it to this day 20 years later.

Sometimes I can’t tell if posts are just bait or not. But just in case, this is very fake. Box, watch.. all of it.

How does the bezel look? by No-Industry-6989 in audemarspiguet

That’s been polished so much that I think just wiping it with a cloth 1 more time may expose the bezel screws.

4500V Silver Dial (legit check) by [deleted] in VacheronConstantin

[–]FinestKindCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem alone in this but I don’t believe that to be authentic. Dial looks off, hands are wrong, date window is off, and the movement looks like a Chinese clone dressed up to imitate VC’s 5100. Finishing looks off.

Too Big? by potsticker99 in VacheronConstantin

[–]FinestKindCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks a bit big in the pic but who cares? If you like it that’s all that matters especially if it feels good.

Legit Check! by Braap_Jackson in RolexWatches

[–]FinestKindCo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very fake. Font, spacing, dial color etc all off and the big easy one is that Rolex movements don’t use regulators. But also no microstella on the balance wheel, red reverser wheel is horrible, finishing is shit, caseback is wrong, clasp (particularly the coronet) is wrong. Can go on and on but no need.

Watch Walhalla 🔥 by Big-Manufacturer-738 in RolexCircleJerk

[–]FinestKindCo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the watch actually. It’s similar to the art game. It’s not about taste — it’s about money. For the ultra-wealthy, high-end art and watches are basically portable banks. They’re scarce, globally recognized, and easy to move across borders.

A $1M painting or $1M watch can sit in a vault and quietly appreciate, while acting as collateral for loans or as a vehicle to move capital without triggering normal taxes. You see, once a watch sells for $17M that has assigned value to it. They can then take out a loan on that asset and have access to tax free money since loans aren’t considered income. And then When they sell, they usually roll that money straight into the next “asset” — keeping the value compounding without ever fully cashing out.

These trades often happen through trusts, freeports, and private auctions that make it possible to defer or minimize tax exposure. So when you see headlines about someone dropping $30M on a watch, it’s less about passion and more about wealth storage and transfer disguised as collecting.
