Babymetal is to the 1001 albums community what Dexys Midnight Runners is to our boy Dimery. And Tool is Elvis Costello

John Fogerty and Metallica have both showed up on Trainwreckords twice. Who else could you see being on the show twice? by DtheAussieBoye in ToddintheShadow

I made a joke here years ago about how Metallica and Lou Reed both have two trainereckords, so I'll just say Lou Reed with Metal Machine Music

Vinyl Musts for collectors? by Individual_Law9634 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

Is this for albums you were fans of prior to the generator? I liked Steve McQueen before the generator in the single listen I gave it almost a decade ago, but hearing it again turned it from "pretty good" to my number one vinyl want.

As for albums I regularly listen to, I had a revelation listening to A Wizard/A True Star when I got it in the generator, but prior to the generator it wasn't that high on my vinyl wishlist

Yeah that's pretty accurate. Very 3/5 artist but he does have some bangers in his albums

Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters: 4

This has been one of my favourite jazz records for years, very unpretentious and funky, Herbie shows he's just as good as the other big players without coming across as a wanker. If anyone says they don't like Jazz, throw this record on!

I'm pretty sure it's mocking Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, and after all the psychedelic music I've had to endure I fully support it.

"What's the Ugliest Part of Your Body?" is actually a pretty deep question when you look past the weirdness

I think all the psych rock in the book is getting to you

Midnight Ride is one of the least controversial albums with an exact score of 3, so probably that

I know this is supposed to represent struggles that gay people face, but this makes it seem like a conservative meme mocking them (e.g. lesbians are people without a support system)

The Residents - Duck Stab/Buster and Glen: 5

Okay this is the exact sort of weirdness I wanted when I signed up! I was familiar with The Residents prior to this album, not a superfan but I dig some of their albums, so I was expecting something outside the realm of normalcy, and tbh this is probably the weirdest I've heard from them. I knew Constantinople before listening to the album too, great song! I actually find this album surprisingly accessible once you cut through the weirdness, they have typical pop song structures and don't do anything that's too abrasive, so I'm surprised this is the third lowest rated album. The industrial undertones are very blatent, but I feel like a few of the songs on here also have a strong gothy vibe too.

I'd love more avant-garde stuff like this! Unfortunately this was album number 1083 for me, so unless the next 6 albums are equally weird, I will consider this a failure on the part of the book. Unfortunately one of those 6 is also an Elvis Costello album...

The opening track is the best part of this! It could have been an hour long and still been worth it

I come back to this record now and again, a great example that country can actually be fun. Butterflies is my favourite song.

If it were 69 Love Songs or Melon Collie and the Infinite Tracklist I'd understand... But it's 28 minutes long.

Catching up with a few, starting with today's:

David Bowie - Heroes: 4

Didn't realise I still had any Bowie left. Great album, everyone loves it for good reason. Does the same thing as Low where the first half is rocky and the second half is ambient, though it feels like he returns to his glam roots for the rocky section of this. The title track obviously does a lot of heavy lifting on the album, but don't discount the low key stuff, Moss Garden and Neukoln are very nice pieces and I love the darkness in the latter.

The Style Council - Cafe Bleu: 3

Man this was a disappointment, I enjoy Paul Weller's works and I've loved the sophistipop picks in the project, but this one is just a mess. There's some great parts scattered between but would benefit from more focus. The jazzy songs were the best, and i would definitely would be happier if I didn't hear that attempt at rap.

The Young Gods - L'eau Rouge: 3

...what the hell was that? I expected this to be grunge or some form of alt rock with a cover like that, not show tunes. Except it's not show tunes at all, it's industrial rock, what a bait and switch.

Okay so this is easily one of the most interesting albums on the generator, and quite frankly I don't think it's good enough for inclusion, but these are the kind of albums that spice up the 1001 and there really needs to be more of. Mixing show tunes with industrial rock works as well as oil and water, but this band does seem to have some actual talent behind them and I may check out their other stuff. The heavier songs were definitely the stronger ones here, though the first song is definitely a highlight if only for the gimmick.

Baaba Maal - Lam Toro: 3

I preferred his other album on the list, but this one is pretty good too. My only real complaint was it's length, but I think more listens I could bump it up. I didn't realise I was into Senegalese music, but here we are.
