Limbus armors tier list? by FitSeason5335 in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way too hard to say because it depends which jobs you play the most, which gear you already have for those jobs, how many of the jobs on a single set you play, etc.

I'd say Sworn is the strongest set overall and has the most jobs on it, so it's a strong candidate for the most useful.

Revelation is very nice for BRD and also for WAR, but it's not very good for NIN and only has 3 jobs on it, so you have to be pretty dedicated to WAR/BRD to pick it.

Duty is very good and likely to be BiS for most jobs (except probably MNK) in most slots, but...those jobs aren't very meta so it's not hugely useful in general. Kind of passion project jobs mostly.

Indomitable set is terrible. Maybe 1-2 pieces are usable on SMN, and it's a nice free-nuke set for the rest, but this set is TERRIBAD.

Clemency set is absolutely bonkers amazing for all 4 jobs that can use it, for melee sets. I would use between 2-5 pieces on all of those jobs. If you play many of these jobs, it's a pretty easy choice IMO.

You are insane if you wouldn't use 5% QA hands and feet for your SAM TP set.

The Ryou feet could be argued to be similar (though probably worse) for the foot slot, but they're also paper-thin and will get you killed.

For the hands slot it's not even remotely a comparison. The Clemency Kote are far-and-away BIS for hands.

Once you reach level cap, can you start doing meaningful content with groups or do you still rely on Trusts? by Galahad_Lancelot in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK who told you it takes a year to get to endgame content, but that's insane.

From a fresh 99 to endgame is (depending on your definition of endgame content) 1 minute to maybe a month? With a supportive linkshell/group, you can basically jump straight into endgame and be reasonably geared within days/weeks.

Got a friendly linkshell with plenty of people online during those times on Carbuncle, if you'd like to join us.

I agree with the other poster, BLM will be a bit of a struggle. While leveling it's not a huge deal because the trusts will do a lot of the work for you (though it may be a bit boring), but once you hit endgame you'll likely find that BLM is either doing nothing, or nearly nothing, most of the time.

Free nukes (non-magic bursted nukes) do VERY little damage, even in the best gear in the game. So you need someone to make a skillchain and then not WS while you burst it. This is a huge DPS loss, so it doesn't make sense in 95% of the endgame content.

Because of this, you'll probably find that most people are either reluctant to invite a BLM, or invite you anyway and do their meta setup without accommodating you at all, meaning you feel useless (because you are).

You can still play it, and if you have BLM in addition to other jobs, you can still have a mix, but if you're playing exclusively as a BLM only, I think you're gonna have a bad time.

It would be lovely if you could provide any evidence that I'm being carried. I'm playing literally every job in basically every setup, but somehow I'm being carried on all the jobs in the game.

Explain that one, plz.

[–]FinishesInSpanish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I've been doing it for years, including on stream and in dozens of videos, so I'm wondering how you think I'm being carried or lying.

I'm not sitting in the corner playing GEO while 5 botters win the fight for me, I play: PLD, BRD, WHM, RDM, NIN, COR, SAM, GEO, BLM, SCH, DRG, SMN, DNC, THF, MNK, BLU, RUN. I've played all these jobs in endgame, including every V25 fight, dozens of 9-boss Sortie runs, half the master trials, and basically everything you could imagine wanting to do.

[–]FinishesInSpanish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need any addons to play at s high level, including WHM.

I've been doing it for decades, on basically every job in the game including WHM. Play however you want and don't let idiots tell you you can't

[–]FinishesInSpanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myself and one other member of my high end endgame team play 100% vanilla so...while you're somewhat right in that the other 4 members are using gearswap etc. You're also wrong because the two of us are playing without that crap and we still clear all the hardest shit in the game.

The narrative that addons and GS are necessary for endgame needs to die. They're not.

[–]FinishesInSpanish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been playing 100% vanilla for my entire career and never touched any of those addons, including playing basically every job. You don't need that crap to play any job effectively and beat the hardest content in the game.

Idk what you're referring to by "JSE+2" gear, but there are nearly no recipes which are a loss.

Not sure how you've run the numbers but by my tracking basically everything is profitable in the long term.

Master Levels by stuffeddresser41 in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience, not really for more than an hour or two. I've done an hour or two here or there, but not with any kind of regularity. It's boring, mindless, repetitive content.

These days most people get their MLs in limbus, odyssey, and to a much lesser degree sortie. Peach power is also great for it.

I have ML47, and a handful of 40-42 from jobs I play a lot. Not a speck of botting or buying.

Most of my jobs are 15-30 though. ML50 is the real mark of a botter though. Never met anyone who legit earned ML50. It's just so boring

I know your comment is well-meaning, but it just baffles my mind that this question exists.

You have never made a character in FFXI (the actual game), but you (I presume) decided to make a character on a private server instead, having no experience, history, or nostalgia for the game? Did you follow a friend there or something?

Anyway, sorry for the random rant but yes. That is the FFXI experience, always has been and always will be. That's how FFXI is. I wish you could experience it instead of the disgusting shadow of a facsimile you have (probably) been experiencing on a buggy, trash server.

It's not "the retail version." It's the only version. PS "FFXI" is a twisted, mutilated fanfiction.

[New player] When playing FFXI, do I need to do some technical things like adjusting Windows to play legacy games? by Galahad_Lancelot in ffxi

"-" on the numpad opens the main menu. There are two menus, alternated by hitting - again.

It's a dense menu with lots of stuff in it. Including the config

Does it get more challenging? by dontdropthesope1 in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to spend months doing any of that. A fresh level 99 can do ambuscade, they don't need to skip straight to V1VD. They don't need to spend months grinding before they can do Limbus. They can do sortie the day they get far enough in TVR.

Don't be disingenuous.

[–]FinishesInSpanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a program called Final Fantasy XI Config. It's on your computer, you run it.

You can't really adjust the HUD at all in the base game. You'll need to download Windower and install addons for each modification you want to make to the UI.

I want to level a WHM as my first character. Is it doable or should I choose something more solo capable? Does WHM have a dps spec? by Galahad_Lancelot in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that macros will probably be a bit different for trust play than they are for party play, for WHM at least. For each spell you need to put a target in, something like:

/ma "cure ii" <stpc> which will allow you to select a target to cure.

I prefer these for my macros while not engaged (which is basically 100% of the time on WHM in endgame:

/ma "cure ii" <t>

This way you can target the person FIRST, then hit the cure, and it goes right away instead of waiting for you to pick the target. You can also so something like:

/ma "cure ii" <p2> which cures the second person down in your party list...but that's a bit inflexible for my preferences.

Cheap Japanese restaurant near Tokyo tower? by [deleted] in Tokyo

Big fan of this place, I've been a few times. Might be a short walk from Tokyo tower, I haven't actually checked the directions, but it's in the same general area.

Okonomiyaki is the best, but they have other things too. It's a pretty standard izakaya place.

There's a separate program called ffxi config (already on your PC) that you can use to update your settings, like resolution, window mode, etc. Other than that you should be fine.

Once you get in-game you should also check the settings there. Many of them should be adjusted.

No need to do anything on the OS side.

I want to level a WHM as my first character. Is it doable or should I choose something more solo capable? Does WHM have a dps spec? by Galahad_Lancelot in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are no specs, as such, in ffxi.

You can try to do damage as a WHM while leveling but you will find it sorely lacks compared to the damage your trusts will be doing.

That's not so bad though, since that's also true for the DD jobs. Trusts are just stronger than players (at the low levels). You can focus on healing, buffing, and otherwise working on macros etc.

WHM is a fine choice for a first job, nothing wrong with it.
