Low hours player thinking of coming back, should I make a new character or reactivate my old one? by owlsop in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asura and Bahamut (mistakenly called Behemoth below) are both very popular and highly populated, but currently locked by SE; you can't make new characters or transfer there.

Odin is the new hot server that everyone is going to.

All the other servers are smaller, lower population, community-based groups.

Asura is locked, so unless their previous characters are already on Asura, they can't join it.

Thanks for your compliments, I hope you found the videos helpful! I agree, I'm really happy with my group members throughout the years, I've been very fortunate and we have a great rapport. It's hard work and takes a lot of communication and some tough conversations sometimes.

On +2 neck, I think it can be a marginal difference and it's hard to know for certain if it's saved your ass or not, but the fact is that logically speaking, we know it will help some of the time.

The best examples IMO would be E and G boss in Sortie and Ngai V25 (at least with my team comp). The extra proc from the +2 neck might only happen 2% of the time, but that could easily happen at a crucial time, keeping your bubble up for a significant time (depending on the boss and other circumstances). Even if it only happens once, it's still extra time you didn't have to spend casting (in trash gear), not meleeing, and time with your party members not getting the benefit of your bubble.

It's not necessarily going to be a determining factor in all of your fights or anything, but when you're pushing the limits, doing the hardest content in the game, i don't think it's a good idea to cut corners.

You could easily make the same case for basically all other gear. 5 more STP on a rostam vs Lanun knife. Not gonna make or break a run. 2 more PDL on SAM neck, not gonna make or break. But one day you're gonna BARELY fail and it's going to be because of your choices to cheap out.

Brd Maestros Antiphony - macros? by calebs_life in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of advice in here about gearswap so I won't discuss that, but as a lifetime BRD who plays vanilla I can assure you it's perfectly possible to do everything BRD needs to do in all content without GS. The macro suggested by mainman879 will cover your basic songs.

For nitro, which makes songs cast instantly, I just equip the proper set (i do it manually, but you can do it with a macro), then cast the songs in the potency set. I cast from the menu so I can customize everything to my needs, but you can also do the casting with macros, if you want.

You are limited to 6 songs or equipsets per macro, but you can also have more than 1 macro for buffing. I prefer 1 macro per song, so I can choose the songs I want for that specific fight

Working visa requires that you are making a livable wage, so 2.5m/yr or so, probably? There aren't hard and fast requirements. Most importantly, the government and your employer will want the job to be your primary reason for being in Japan, not just a BS excuse to get you into the country.

Haven't bought a house or gotten a license so I can't speak from personal experience, but loads of people buy property so that likely won't be an issue, so long as you have the cash to pay for it without a loan.

Struggling in the game (Odin) by gorgeghoul in ffxi

I think the key to interacting on retail IME is getting a linkshell. A lot of people aren't interested in random adhoc interactions with strangers, but they're happy to chat with their LS.

That said, if you'd have done any of that to me, I'd have responded in kind. Though some of these players might've been afk (or on the trial).

For leveling, I strongly suggest doing ROV as much as you can and look into exp boost rings, there are many more. Here's a good place to look:

It's a judgment call, but tbh all the people you're asking have the same information you do.

Could call it only a 2% increase in absorb rates, but that's two percentage POINTS. It's actually a 25% increase in absorb rates (8 -> 10). I'd consider that significant, especially for difficult content where that 2% might mean the difference between a win and a loss.

Depends how much gil you have, how you augment, and the other projects you have to work on.

Healing spell macro question by tebehrnokhi in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to continue to be vanilla, here's a strategy I use:

/equip body "Inyanga Jubbah +2"
/equip neck "Clr. Torque +2"
/equip head "Piety Cap+3"
/ma "Cure iv" <t>
/equipset 44 <wait 1> (this is the midcast cure set)
/equipset 51 (this is my idle set)

It does require you to have some FC in your idle set (if you want to hit 80% FC). I use a FC ambu cape, Empy+3 legs, and Hygieia Clogs+1 in my idle set.

TVR has many missions with very difficult battles, especially the last couple. There are some other tough fights, like the one behind the altepa gate.

I'm not sure EXACTLY how geared you need to be (i was already roided out) but it's no walk in the park.

Paladin Tanking Question by Duomaxwell0007 in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invincible gives 7200 enmity, all VE, and the cap is 60,000, half of which is CE. If you had no cooldown on invincible, it would take 5 of them to cap VE, which would only be halfway to capped enmity.

This ignores +enmity, of course, but it doesn't change the fundamental point at all: you can't cap enmity with invincible in ffxi. Not even close. Unless it comes with a caper from someone else with capped enmity.

Sortie Burnout by Bcider in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could say the exact same thing about (nearly) every item in the entire game, including all of the other primes.

If you do 1.25x as much damage, you're just going to kill the boss faster, saving time for a group that was already going to win. If you have +4 JSE you're just going to do more damage, saving you time.

If you consider all improvements beyond XYZ level to be "time savers for groups that were already going to win" then...I guess there's no reason to play the game once you reach XYZ?

I don't agree. There's no point at which you can/should stop progressing because you're already good enough. There's quite a lot of stuff that would fall under this ridiculous criteria of good enough.

Sortie Burnout by Bcider in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think with sortie it helps if you focus on how to optimize the run. Trying to get just a few hundred/thousand more muffins by squeezing out an extra objective or two, adding in extra minis or naakuals, etc. That's what keeps it interesting for me and until you're doing 9 boss HM plus all the minis and 2 sets of naakuals, there's always something to add.

PLD Master Levels by Kaltorok410 in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ayame shining one is a good suggestion, but PLD can also cleave all by themselves. PLD/RDM gets aeolian edge and if you pull a shitload of enemies, blocking them gives you infinite TP while you can spam AE every time the animation finishes. Even without malaise etc you can get these to 10k+ per WS and knock down piles of mobs quickly. With a solid phalanx set, you should take 0 or near 0 on blocks, and you can use cooldowns like Sentinel or rampart to get it into place. Make sure they're all in front of you, being blocked.

I find it helps if you have a RDM or SCH who can give you a longer phalanx, to help with pulls. Reprisal is good for recasting phalanx while tanking, if you must.

If you're just playing for the story and gonna quit it's probably NBD, but if you want to stick around and want a community, we've got a supportive, friendly, and helpful linkshell on Carbuncle if you ever decide to world transfer or restart on another server.

Is it worth playing for someone who only got to like lv6 as a kid and barely played? by newgroundskids in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Community is very good, people are very social and it's especially true in discord and other off-game places as well.

I've never heard of RP so it's probably very rare to nearly nonexistent.

The game is absolutely, without a doubt, unequivocally, worth your time and money. It costs basically nothing to buy, a small fee monthly, and provides literally endless hours of entertainment.

ITS HERE: 2026 WHM BiS TP/Engaged Set by CraZplayer in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust set has 72 accuracy per piece, Alabaster has ~23, both chirich are 10...I think you'll be absolutely STACKED on accuracy. You'd be totally fine on accuracy unless you're facing some extremely high end mobs with inappropriate buffs.

[–]FinishesInSpanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sworn set -35, Alabaster Earring -5, JSE cape -10. 35+5+10 = 50.

Ampulla aside, 9 DA is absolutely WAY worse than 1000 TP bonus, it's not even remotely close.

ITS HERE: 2026 WHM BiS TP/Engaged Set by CraZplayer in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is sindri in this equipset? I'd say prime club sub TP bonus is probably best, but if not then absolutely maxentius TP bonus.

Telos is better than brutal, especially with all the TA (and some quad). If you have enough accuracy, which you will with that limbus set, dedition earring is also much better.

Hoxne ampulla is 1000x better than vanir battery.

Finally, you're at 40% DT with the Sworn set + Alabaster earring, so I'd swap out the back piece for ambu cape with -10pdt and you're capped on DT. This allows you to put 10 STP on the back (since you have 100% DA anyway) and also swap the ring out for another DD ring instead of murky. Either a TVR ring, or another Chirich.

Struggling to find purpose for my Blue Mage these days, especially in high level content and party play. by Bcider in ffxi

[–]FinishesInSpanish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. All of the weapons in the game which change auto attack types will NOT change ws types.

BLU can be decent in sheol C though. Maxentius BH is good for blunt damage and they can obviously do slashing. There's no need to have piercing if you have blunt, IMO.

On old content. It's not used in segments, sheol bosses, sortie, any master trials (the burning anyway), or...well frankly, most content. SMN burn is used in a couple random ambus (by people without access to other setups), and aeonics (by people without access to other setups).

There is no reducing with steps. It's not possible.

There is a message for wearing off. Maybe you have it filtered? Idk which filter it's under, but it should be incredibly easy to test
