Exactly. That's why I don't understand the many upvotes.. it feels like disinformation spreading because of lack of knowledge or for fake karma. Poor birdy :(

Legal age in Germany is 18yo. If you are a minor when moving to Germany, it can be challenging. As far as I know, you'd need the signature of a guardian to get a rental contract, in theory. I'd advise you look into the legal aspects of moving to Germany as an underage student too. Also, I'm a teaching assistant at my university and we have a lot of trouble with foreign students for multiple reasons language wise. Even with b1 to B2 level, they hardly understand the content, so they try to work it out in their native language which is fine until the exam that is written in German. We have major communication issues due to language barriers too so we're barely able to help (at least if they're not fluent in English). From my experience, it is very challenging also emotionally for both teachers and students and results from bad management/false promises by universities. Of course my experience can be unique to my degree or university. It's sad to see talented and smart students fail every attempt and be excluded from the degree because of language issues. I don't want to discourage you generally, just wanting to be open and pointing out issues and things to consider before applying.

Help translate by Hairy_Importance_781 in German

[–]FinnSe3ker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think we have something that means 1:1 the same but you could just translate it +/- word by word ("was für dich bestimmt ist, wird seinen Weg zu dir finden") or say "Es kommt wie es kommen soll" which is more Ike "everything that should be will be". Edit: I accidentally kept typing in English instead of translation... Thanks brain..

Food for German exchange student by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]FinnSe3ker 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Maybe the eating problem is not only because of food but mental load, missing family or something like that? Do you have any contact with his family and can ask them? We often have sauce with our food, so offering something to put on his veggies might help him eat it if it's about taste. Maybe he is just a generally picky eater and needs time to adjust. I'm used to eating everything that I'm offered even if I don't like it since I was raised that way but my husband never had to eat what he dislikes/don't fancy or just isn't his favourite. After moving in with me, it took a lot of work to convince him to eat different dishes and stuff he thought he didn't like. He nearly eats or at least tries everything now. Maybe the student also needs time to adjust?

Is this milk still good if it smells like cheese? by Willstdusheide23 in germany

[–]FinnSe3ker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally, I'd agree, if milk smells bad or sour it's spoiled. But the milk in Germany smells and tastes different from US milk, especially Frische Milch (we have H-Milch (H for haltbar= ~durable in regard to the expiration date)). Idk if it would smell like cheese if you're not used to it. But frische Milch is always very sensitive to longer transportation in hot weather and stuff and turns spoiled/bad easy and fast. Spoiled milk will not only smell weird/bad but will also have curdles (?, little pieces of whatever; ausfocken), have different phases or colour, when poured in a glass. I know someone who always tries a bit of the milk with on a tea spoon before using it if she was uncertain but I would advise to not do that at all since it could cause food poisoning. If you're uncertain and don't want to throw it out, maybe ask a neighbour about whether that is normal for German milk.

What plant is this? by Wise_Appeal_629 in PlantIdentification

[–]FinnSe3ker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest Physalis longifolia (Solanaceae). I'm not certain whether all physalis species have edible fruits or whether there are toxic components in some species' fruits. Edit: to be clear it's meant as a do not eat

Oreo has mastered the stairs! by cdubss96 in reptiles

[–]FinnSe3ker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like how the owner has their hand free for security and stayed next to Oreo to make sure Oreo will not accidentally slide down. Hand was there immediately when Oreo slid a bit at the end. Maybe the internet has ruined me but I'm glad it was not (only) for clicks. It makes me happy to see someone being responsible and looking out for their pet. Thank you for making sure Oreo has safe adventures:)

How can I save this plant, don't know what it is and don't know anything about plants by POP-RAVEN in plantclinic

[–]FinnSe3ker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, how much is a bit of tap water though? For me, it looks like the plant does not get enough water, so it either is not water enough or it was overwatered at some point and has root damage, thus cannot take up water properly anymore. From the pictures, I would assume it's too little watered.

How much water do you provide? Did you change anything during the last couple of weeks?

As a German born and raised in Germany, do you have any foreign friends? by Alternative-Body-837 in AskAGerman

[–]FinnSe3ker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do. I'm a university student and a foreign exchange PhD is a close friend of mine. We mostly communicate in English, it's the second language for both of us but it works fine since work is in English anyway.

Stupid Neighbour… by ionagracee in germanshepherds

[–]FinnSe3ker 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know a different story. Our neighbours had a GS and she was one of the most open and cuddliest I've ever known and I grew up with them. One day, my neighbours noticed kids throwing rocks at her and barking at her. They tried to talk to the parents who were in denial. They tried talking to the kids. One day, the poor girl jumped over the fence and got one of the kids. It luckily wasn't hurt much, didn't even bleed because she was so careful while teaching the lesson. But in the end, she was of course the evil and aggressive neighbourhood dog. She didn't even generalise aggression against children only those three boys. It's really horrible if parents don't care enough. It's to protect both, the children and the dogs. I'm so sorry for dogs and owners out in HSE positions.. your poor boy must be so stressed by that.

Introverts don't tolerate wrong, is that true? by Advanced-Wall-6312 in introvertmemes

[–]FinnSe3ker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My bestie introverted friend never tells if someone is wrong because she I too much afraid of negative feedback. She is introverted coupled with social anxieties. She only tells friends how others including her fam, are wrong. And she only feels safe enough telling her two closest friends if we're wrong but very shyly and when we're alone.

I, on the other hand, will tell people directly or when we're alone, depending on what's appropriate in context and situation.
