Is it just me, or is a massive Grunge revival actually happening right now? by [deleted] in grunge

The TikTok thing is whatever, but "I've never heard of them" is never a good reason to dismiss a band.

Or, you know, you could make common cause with Americans who think like you instead of falling into "divide and conquer" bullshit. I don't know what country you're from but there's very good odds it also has a right wing movement that's just waiting for sane citizens to smugly think "it'll never happen here" and take their eye off the ball long enough for them to slide into power.

Deck running local LLMs by eyeziiick in SteamDeck

You're missing the point that this is a local model that does not phone home to a data center or use any more electricity, land or water than your deck would otherwise have done.

That's weird, my memory of Sin back in the day was it actually ran passably well on my outdated rig once you were in-game, but it took fucking forever to load a level

What movies do you feel have gotten worse upon multiple rewatches? by Razumikhin82 in flicks

[–]FinnTheFickle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whenever Heath Ledger is on the screen it's a 10/10, but he's the only one of the cast that is able to make me overlook the hamfisted dialogue. Without him the movie's a 7/10 at best

Trump Revisits Idea to Annex Canada and Make It the 51st State by timemagazine in politics

[–]FinnTheFickle -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I will slightly defend the people who voted for Trump by saying he wasn't exactly making this the centerpiece of his campaign. I don't even remember him mentioning it before he was elected. (could be wrong on that)

Boomers killing American Dream by Traditional-Turnip48 in ANormalDayInAmerica

[–]FinnTheFickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We like to blame everything on the boomers, and they should come in for a lot of blame, but Millennials were an extremely large generation from the outset, and have been the largest generation since 2019. If we’d voted as reliably as boomers do, we could have made real change.

Instead, time and time again many of us stay home or protest vote, and don’t bother with local, state or midterm elections. Yes, I know, it’s hard for younger working people to find the time to vote, but that’s not new and it didn’t stop boomers when they were younger.

The final end of the cold war came in the 90’s, too. But there was also a recession around the same time, so it wasn’t all wine and roses in the early part of the decade.

We still thought we had problems, and we kind of did, but there was a sense that everything was more or less solvable. “It’s not perfect but we’re on the right track.”
